House was wonderful with several living spaces. Each bedroom had remote a/c. Perfect home base for all our activities: scuba, surfing, adventure park, etc. Outdoor pizza oven was fabulous & propane grill was super as well.

Roaming Renshaws trip to Coco Beach

The initial advertisement was slightly misleading as it gave the impression of one large house. We found out that the property actually consists of three buildings, one had a bed and bath, the second had 4 bedrooms and two baths, and the third had kitchen/dining space. This wasn't an issue for us and we thoroughly enjoyed staying at Al Garete! There is also a separate house on the property where the caretaker lives. They did not speak any English but we were able to use phone translators to bridge communication. They were very helpful and we never felt that they were intrusive in any way.

Mixed Experience - Not Worth the Price

We had high hopes for this beachfront home, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to expectations — especially considering the price. The listing photos are quite dated and don’t accurately reflect the current condition of the property. While the setting is beautiful and being right on the ocean was definitely a highlight, the house itself felt rustic, worn, and not well-maintained. The master bedroom was lovely in design, but it’s oddly located behind the kitchen building, with no view and very little natural light. When we arrived, there was an overpowering chemical smell — we suspect it was roach spray — and unfortunately, we did end up seeing some during our stay in the 4-bedroom unit. Each of the three buildings has a separate key, which quickly became a hassle. The kitchen was stocked with lots of dishes, but the appliances need attention. The fridge didn’t stay cold (butter was always soft), stove knobs were worn and unreadable, and the sliding door to the kitchen was broken. We were told someone would come fix it, but no one ever showed up. On the bright side, the patio area was beautiful and perfect for morning coffee. The best part of our stay was the ocean view and proximity to the beach — it's truly a great location. With some updates and better upkeep, this property could be fantastic. As it stands now, we wouldn’t return or recommend it at the current price point.

Wonderful Home for a Family Vacation

This property was wonderful. The location is amazing, close to everything and right on the beach. The rooms are really nice and comfortable and it has a really great outdoor area to hang out with family and friend and BBQ. We hope to come back and stay again!

Great stay right on the beach with epic sunsets

We loved our time here and the property management team were absolutely lovely. pool is smaller than pictures show - more like a wading pool but our kids still loved it. Ocean was excellent for body boards, highly recommend grabbing some if you have kids prior to your stay. Would have been nice to have a bit of a more stocked kitchen, and the fridge and freezer were not in the best condition. Freezer took 24 hours to freeze ice cubes and we had food go bad in fridge as it was sometimes warm. Other than that tho, we absolutly loved it and would come back in a heartbeat!

What we we hoping for

We wanted a beach house that was within walking distance to the shops. Success!The room lay out was perfect for the 5 adults and two kids that stayed there. With the kitchen and dining area being separated from the bedrooms folks could stay up late or get up early and not bother the others in their bedrooms.The sand and the ocean was just steps from the back gate. Perfect for the 4 year old and grandpa too!Thank you for having such a wonderful home.

Amazing spot

Lovely place right on the beach. Feels like a very Costa Rican place with beautiful outdoor lounging areas, lots of space inside, and a great location. As other reviews have mentioned, some locals will use the grass in front of the property for picnics but our experience was they were all very friendly. One guy even came back the next day to remove their garbage. We will definitely be coming back.

Family Time

The property was just as described. We had plenty of room for all the kids.(15-22). The idea of walking to the beach right in front of our house was perfect. The property manager was at available and courteous and friendly. We plan to return soon. A really nice home from home with everything you could need. The locals got to know us quickly we made runs to the grocery store not more than three blocks away. Great restaurants within walking distance next time definitely getting a golf cart, would’ve made it easier to go down to the main strip, definitely a fun vacation spot!

Fantastic

This place was beyond expectations. There are beds and rooms for just about any sized family and the kitchen and social areas have seating for large groups to gather. There are so many places on the property to relax and enjoy vacationing beachside. The beach is just outside the gate and the hosts were so accommodating. It’s far enough away that you are away from crowds of beach-goers, yet the shops, restaurants, bars and breweries downtown are only a minute drive or a 10-15 minute walk down the beach. Selfishly I’d rather not write a review hoping this place is available next time I’d like to vacation, but this property was too perfect not to share.

Not what we expected.

This property is beautiful and the onsite managers were great however, if you are expecting a private, quiet experience right on the beach, this is not what you get. This property is right on the beach just as it states which is great, but right outside of the fence that separates this property from the public beach is a great grassy area that is apparently NOT part of this property. It is the only grassy area on the beach so kids, families, etc. who are on the beach park themselves literally right outside of the fence between the house and the beach. There is no privacy on the property as people are playing games, music and having a blast basically on the property (even though it is actually right outside the fence/shrubs). The fence does have barbed wire and a pad lock to help, I suppose, keep people from coming in the gate. One of the nights we were there, there was a full on party going on just outside of the gate with loud music and it was impossible to fall asleep. If I would have known it was going to be noisy and not a private experience I would not have booked this property. By private I mean I know its a public beach so there are going to be people on the beach but the public beach starts right at the fence/shrubs that you see in the pictures. Obviously these pictures were taken when no one was on the beach. Our experience was that there were people in front of this house the entire time we were there except for early in the morning. I just wanted to let the next person know so that you know what to expect as far as noise and privacy. Other than that it is a nice rustic house with large rooms and plenty of beds. There is a lovely resort right next door so you can walk to get lunch, breakfast, dinner if you need to. The kitchen in this house is great so you many not need to go anywhere to eat. The outdoor sitting areas are huge. The property itself is nice and the communication is good. I just felt obligated to share what the atmosphere is like which might be fine for some just not what we were looking for.

A gem on the ocean.

I liked being on the water and hearing the waves crash on the beach. Property is a little dated and needs an infusion of cash to update. Enjoyed the family pictures of long ago at this property.

Amazing family compound in beach

Location, layout of house and setting made this place a great fit for a large family. Hard to beat. Right on ocean, wonderful beach. Splash pool was super nice option. More attention to detail such as dishwasher maintenance, light fixtures and trash removal would improve experience.

Great location with outside common areas

Greatly enjoyed this unique older Costa Rican beach front home.There is indeed three buildings one with four bedrooms(2 king bedrooms , 2 bunk bed rooms and two full bathrooms), one building with a bathroom plus a king bed and then the kitchen building were the bar windows have been replaced with glass windows which helps keeps the animals out. There is a caretaker that lives behind the home and they never bothered us expect to check us in. We spent our time outside in the common areas enjoying the view and only spent time inside to sleep. The home is older but kept up and very very clean. We walked into town by the path in front of the house, which took under 15 mins. Such a great location!!!! We really enjoyed ourselves.

Fantastic Coco beach house

This house is so great! We loved it!! Close enough the kids could play in the water whenever we were there and lots of shopping and restaurants nearby. Pleanty of room for our group of 9. And they were so good to communicate with us anytime we had a need. I can't wait to return someday!
