This property was everything we had hoped for, and more. The attention to detail was phenomenal, extremely clean, kitchen was well stocked, and the host communicated in a timely manner. The next time we are in Detroit, we will definitely return to this place.

AMAZING

Best place to stay in Detroit

We loved this property so much! What a perfect place to make memories with a group. We loved the many unique Motown touches and fun nostalgic juke boxes. The dancefloor was an highlight! Everything is in very good condition with comfortable beds and very nice and newly renovated bathrooms and kitchens. While there, we toured the Motown Museum down the block and found it easy to get around anywhere we wanted with short Ubers. Henry Ford hospital is very close in case of emergency, easy walk to great pizza (Michigan and Trumbull Pizza) and restaurants. Highly recommend and would definitely come back! Thanks so much for having us

Trip Thru Motown Magic

We stayed at The Motown Way House in Detroit over 4th of July weekend 2025 with our large family group, and it was absolutely perfect. There was plenty of space — lots of bedrooms, beds, and bathrooms — so everyone was comfortable the entire time. Having two kitchens and two dining areas made mealtime easy, even with a big crowd.But what really made this stay special was the vibe. The home is true to its name — full of fun, nostalgic Motown-era touches that everyone loved. We had so much fun with the jukeboxes, pinball machine, pool table, and especially the “record” dance floor where we even had a little sock hop! The house is full of character, charm, and so many cool details that made our weekend unforgettable.If you’re looking for a unique, spacious, and fun place to stay in Detroit, The Motown Way House does not disappoint!— Rita Calhoun and Family

Perfect Home for a Group

We loved staying at the Motown BNB! There was so much space and so many fun things to do. We didn't have enough time to take advantage of everything the house offered. The large dining table was perfect for our family so that could all sit down for meals together and play games at the end of the day. The basement was perfect for family time playing pool and listening to music. The property was well appointed and had everything we needed. The host was super responsive and accommodating when we had questions (and when we left items behind ) The neighborhood is only ok, but they make that clear in the check in instructions and we felt very secure and comfortable in the house. Great location for easy access to everything Detroit! Loved our visit.

The house was Amazing! We were there for a long weekend with a large group of friends and it was perfect for the 14 of us! It was clean and there was plenty of room for us to spread out or be together! Location was great! only a 10 minute drive from downtown! David was an excellent host and super prompt with communication. Highly recommended staying here!

Book Club Trip

Really fun place to stay. Gave us a nice taste of old Detroit. Owners have done a great job with the MoTown theme throughout the house, we used all of the juke boxes. Took a Uber to Tiger game and spent both evenings hanging at house. Used porches in morning and evenings. Location is very convenient for exploring Detroit. Highly recommend this place!

Lions tailgate weekend

We had a large group stay for weekend to tailgate at the lions game Sunday and enjoy Detriot and what is has to offer. This is an amazing place to stay!! Fantastic Experience

We came with a large group to celebrate a graduation and used it as an excuse for a family reunion. We could not have chosen a better place. Our host was super helpful and responsive. The house was AMAZING! The neighborhood was great and we walked to the Motown Museum just a few houses away. Great restaurants and an awesome bakery just an easy drive away. We loved it! A perfect weekend!

Motown wedding

We had an amazing time at the Motown house for my daughter’s wedding! The house has everything you need for a large group! Our favorite was the themed rooms and Jukeboxes! Thank you for making our home away from home so amazing!!! The host is very responsive and helpful! Everything was clean and comfortable! I would definitely recommend this house!!!

A Fantastic BNB

I surprised my friends and family with the Motown BNB and a Stevie Wonder impersonator for my birthday weekend in the D. The lower level was the perfect backdrop for Stevie's performance and a dance party afterwards. 11 of us enjoyed all of the amenities and the spaciousness of the house. The host David responded right away to any questions or concerns. An exceptional stay overall. Would definitely return!

Detroit Wedding

Our group consisted of 12 family members and one close friend. Our son's wedding was held on East Grand which made this location perfect. David was easily accessible and very responsive although we really didn't have any issues to speak of.

Best vacation rental I’ve ever stayed at!

EVERYTHING about this place was exceptional. It is 1/2 block from Motown Museum. We felt like we were immersed in the history of Motown - from the artwork, the jukeboxes on every floor, and the little memorabilia touches in this property. You could FEEL this history of Motown! The amenities themselves - PLENTY of everything- anything we needed - already there! The sleeping spaces were all private and comfy. Property manager was super attentive- we really didn’t need anything but when I emailed a question - I had an immediate response. Attended a wedding on the riverfront downtown - VERY SHORT UBER ride which was much less expensive the parking in that area. You will not regret booking this spacious, meticulous space!

Overall excellent experience at the MotownBNB. Arrived in mid-summer to find the spot well kept, very comfortable and cool with the AC, and calm and quiet with the Motown music playing on the TV downstairs.Had all the equipment and utensils available to facilitate a great trip. Had 14 guys get together from around the country and we all slept comfortably. Two drove in and had air mattresses and let everybody else have full beds along with the pull-out couch. Downstairs is a fun and cool environment, although the ceilings are a bit short. Thankfully the owners have the ceiling corners covered in foam so any guys that bonked their head only hit the foam. Area is okay, 4/5. Witnessed some dramatic individuals across the street at the liquor store, but all of us never felt unsafe at any point in our trip. Close proximity to excellent pizza and quick uber rides into the city for some fun times.Very appreciative of the enclosed parking behind the house and we were able to fit four cars, including a big Ford Expedition.Great communications with Dave, who reached out the night before to give all the information needed. He remained in good communications throughout the trip, and even let us know the cleaners were going to be late on our checkout day so we had a nice relaxing morning getting the place cleaned up before we headed out.Overall, highly recommend if you have a big party coming to town to stay at the Motown BNB.

Perfect house for a wedding party

14 adults and 2 infants stayed at this great , tastefully-decorated house ,and we hosted 50 more (on a come & go basis) for brunch and everyone fit happily! It's a lovely, spacious place and provided a perfect spot to make warm memories on a wedding weekend. The 1st & 2nd floors are clones of each other, with spacious kitchens, LRs & DRs -- so we had bagels and coffee downstairs and Middle Eastern food & champagne upstairs for the Sunday brunch following Saturday's wedding. Could not have worked out better! David, the host, was practically instantaneous in his communications with us, answering our questions. We went to the Motown Museum Friday (reserve in advance!), a short walk. And if you have time, take the 3/4 mile walk down West Grand to the Fisher Building which is stunning! The weather cooperated and we had a wonderful time, leaving with fond memories of Detroit and our Motown home!

Motown's Finest

The property is themed and decorated with great detail in every way. This was our 1st trip to Detroit so we didn't know what to expect. Upon arrival we were amazed at the size of the house as well as the attention to detail. The house is well suited for 2 or even 3 couples, and children if you choose. The different entries make for a private space for all. It was just the 2 of us but that just meant more rooms to enjoy and explore. I also liked the secure feeling you have in the house while at the same time enjoying the true culture of Detroit. We spent a lot of time on the 2nd level balcony just watching the activity of the area. If people watching is your thing then get ready for We will definitely be back, but with many friends next time. Thank you both Dave and Angie for creating such a wonderful place!

Description doesn't do property justice

This will be indepth - tl;dr: The vrbo is amazing, highly recommended especially for large groups, the area is safe, and the owners communicated in a timely manner and with great information. 1. The number of beds: There are 4 private rooms off of the first and second floor with a queen bed each. There are 2 more rooms with bunkbeds that are a queen+full. On the third floor is a private room with a queen bed and a loft in a large common room with a twin bed. There are many couches that can hold less picky people as well. 2. The neighborhood is safe, there is a hospital with private security as well as a police department just blocks away. There are rundown houses, but the area is being renovated. The secured parking can hold 4-5 cars, we had no problems with people parking on the street. Lyft and Uber operated in area. 3. The house is amazing. It was well cleaned, there are gas stoves on two levels, showers had good pressure and heat, the little touches like the jukeboxes, record players, and 8 track players truly made the Motown theming great instead of tacky / cheaply themed. 4. We talked a lot with owner due to being from out of town and coordinating a private wedding event here. The communication was prompt, we were made aware of any issues with the property ahead of time, and finally, this property was free from some of the frustrating micromanagement that is all too common in short term rentals these days.

This property is absolutely stunning. The Motown vibe and vintage feel was just right for our getaway. Communication with property owner was fabulous as well. We will definitely be booking again for next year!

Fabulous place to stay

This was the perfect place to stay for my group of college friends that grew up with Motown. The house is fabulous and a very short walk to the Motown Museum and short drives to all the other places in downtown Detroit that we wanted to visit. It had everything we needed - lots of space for the group, well-appointed kitchens for us to cook in and juke boxes on every level to inspire our sing-along sessions! We have gotten together for 38 years at many locations and we all agreed that this was the best house we have ever rented. Thanks so much!

It has the grit and determination of the heart of Americas manufacturing industry and also the charm and character of many European cities. I left Detroit for a decade to serve in the military until I returned home and have been here ever since. I love showing people the hidden places all over the city to make their experience and travel to my home town one of the best experiences ever. Motown is my favorite music and this house is just steps away from where Detroit's music changed the world. So amazing.
