We had a wonderful long weekend at this lake house while visiting family nearby — it was truly a peaceful retreat. The pier and boat dock were perfect for fishing and relaxing (we caught plenty of bluegill and bass!), and the lake views and sunsets were absolutely gorgeous.The house was clean, cozy, and well stocked with everything we needed. The main bedroom’s mattress topper felt like sleeping on a cloud! Jason, the host, was super friendly and a great communicator, making the whole stay easy and enjoyable.We loved exploring charming Cambridge — the locals are so welcoming, and the nearby Piggly Wiggly had everything we needed (plus morning liquor sales!). Between boating, fishing, and just sitting on the pier soaking in the views, it was the perfect getaway. Highly recommend!

Perfect lake house, for our family with 3 teens. House was great and lots of communication from owner via email and binder. We did all the lake stuff.. paddleboard, kayak, swim, fish and it was perfect. My favorite was floating in the water and reading on the dock. According to the notes and reviews, upstairs loft and small bedroom were quite warm but it was also August and very hot outside. Otherwise a comfortable retreat. We only drove through town but it looked very quaint and inviting, I'd love to come back and explore more!

There were dirty sheets and towels in the washer when we got there. Sheets and towels also in the dryer when we got there. Gazebo door outside was broken when we got there...we didn't use the area because of that. Had to be careful with the tiolet downstairs, as it would continue to run. Ladies that slept upstairs said the shower had little pressure and would fluctuate from extremely hot to cold. Nice place, but needed attention and repairs.

The house is on an amazing lake, really clear, great fishing and large but not too noisy. Amenities like the kayaks and board games were nice additions and the beds were pretty comfortable. We had some trouble upon arrival but the host did his best to make everything right which was appreciated and checked in each day after.Just a couple notes to consider when booking: the layout of the bedrooms is not ideal for two (or more) children under 4. It is also an older home so it has some wear in some places and it gets warm upstairs in the summer.Overall, if you are looking for a nice place to enjoy some lake time, I definitely recommend.

Wonderful week on the water

The Island is a great place to stay. It’s right on the water, and we enjoyed long days relaxing, swimming and being out on the water on the stand-up paddle boards and in the kayaks. We had a wonderful night a night of fishing right off the dock when the lake was calm and our boys caught some fish. The sunsets were gorgeous. The kitchen is well stocked and beds are comfortable. The loft room is quite warm as the a/c or fans don’t cool it down so our boys slept together in the second bedroom to stay cool. We enjoyed many family activities (Little Amerricka, Madison farmers market, Jefferson Speedway) and dinners at a couple super clubs in the area all 20-30 mins away. It was a great week of relaxing away and our boys loved the place.

We had a great stay. The house was cozy for 6 of us. One issue was parking. We weren’t aware that we could only have 3 cars. This may have been in the listing but could be made more clear.

Beautiful view and we had many laughs for girls week. The pictures were accurate just much nicer/newer than reality. Bottom line *could use a good scrubbing and minor repairs. Don’t let this cute little cottage get so run down that it’s too late. As stated in previous reviews this past summer…- number locks are old and not working also the keyhole needs wd40 for smoother key movement. -gazebo door is still broken and missing inside handle so we didn’t use it either. - sliding door windows have no screens so not able to open. Outside sliders could use a good scrubbing. - dining room chairs are flaking-upstairs bath shower trickled-laundry left in washer/dryerAlso-small room next to bathroom had flannel sheets on and it was so warm! Plus it had an old dirty pillow on it which should be tossed. The window wouldn’t open and we weren’t about to force it. -the fans need to be vacuumed.

Getaway

The property definitely needs some help, considering what is charged per night. The upstairs was so hot, it was unbearable. The AC did not help, so a window unit AC might be considered. The upstairs shower may not even exist, because virtually no water comes out of the shower head. The Gazebo was filthy; the pier was very rickety and in need of repair. All in all, the pictures don't match reality.

Cambrige vacation on the lake

Enjoyed time there, weather was beautiful. Views were nice and enjoyed the gazebo. Being older, the pier was not in the best condition for us. Being close to the lake was what we wanted. Enjoyed the stay.

Overall, very nice day in a beautiful Lakeside property.

I give this rental a five stars overall. The property contact was very responsive. The location so close to the lake is just perfect. Great for a girls weekend away. Only constructive feedback. Is there a couple of things that should be repaired on the property, such as a cracked sink, But nothing that overall affected the functionality of the rental for us. Neighbors were very quiet and we would definitely stay here again.

Relaxing Fishing Trip

This property is comfortable, peaceful, and updated. It has the term of an older home with a conveniences of updated interior. I went with one friend and we fished for four days off the pier. No boat. We caught fish every day and many of them keepers. I love this Vacation!

Nice getaway on a beautiful lake

The view was fantastic and the screen gazebo was perfect for morning coffee. The house had everything we needed and the beds were amazing. We rented a pontoon and had a great time tubing around the lake. We would definitely come back.

Calming Stay with a Beautiful View

My wife and I were very happy with our stay at the Lake Ripley House. It was so calming to view the lake from the main living area and with just a few steps outside to be on the lake itself. The shallow water around the pier is perfect for swimming or just simple wading in the sunshine. The house has all the amenities for a fulfilling weekend or weekday getaway. we hope to stay at the lakehouse again!

Nice lakefronthouse for late summer stay for 3 adults & 2 dogs

Enjoyed relaxing in screened gazebo and on deck and view of sunsets on the lake. Some probs with smoke detector and no propane for gas grill but owner responded quickly to replace tank so overall it was a great spot.for our 3 day vacation. Son in law even did some fishing and kayaked. He mentioned that ,if we came again, he would bring his boat as there is a launch at end of the road.

Short and sweet

We visited for a short stay for a business team meeting. It was nice to spend the morning and evening on the dock. Beds were comfortable and the home was exactly what we expected and needed. The only small issue was that the water pressure was low.

There was laundry in the washer and dryer.The toaster had no handles,had to use a spoon to push it down to make toast.The patio door was taped shut so you could not open it because there were no screens on the door.The grill was filthy and there was no brush to clean it.We had to run every fan available in the house because the 2nd floor was so hot,even with the air on.We actually left 2 days early.The showers are both very small.It states you can swim in the lake but it was full of algae so we paid to go to the local beach.The couch was uncomfortable and instead of the twin beds it states it has we had to use the couch to sleep all 8 of us,as there were only 3 beds.1 King size and 2 full.The rule book read be a respectful guest and clean the grill if you use it,and obviously it was not cleaned before we arrived.The only positive thing was the view.And we actually saw an eagle trying to catch fish.It took us at least 4-5 tries to unlock the door because 1/2 of the #s are worn off.Now mind you he gave me 5

Fall meet up with daughter

Our daughter works in Madison. This was a great place to meet her and her dog for a nice quiet weekend with my wife and son along. The reviews and descriptions are pretty accurate. I'd add that while it was too cool to swim, the shoreline has a nice sand bottom. The shore edge is boulders but summer swimming should be enjoyable. We'd definitely stay here again.

Nice house mostly just needs some TLC and deep cleaning

I reached out to Jason 2 times prior to our trip to ask some very simple questions and he never responded. He sent the check in information in a timely fashion. Both front and back locks need to be replaced they are very worn or broken. The dead bolts did work. On the surface the house looks clean however we had a 11 month old thatIs still crawling and after a few hours her hands and knees were filthy. The kitchen and bathrooms are well stocked and fresh towels were available. There were no laundry baskets for the dirty towels to go in as they instructed so we put them on the floor so they knew they were used. The dining chair faux leather is flaking all over so that is also a concern if you have an infant that crawls and still puts things in her mouth. We constantly were sweeping after we sat in the chairs so we didn’t have an issue. Upstairs was hot so we had all the fans up there to cool it down at night for sleeping. The view was beautiful and we would have loved to sit in the wood structure to enjoy the view but due to it having a torn screen , the screens that we’re intact were not very clean so you could not see out of them and it being filthy from never being cleaned and full of dead bugs we did not sit in it. We told Jason about the torn screen and he said he would fix it but that did not happen. Everything inside and outside is just kind of tired and well worn and in need of some deep cleaning, fixing, replacing or TLC. Just disappointing

Nice enough, but...

The house was nice enough, location was beautiful. Our stay was marred, however, by the numerous rules, caveats, warnings, etc. that were found almost everywhere in the house. Nearly every table, window and bed had some type of sign indicating how it should be used/ treated. While anyone would want their house treated with respect, the owner went way overboard. If you are that paranoid, don't rent your house out. We were also asked to clean the house, vacuum, put out the trash, and put linens in the laundry room, yet we had already paid a hefty cleaning fee which you would assume covers all the above. And finally, and most disturbingly, it was obvious that someone else had been in the house during the daytime when we are out. The heat had been lowered and the bedroom door had been propped open with a trash can. We were upset at the thought that someone else had access to our belongings, especially the electronic devices. Not cool. Would not rent here again.
