Shangri-la: hermosa cabaña frente al lago en el lago privado

No podías acercarte mucho más al agua que en este hermoso campamento. Situado en Crawford Pond en Union ME, este campamento es ideal para unas vacaciones en el lago Maine.

¿Por qué? Tantas razones ...

Primero, el lago es maravilloso. Crawford Pond no tiene acceso público, lo que significa que es muy tranquilo y no está contaminado. Hay muy poco tráfico de botes, incluso en pleno verano, y el agua es encantadora para nadar. También hay mucha vida salvaje, con bribones como alimento básico, pero también avistamientos comunes de águilas calvas, martines pescadores y otras aves, sin mencionar el bajo que acecha en las cañas. A diferencia de muchos de los lagos cercanos, Crawford tiene islas y ríos para explorar (con la isla más grande como tierra pública en la que puedes caminar, acampar y hacer un picnic). El campamento está orientado hacia el este, por lo que recibe el sol por la mañana, con hermosas puestas de sol visibles desde el muelle. Ofrecemos una canoa (con chalecos salvavidas, etc.), un muelle y una balsa de natación con asientos para relajarse y disfrutar del lago.

En segundo lugar, el campamento es bastante especial. Es uno de los primeros campamentos en el lago, que data de alrededor de 1900. Ha sido remodelado recientemente y tiene todas las comodidades modernas (wifi, aire acondicionado, lavadora / secadora, cocina moderna). Lo que lo hace inusual es que está tan cerca del agua. La sala de estar es grande y está rodeada de ventanas, y cuando te sientas allí se siente como si realmente estuvieras en la cima del lago. En varios momentos del día, el sol se refleja en el lago haciendo hermosas ondas en el techo.

El comedor / sala de estar de planta abierta tiene un sofá, TV y espacio para 4-6 para comer cómodamente. El campamento tiene capacidad para 4 personas con un dormitorio principal (cama queen) y dos camas individuales en la habitación de atrás. Hay un baño con ducha y lavadora / secadora apiladas. Afuera hay una parrilla, un porche con asientos al aire libre y una fogata.

Si te cansas del lago, hay muchas cosas que hacer y ver cerca. Desde la microcervecería en el camino hasta los cruceros de windjammer en el mar desde Camden, o simplemente explorando las ciudades cercanas de Belfast y Rockland.

Durante años, este campamento se ha llamado Shangri-la, creemos que está bien nombrado: ¡es un paraíso en la tierra!

Loved it here! Directions were great, super clean, and fully stocked. Highly recommend using the fire pit in the evening. The lake is so quiet and peaceful. Matt was very responsive when we called with a question. Would stay again!

Fabulous stay! Hope to come back someday in the summer to fully enjoy the lake. The stairs to the bedrooms and bath were steep for my older self and travel partners, but certainly manageable. Comfortable accommodations all around. 5 stars!

This cabin and the location are phenomenal. The cabin is very well appointed and extremely comfortable. Crawford pond is beautiful. The fire pit is wonderful. Truly a fabulous place to stay.

I want to be fair. This is a nicely refurbished old cottage. If you are young adults with 2 kids or less, you would enjoy the lakefront view & privacy as we did. But my wife and I are in our seventies and would not recommend the cottage for people in our age group. Both bedrooms are very small and on the second floor. Access is only by an extremely steep, narrow and not-to code stairway. We had to carry our two dogs up and down because of it. I found the beds to be below grade in comfort. The bathroom is an efficient use of space but very cramped with a small shower & washer/dryer in there. There were also no comfortable chairs in the cottage. The furniture is below avg and should be upgraded. The kitchen was nicely appointed with nice utensils & appliances. The cottage was very neat and clean. The driveway access is also extremely steep and gravel. You should have 4 wheel drive to exit. The parking area is higher than the cottage entrance with numerous, what realtors call "trip hazards" like tree roots and protruding rocks making loading and unloading your car a challenge. There are no railings or walkways anywhere. Again, not a problem if you are young and have no fear of tripping or falling. I can see why people from that age group would enjoy their stay here. Great location perfect for paddling, swimming, and relaxing. Clearly a lot of care and attention went into renovating this historic cabin to modern standards. Nice furnishings and well equipped kitchen. Close to local brewpub and farmstand. Highly recommended!

Beautiful, quiet spot on Crawford Pond. Clean, comfy cabin. Excellent kitchen. Nice to have bathroom on second floor with bedrooms; stairs were a little steep for our 13-year old dog. Perfect temp in September; no need for heat or AC. Enjoyed the loons, osprey, barred owls, kingfishers.

Absolutely Wonderful

This home was very clean and very comfortable. The area is beautiful and the loons were spectacular. Location is close to so many areas to explore, near a good grocery store, and many good restaurants. The quiet, relaxing atmosphere of this property made our stay extra special.

Peaceful retreat

We found Shangri-la to be the perfect lake getaway cottage. Despite being over 100 years old, the cottage is in excellent condition. It’s clearly been lovingly renovated. We had 2 very hot days there, and the window ACs came in handy then. The kitchen was a pleasure to use, and the bed was very comfortable (we only used 1 of the bedrooms). The lake is peaceful and the supplied canoe allowed us to explore its nooks and crannies. Less than 10 minutes away were 2 good restaurants, and 20 minutes away or so was everything Rockland and Camden had to offer. Really a great Maine lake vacation spot.

Another fabulous stay at Shangri La

This was our 2nd year staying at Shangri La in the fall. I timed our stay with the full moon and we were rewarded with spectacular front row seats to the moonrise over the pond. Stunning! As our 2nd visit, it felt like returning home. Everything was perfect just as last year. Matt is a super responsive communicator and host. The home is simply yet tastefully decorated offering a zen-like atmosphere. It is spotless, well stocked with every convenience you need and a setting that holds such a powerful relaxing energy. The kitchen is a full scale gourmet kitchen with a gas stove, full fridge, country sink and everything you need to prepare meals. The bedroom and bed are heavenly. While they have a TV with cable and streaming services, we literally just stared at the water, ducks, eagle and cormorant while we were there. The area has numerous hiking options, a few dining spots and is less than 30 minutes to the coast and Camden, Rockport, Belfast, etc.There’s a canoe, dock, outdoor seating, fire pit and the road is great for walking your dog. The only caveats are the steep interior stairs (If you have knee issues or young ones it may be a concern.) and the fact that the water is not potable so you need to bring your own. (Matt does supply a starter 2.5 gal water.) The driveway is steep but not an issue for our Subaru. The setting, great host, beautiful interior and quiet location far outweigh the caveats. We highly recommend and look forward to returning!

Peaceful

Husband, pup and I had a wonderful stay at this retreat. We cruised on the “pond “ in our Jon-Boat and explored the nooks and crannies of Crawford. The “camp” is exceptionally clean and has everything you need to enjoy the amenities. Shangri-La is about 20 minutes from the Maine coast where you will find fabulous restaurants (Franny’s in Camden) and cute boutiques (The Little Buoy-Coastal Gifts in Rockland). Camden Harbor Cruises is another must do! We truly enjoyed our stay!

Amazingly Perfect

We truly loved staying at Shangri-la! This was the perfect home base for everything we planned on seeing in Maine. It was so relaxing to come "home" each evening and sit by the fire or on the porch enjoying the lake. We loved listening to the loons, and I was blessed to see a bald eagle one morning at the island across from us. The canoe was a huge plus as well! The lake is beautiful to swim in. The kitchen is perfect and stocked with any dishes you may need, and there is plenty of living space to visit or play cards/games. If I had been alone I would have definitely needed a 4 wheel drive vehicle, but my husband was able to pull the Toyota Camry we rented up the driveway with no problem. We hope to be back, and wouldn't want to stay anywhere else!

Heaven on earth

Shangri-La is an apt name for this lovely cabin and setting. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cabin is lovely and possibly the most well appointed place we've ever stayed. The view and surroundings are spectacular.It is close to many activities, restaurants, stc., just a short drive to all.

Very Nice

This is a very nice home on a beautiful pond. The host is accommodating, pleasant and helpful. This rental is very clean and I would recommend staying here. There is just a couple of things that would have helped me prepare for my stay if I know ahead of time or were in the listing. The home is on a small downward hill and you must step off the dock to get into the water. There isn't a clear access point. The stairs to the bedrooms are steep and may be an issue for anyone with walking or balance issues. The water is lake water but honestly was not an issue for us at all, just something to know before you rent. We had a great week and the fire pit was an evening ritual. Thank you for letting us rent your home.

A perfect get-away

What a beautiful location - very quiet and peaceful. The camp was modern, filled with light, immaculately clean and handsomely decorated. The kitchen was efficent and had everything you could possibly need. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. A five-star week we will not forget!

Just exceptional

I enjoyed every moment of my stay here. The cabin and setting are truly special and just what I needed in terms of a tranquil retreat. I loved listening to the loons at night and sitting out by the firepit or on the porch in the early morning and again at night. I hope to return again next year.
