I reserved this cottage in January 2025, for a late April weekend stay, and paid the deposit. The communication was not handled through VRBO, but instead through Evolve, and they were efficient, until the day of the stay. I informed the host that we would be arriving late and we were given the code an hour before check-in. When we arrived at midnight, we started entering the code on the key pad and someone opened the door from inside, and out rushed a dog…the other dog and cat stayed inside. The unit was already occupied and was, clearly, for some time. The occupant told us we were the 3rd couple to try and get into the unit. So there we were, sitting in a not-so-great neighborhood at 12:30am, calling the host, who did not respond. We called Evolve and they acknowledged our issue but could not offer us any solution until they contacted the host. They were also unable to reach the host so we had to find a hotel for the night and try to settle it in the morning. We woke to an email from Evolve saying that the host had cancelled our stay. We never heard a peep from the host, she never responded to my call or email, no acknowledgement or apology for what I will gently call her “oversight.” The lag in communication between the host and VRBO was hilarious; VRBO continued to ask how our stay was going, two days after the stay had been cancelled.I will give this “stay” one star simply because Evolve was available and efficient. The host, however, absolutely not.
