Scandia Forest Lodge - Near State Parks, Stillwater, and Taylors Falls

Our cozy home sits on 5 forested acres in Scandia, Minnesota (15 miles north of Stillwater and 15 miles south of Taylors Falls) offering a peaceful escape with lots of outdoor space. The front deck is spacious with seating for 12. Enjoy your morning coffee on the screened-in porch, surrounded by perennial gardens. A large fire pit across the driveway includes chairs for 10, and additional chairs may be moved from the deck.

Our home is architect-designed with lots of cozy nooks in the spirit of the Not So Big House book by Sarah Susanka. The main level has a large kitchen with gas stove, two dining tables, a kitchen counter that seats 5, and a cozy family room with a wood-burning fireplace. The basement is designed in an Old World European/Scandinavian theme and has a pool table, wet bar, game table, big-screen TV and a gas fireplace styled like a wood-burning stove.

Scandia is a great place for biking, hiking, fishing, kayaking, and paddleboarding. We are 5 minutes from William O'Brien State Park on the St Croix River and 15 minutes from Interstate Park in Taylors Falls. Several lovely wineries are within a 1-20 minute drive, including the beautiful Rustic Roots Winery in Scandia. Our village is also home to a charming Swedish settlers' museum called Gammelgarden, and we highly recommend a tour of the museum and a visit to their gift shop. Our local farmers market is Wednesday afternoon/evening. We love to get ice cream in charming Marine on St Croix, 5 minutes south of us, and it's a 15-minute drive to Stillwater with its charming shops and amazing restaurants.

ADDITIONAL RENTAL AVAILABLE: Two vacation rentals are located on our forested 5-acre property with a shared driveway. Each feels quite private and is separated by forest from the other. Each rental has its own fire pit and yard area. You can view the second rental space -- called Björnskog Stuga -- on VRBO at www.vrbo.com/4165870.

PLEASE NOTE: Although our pets will not be here during your stay, guests with allergies should be aware that we have a cat and a dog.

We had the pleasure of staying in this beautiful home for a friend's getaway. Susan provided plenty of wonderful recommendations, including the must-go-to Slattengren Farms. The home was spacious, clean and comfortable and perfect for spending time together as a group of breaking off for some quiet time. I only wish the weather had been more cooperative so we could have used the fire pit and porch to their full extent. Would love to book again!

Girl Cousins Getaway

We had a group of 10 women and really enjoyed how comfortable and inviting the home is. It was easy to relax anywhere in the house, as well as have all of us sit around the table to play games. We were a short drive away from lots of things to do, and also took walks down the road. Great place; would highly recommend.

Lovely forest hideaway

Beautiful home - well furnished and equipped, we weren’t in need of anything. Spacious and a lot of seating areas. And close to amenities in surrounding towns. Susan was very gracious and friendly. Very good stay!

Beautiful home in a lovely location

Six friends who have been doing "girls" trips for 25 years enjoyed this lovely home. One of the group remarked that the pictures don't do the house justice - it is even lovelier than the pictures, and one of our best rentals! Every room was well stocked with anything you need - shampoo, lotion, soap, tissues, coffee, tea, etc. Susan was very easy to communicate with and responded quickly to any questions, along with offering restaurant suggestions, etc. We really enjoyed the Gammelgarden Museum in Scandia, and the Rustic Roots winery views are beautiful! A quiet setting in the woods, but still close to Stillwater, Osceola and other towns for activities. We would definitely recommend this location!!

wonderful house!

Our family was in town for a wedding, and we stayed at this property. It was just perfect for us. We were able to host brunches for extended family with plenty of room, and we could spread out when we needed some down time. I highly recommend!

The house is beautiful, well decorated but still able to function for a family. It had all of the necessary items we needed for meals and lots of options for sleeping. Was in the country but they provided games, movies and many entertainment items to keep everyone occupied

Amazing Home

The home, location and communication were spectacular. Our stay, for an extended weekend, included hiking and sites in the area. As our home base, we couldn't have been more satisfied. Plenty of space, georgeous interior and property, and all of the amenities. We would highly recommend.

The house was beautiful, welcoming and comfortable.

The house and surrounding area was beautiful and secluded. I would love to stay there in the fall when you could enjoy the outdoors a bit more. Everything you would need was available! Loved the complimentary bottle of wine from the nearby winery. Only recommendation - state that there are cats/dogs where it is easily seen. This was my first time using a VRBO and didn’t dig dip to see that. So partly my fault! We would most definitely stay here again! Strongly recommend it!

Amazing Getaway

Such an Amazing Find

We could not have asked for a better place to spend the weekend. The house is gorgeous, the property is great and we spent hours in the morning drinking coffee on the screened in patio. Sue was great with communication and we got a lot of great recommendations from her. We highly suggest going to Rustic Roots winery! Thank you for the hospitality!
