Saltbox by the Bay is a charming, tiny home in Georgian Bay. This original vintage cabin has been lovingly restored and updated with coastal vibes and modern conveniences. The small but spacious cottage makes the most of 600 sq. ft. with simple luxuries and comfort in mind. Play a curated selection of records and boardgames or read your favourite book by the gas fire. Cook gourmet meals in the chef-style kitchen. Pamper yourself in the spa-like shower. Nap away in one of the cozy queen beds.
Whether on holiday, staying as your writer's retreat or working remotely, high-speed internet will keep you connected, while the surroundings keep you entertained & disconnected, as you need.
The cabin is located in a mixed neighbourhood of cottages & residential homes. Our tiny home is on a cul-de-sac of a short country road, across from a private, neighbourhood park on the bay.
Indoors: • Nature views of the marsh & bay • Open-concept kitchen, living, dining space surrounded by windows towards the bay • Indoor gas fireplace (accessible fall to spring) • Cook's kitchen incl. gas stove, dishwasher, toaster, microwave, espresso machine & French coffee press • Cozy bedroom with queen-sized bed • The sleeping loft is accessed by a ladder, to the top of the cabin. The space is maximized for comfort with a second, queen-sized bed. • Newly renovated bathroom with extra large, walk-in shower • Mudroom with room for storage, luggage, skis and/or snowboards • Fresh linens and towels supplied. Bring your own beach towels. • Wifi is strong and as fast as Toronto speeds. • Widescreen TV with YouTube and limited channels. Watch dvd's or Chromecast from your personal accounts. • Audio-Technica record player with a curated collection of classic albums • An Amazon Echo (Alexa) can operate many of the switches, if you want to remain hands-free or not get up off the comfy couch
Outdoors: • Oversized deck with bbq, picnic table & bayview seating • The picnic table doubles as an outdoor, gas fire table. Available year round, weather permitting. • Oversized lawn, perfect for a game of horseshoes • Exploring favourites: snowshoes (in winter) & bikes (the rest of the year) available for guests • Beautiful sunsets. And the marsh is the perfect habitat for bird watching. • Across the road is a private-access park by the bay, with picnic tables, a covered gazebo & kids' playground for neighbours & guests. • The storage bunkie keeps our bikes accessible & dry indoors plus has additional space available for guest bikes.
Tay Shore Trail • On the next block is an access point to the Tay Shore Trail: a 18.5 km paved pedestrian road along the bay. Treed canopies, waterfront views & beaches are ideal for a stroll, bike ride, rollerblade or lake swim. • Accessible year-round, bring your bicycles/cross-country skis or borrow one of our bikes/snowshoes for an excursion (note that the trail is not maintained in winter). • Bike + swim at Waubaushene Beaches with lookout point • Bike to Victoria Harbour, to local Mackenzie Beach and/or lunch by the marina and beyond. • For more extensive rides, the Tay Shore Trail connects with the Simcoe Loop. • Guests are welcome to bring your own or borrow one of our 4 adult-sized bikes (available May to October). However, usage is at the guests' risks as we maintain them, as possible.
Nearby Drives: • Quayle's Brewery / Lunch, tours, events, live music & Christmas Market • Vetta Nordic Spa is a guest favourite • Queen's Quay British Pub / waterfront & marina views (+local MacKenzie Beach & playground nearby - one our favourite bike ride trips) • Little Lake Park / Beach, volleyball, tennis, playground, picnic tables & outdoor concerts • Balm Beach / White sands on Georgian Bay • Wye Marsh Wildlife Centre / Hike, canoe & snowshoe • Highview Farms & Equestrian Centre / Horseback Riding • Awenda Provincial Park / Hike, beaches, canoe & snowshoe • Six Mile Lake Provincial Park / Hike, fish, canoe & 3 sand beaches • Swift Canoe, Kayak & SUP Rentals • Horseshoe Valley / Ski, snowboard, 4-season activities, restaurants • Mount St. Louis Moonstone / Ski or Snowboard* *Ask us about Mount St. Louis Moonstone, Ski & Snowboard discounts.
Additional Notes: • Across the road, the water entry at the bay is thick with silt & reeds, so not accessible for swimming but there are local beaches nearby. • The closest beach is a 7 min drive (or 8 min bike ride) to the Waubaushene Beaches, for views at the look-out point or a summer swim. • Being across the bay, water may pool after heavy rainfalls & in the wet seasons (spring/fall). The deck stays dry but we recommend bringing rubber boots if planning to enjoy the yard & park during those times. • We have a no pet policy. We appreciate that there are many great pets but we don't make exceptions. Thank you for understanding. • Please note House Rules prior to booking.
