Welcome to our gorgeous Whananaki bach — a relaxed coastal cottage with spectacular sea and estuary views, surrounded by the peaceful rural charm of Whananaki. Sleeps 6 comfortably.

Set in an elevated position, on two acres of land, the bach looks out across the ocean, coastline, rolling green hills and the Whananaki estuary. Sea views stretch across the main living area, kitchen, deck and two of the bedrooms, while the third bedroom and back garden look over the estuary. Add in the neighbouring farmland - you’ll often spot cows grazing next door - and the outlook is that rare mix of coastal, rural and genuinely away-from-it-all.

The beach and estuary are both an easy walk away, perfect for a swim or a beach day.

This is a classic Kiwi bach rather than a luxury home — simple, comfortable and lived-in, with original touches like cork flooring, but well set up for an easy holiday. The open-plan living, kitchen and deck make an easy space to gather, cook and unwind, and the kitchen has everything you need for holiday cooking, including a dishwasher, induction hob and coffee machine.

Outside there’s a gas BBQ, a large lawn for games, a covered deck for reading or an evening drink, beanbags for lazing in the sunshine and a stash of board games, books and puzzles for slower days. There’s wifi throughout, heaters in the living room and each bedroom for winter, and fans in each bedroom for summer.
There’s heaps of off-street parking on the property, with plenty of room for a boat and trailer.

It’s the perfect spot for swimming, kayaking, walking, exploring the estuary, or simply watching the light change over the water.

Where you’ll sleep
There are three main bedrooms each with a queen or double bed — two with sea views, one overlooking the estuary so that sleeps 6. There is also a fourth, tiny room with a double bed against the wall. We haven’t included it and said 6 people only as it’s tiny, but it’s a great option for a teenager or child who’d like their own space.

Guest access
Guests are welcome to use the 2 kayaks, garden games, and all the board games and puzzles during their stay. Other privately stored owner equipment is locked in the shed and not included.

Pets
Well-behaved, house-trained dogs are welcome on request — please let us know about your dog before booking.

The area
Whananaki is one of Northland’s special coastal spots, with beautiful beaches, estuary walks, swimming, kayaking and scenic spots to explore nearby. Whananaki has a friendly general store just 2km away (a 4-minute drive or 20-minute walk) offering groceries, fresh produce, coffee and takeaway food. Whangārei is about 45 minutes away for supermarkets, restaurants, cafés and other amenities, while the Bay of Islands is an hour away — an easy day trip.

It’s well known for its fishing, with snapper, kingfish and kahawai on offer — there’s a boat ramp just 500m away, or you can fish from the footbridge or try your hand at surfcasting.

Whananaki is also an excellent surfing destination that caters to all skill levels, highly regarded for its diverse breaks, stunning white sand and uncrowded lineups. Surfers are well catered for at Mouresees Bay, just five minutes’ drive away.
There’s also a stunning coastal biking trail from the general store to Sandy Bay — about 25km return.

A wonderful base for a peaceful beach escape, a family holiday, or a quiet weekend away surrounded by sea, sky, farmland and nature.
