Apalachicola is a great little town that still has the small and historic fishing and lumber vibe, without the touristy crowds of our hometown of St Augustine. Lots to see and do. You can actually walk five or six blocks to town. While so many Vrbo properties say "walk to town," that means a mile or so. Ironically, the owners are from Oxford, MS, where we had rented such a walk-to-town place, and found it not-so-walk friendly. We were surprised at the lack of number and quality of restaurants. Three meals at The Owl was the most consistent, though. Despite a water quality problem making the water smell like sulphur (apparently a lingering problem since Helene hurricane damage to infrastructure and no plans to fix it until July), host Lauren delivered so much bottled water that we never needed to ask. Great communication with host. The cottage itself was "darling" to use my wife's term. Which is a high honor. If you are pet owners, the back door opens up to an alley along the historic cemetery. BTW, do check out the cemetery. All in all, we consider this one of our best Vrbo experiences.
