Elegant Guest House on Cuchara River

This two bedroom guest house has a Beautiful Jack and Jill bathroom between the two bedrooms. This is a luxury property with high end appointments thru-out. It has a kitchen in an Amour that has everything you need and can be closed off when you are not using it. There is a wooden fold out hunt table can be used for dining or a desk. There is also a lovely outside covered deck with elegant table and chairs for dining, with a great view of the Gap Wall and west peak off to the side.
This was Hass Cartwright’s , from Bonanza ranch house for
Many years. It has been completely redone and updated. There is river access and a parking place right outside.
It works for 2 to 4 people.

Beautiful, Serene, Luxury

Wonderful stay in a comfortable and beautiful mountain cottage. Between Cuchara and LaVida, the location cannot be beat. We look forward to staying here again on the spring!

Beautiful views and clean guest house!

We very much enjoyed our stay. Close to La Veta and Cuchara. The kitchenette had everything we needed. Very clean and thoughtfully appointed with plenty of towels, bathroom and kitchen items. Very comfortable bed!

Peaceful and Quite

This is our second stay at this beautiful and amazing cabin, nestled at the foot of a mountain with a little stream in the backyard. If you are looking to get away and unwind and refresh from the world, you need to make your reservations here at the gap house. We will be back!!

First week of October

Beutiful location beside the Cuchara River (creek). Got to see wild turkey every day and a bobcat another morning. Would like to return next year for Oktoberfest (2nd week in October) for the activities in La Veta.

More beautiful than the photos

Gorgeous cabin in n a great location. My husband I stayed here for four nights. We visit Cuchara every summer and usually stay with family, so this was a change and we really enjoyed it. The cabin is a great size for two people and would also work for four. One thing to note is that you have to go through the bathroom to get to the back bedroom, but the bathroom is big and there's plenty of room. Scenery from the porch and windows is truly lovely and having the windows open brings in the breeze and the soothing sounds of the river, which is just outside.. Very relaxing.

A slice of Heaven !

This amazing Cabin fit my husband and I perfectly! We came to Cuchara to celebrate our 25th anniversary and had no idea just how beautiful this area was. We knew before coming the size of the kitchen and all we had available to us. We cook out a lot and so we had the accommodations we needed. The bed was cozy and comfortable. We left the windows up at night to hear the river flowing. And the sun coming up over the mountain in the morning was breathtaking. We also had a full moon while we were there and that was the icing on the cake. This cabin is close to so much. We were able to hit some nearby lakes and towns easily. We saw tons of wildlife in the area, 3 bear sightings, 2 bald eagles right across from the cabin, elk, Mule deer and a red Fox. We have stayed in many of cabins and this one was my favorite so far. We will be back next summer. Everyone was easy to work with Karey was so easy and so kind. Made the experience that much nicer. This place really is a slice of heaven for us. Seeing God’s amazing beauty so close was such a great experience for us. I feel so refreshed and renewed! Until next time Gap House !

Tranquil Setting

Cute and cozy “cabin” is attached to the main house as a separate wing but is quiet and private with a lovely stream-side view. Our family of 3 stayed here for a long weekend. We enjoyed our stay!

Fall in the southern Colorado mountains

Weekend Retreat

We travel to Colorado nearly every summer, and we like to break up the trip by finding a place in Cuchara Valley for a few days. It’s the perfect stopping place coming from Texas, and this experience was no different. My family of four fit nicely in the two bedrooms (kids 6/9 yo) - we were close to town, and not too far from Blue/Bear Lakes. We ate out one night, and warmed up food that we brought another night. The kitchen armoire is a bit tight, but easy enough to work with if you understand the set up beforehand. The best way to get down to the river was a stone path out the back door which travels next to the guesthouse and ultimately across their deck. The guest house was occupied during our stay, so we met the occupants and they were happy to let us use the pathway and their deck to get to the river. The owner communicated well both before and during our trip, and we Would definitely recommend this property.

Clean Place

Clean. Neat. Roomy. Comfortable beds. Be aware that this property is simply 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom, albeit nice ones. It probably says that in the description but I was expecting a living area too. There is no indoor living area, but there is a table and chairs on the front porch. There are closets in each bedroom. The wardrobe in the entry bedroom contains the "kitchen." There is a wine cooler in the closet as well. Ceiling fans work but the one in the second bedroom wobbles and makes a loud noise if it's not on low. This apartment is connected to the garage for the main house. Immediately behind, between this place and the river, is another small cottage. We didn't find much river frontage but we didn't ask and maybe there is more than what we discovered. We had to leave a couple of days before our reservation ended so there wasn't a lot of time to explore.

Relaxing stay and base camp in Cuchara valley!

What am amazing spot to relax after a couple of busy days! This property was immaculate, spotless, and perfectly appointed for my stay. Sitting on the porch listening to the river was a perfect end to each day! I will definitely be back! Looking forward to my next trip back. 5 stars all the way!

Great stay!

My husband and I stayed here over a weekend with our 1 year old, and it was perfect for us. It was extremely clean with all conveniences provided, the host was communicative when we reached out, and the grounds were beautiful. Loved those porch views and the sound of the river! Convenient location between Cuchara and La Veta, depending which town you want to visit.

Lovely guest house with an outstanding mountain view

Close to LaVeta and Cuchara, good location Hwy 12. Great front porch to sit and have a meal. The moon rise over the Spanish Peak was a plus. Near sunset we watched elk grazing on the mountain side. Comfortable place for 2 folks.

Beautiful Surroundings

This elegantly decorated 2 bedroom is in a wonderful setting - close to Cuchara and all of its lovely scenery and fishing lakes. It is just two bedrooms, one has twin beds and the kitchenette, the other a full sized bed and the TV. I think it best for two travelers or a family for sharing the Jack and Jill bathroom. It is a short walk to the river - peaceful setting. We spent most mornings and evenings on the front porch for the view and cool weather!
