Peaceful jungle retreat
We recently traveled to Punta Gorda with our two young children and had an wonderful stay at the Hickatee. The off-grid property is not far from town but feels like a peaceful retreat in the jungle. We loved hearing howler monkeys! The grounds include a jungle path where you can explore and look for wildlife, a small splashing pool the kids loved, and a relaxing sitting area nearby. You also have access to the main house where you can cook for yourself, make coffee, use the fridge, relax and play games. The cottages were charming and comfortable. There’s no air conditioning, but we didn’t miss it. The only small issue we had was regulating the water temperature in the shower.Our host, Allison, was fantastic. Before we arrived, she helped us arrange all of our tours, which made planning so much easier. Once we arrived, she kept us updated about the tours. Her communication made everything feel effortless. One of the highlights of staying at the Hickatee is access to the butterfly farm. It’s a fascinating experience where you can learn about the life cycle and business of butterflies. We also opted for the meal plan and are so glad we did. Allison is a wonderful cook and went above and beyond to accommodate our family’s food allergies and intolerances. I never had to worry about reactions, and honestly, I haven’t eaten that well in a long time.Hickatee felt like a home away from home. Highly recommend!
