Great weekend!

This house has a lot of unique charm! Everything was super easy and we enjoyed our stay. Just check yourself for ticks as the area has a ton. Besides that we love Etlan, Ducards, White Oak Canyon trail. Cannot wait to return to the area!

Interesting hunting lodge property. Unique decor. Outside was bit rusted and old, and the lighting and fans were left to be desired, but the foozball table and the entertainment downstairs were great. Air condition was blasting freezing cold air though we tried to adjust it

Great Getaway

Overall the place was just as described and the stay was amazing. It had everything we needed, just I think some improvements would be better internet as 50 is not good for more then 2 people at a time. Also only giving 1 paper towel for a house that is supposed to house 14 people does not seem proportionally and I think certain things should be cleared up before hand on that as the nearest grocery stores isn't too far, but still a bit out of the way is all.

Amazing cabin, great for large groups

This cabin was perfect for our group of 17 people. The views are stunning and the cabin has plenty of natural light. We enjoyed are stay and hope to visit again.

Lovely home in the heart of the Shenandoah

We had a great time at this beautiful home! We came with a group of friends and the set-up was just perfect - plenty of room for all. The home was clean, the owners were very easy to communicate with, and we had a comfortable stay. The fire pit area outside is not ideal for large groups, but we made it work so we could still enjoy some S'mores!

Absolutely wonderful weekend

Had a wonderful time. The house is very eclectic, rustic, and visually applealing. Love the set up and all the bathrooms. There was evidence of it not being as clean as it could have been, and the stove top did not work well. But, overall, it was a great weekend and beautiful place to stay in the mountains.

50th Wedding Anniversary

We celebrated our 50th weddng anniversary with our family. Ages from 4 to 92. We enjoyed the view (would be better without the 2 trees!), the fishing, the woods. We found a swimming hold in the Shenandoah Nat'l Park not far from the house and we all enjoyed it.

Beautiful area, wonderful property!

The house was awesome for our big family get-together. Lots of bedrooms and big open areas for us to gather. The cabin is well equipped and full of charm. Some wonderful hikes as close as a 10 minute drive away, and the property itself is gorgeous, watching the sunrise out of the huge picture windows each morning was an unexpected bonus! Small note to future guests: the area is isolated so cell coverage was iffy to non-existent for most of us. Wifi is pretty slow, but strong enough to text and stream music at least. Overall a wonderful stay!

Amazing place!

Stayed here with a group of friends earlier this summer to celebrate a birthday. Everyone raved about how beautiful it was and continues to do so a month later. The house itself is wonderful - large and beautifully appointed with plenty of beds and bathrooms - and the land surrounding it is lush and verdant and peaceful. We spent our days biking and running and hiking and then cooked amazing dinners in the enormous kitchen. Best of all was the profusion of fireflies that appeared once the sun had set. I haven't seen that many fireflies since I was a kid. It was a wonderful weekend.

Virginia Mountain Getaway

Home was clean. Plenty of space for everyone. Property manager was attentive. Pond was a good hike from the house but provided refuge and the fish were biting. Not much very close by but we found a zip line experience, wineries and an escape room. I swam in the Shenandoah River and our 2 year old swam in the stream at the end of the road. We tried the property loop trail but never found the stream. We missed the outdoor shower. House was set up well for our family group of 12.

Shennandoah Foothills

Sixteen family members ranging from age two to sixty-eight all enjoyed this home. It's large with three levels (not handicapped accessible except the bottom floor) and a lovely cabin style inside. It has been well loved by the owner's family and has many travel mementos and trophies inside. This gives it a lot of character. It's so large, it's hard to keep everything spotless and dust free, but the bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen were all clean. The A/C went out while we were there, but the manager had someone come out and it was repaired as soon as possible. It's near the National Park, and we enjoyed several other activities suggested by the host. There aren't a lot of restaurants in the immediate vicinity, but the nearby wineries and brewhouse offer simple meals, and larger restaurants are only about fifteen to twenty minutes away.

beautiful spacious private house

the house design and setting was perfect for our family group of 13. age range 8 to 80 celebrating 2 family birthdays. there were enough bedrooms and bathrooms for all of us.Plenty of hot water. The firepit was great. the view was outstanding as was the location. So suggestions for me to give it 5 stars. 1) shampoo and conditioner in bathrooms 2) toilet paper for all bathrooms 3) paper towels in kitchen. 4) kitchen towels 5) put pots with matching lids in same cabinets 6)the decks needed cleaning possibly some new cushions. these are not big ticket items, but I think they make a big difference.

Fun family vacation!

The property is beautiful. The house is like stepping into a museum with very unique decor. The kids loved the game room and fishing in the pond. The kitchen is well stocked with everything for cooking meals. My only complaint was a lack of linens for the bunkroom and flat pillows in almost every bedroom. I called the host but only heard a busy signal. You cannot call anyone on your cells from the house, no service, had to use the house phone to try to reach her. Fortunately for us a daughter was arriving the next day and brought us linens. We were a family of 16 but 2 of the kids slept on air mattresses which we brought because the bunkroom had 4 boys aged 12 to 15 who could not share double mattresses with their girl cousins. There is a futon downstairs which came in handy. Firepit was perfect for s'mores and the air conditioning worked great. Bathrooms were spotless and well stocked with toilet paper. Very unique also! We had a wonderful time!

Business Retreat

Group of 7 of us stayed for an business strategy and planning retreat. The house is spacious with many comfortable rooms and three really nice group gathering areas. From housing perspective, it was perfect for us and we never felt tight or cramped. Access to Old Rag parking was 10-12 minutes, and maybe 25 minutes to Shenandoah Nat Park Entrance, but easy. 15 minutes to Sperryville. This is is country. There is wifi at the house, but as a group we found cell coverage very spotty and wifi was slow. We made it work for us and adapted. The Corner Store at the bottom of the hill has enough of what you will need, but suggest you bring groceries on your way in to the house. We stayed at Sun Dancer. There are 3 separate houses on this property (all rentals) and they share the grounds. The houses are each very private, and we did not feel like there were others around. If you wanted a place for a large family re-union, the total property could easily host if the other houses were available. Our host was super easy to work with and the check in/out process was really easy. We had a really nice time and would certainly consider returning.

Fantastic location for a family gathering

We spent the weekend together as a group of cousins who don't get to see each other as often as we'd like. The location was perfect, quiet and rather isolated with lots of room for the younger kids to explore outside without us having to worry about them. We made all of our meals at the house and had plenty of room to cook and sit down and eat as a family. The kitchen was fully stocked with all of the things we needed but if you like to "set it and forget it" there is not a crock pot so pack it with you if that's your plan. There were plenty of pots, pans, plates, glasses, mugs, silverware and everything else you can think of. The younger kids all stayed together in the bunk room and we could hear their happy giggles all night which was awesome! Cell service was pretty poor for us but we did use the wifi and it worked well until we had like 15 people logged onto it all at the same time so as long as you don't treat it like a pack elephant and overload it, it should work just fine for you. Fire side chats, playing cornhole in the driveway, fishing at the pond, and so much more enhanced our visit. We thought there was a hot tub but I think we might've misread that somewhere else and confused the listing but there is not a hot tub. There's a nice little hike to a pavilion that they call Cocktail Hill. You can't see the sunset from there like the description says as the clearing faces south but it's still a nice little hike and we enjoyed it anyway. We didn't feel like we missed out at all though because the night sky treated us to a show every night with a million stars! The gentleman that runs the little general store right in Etlan is such a pleasant and kind person and he was the icing on our visit! All in all, we had a great time and everyone in the group remarked about how great the place was and how perfect the location was for our weekend. Darden was super easy to get into contact with before our trip and everything was so clearly outlined in the packets provided that we never needed to get in touch with her during the weekend. This place was PERFECT and we absolutely loved it!!!

It was a perfect weekend. The house is great for large groups, the bedrooms are all spaced out and there is so many bathrooms, that everyone had privacy. The decor is very eclectic and interesting, made me wonder about the travel stories that went with them. My favorite was hands down the master bathroom. A larger grill would be good as well as all the pieces to the checkers and chess sets. Convenient to wineries/breweries. Ducard is our favorite. We would definitely return!

Absolutely terrific for our group of 10 old farts and their adult children for our annual reunion. Beautiful house and furnishings, spectacular view of the valley from the living room and front deck. Superb local hiking. Great weather might have influenced this review, but I would highly recommend this property and its hosts.

Gorgeous and unique property.

The property is very secluded yet not far off the main road. Open large kitchen/living/dining room with ample seating and space for 14 adults and two small children.. Kitchen is well appointed and we appreciated the huge island area. Bedrooms are large and we were able to accommodate 2 portacribs easily. I was confused about bathrooms as it is listed in one place as 4-1/2 (which is what it is ) but also as 5 and 6 bathrooms in other places within listing. Bathrooms are very large and easily shared but only 2 are accessible without entering a bedroom. One of those does not have a shower only a bathtub. Essentially if you have adults in the loft which sleeps 6 they would need to share one of 3 showers and the 2 adults in the bedroom next to the bathroom with only a tub would also need to share one of 3 bathrooms with showers. This was not a problem with our group of mostly 30 somethings but it could pose an issue for some.
