My husband, stepson, daughter-in-law, and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Gatehouse in Bar Harbor! The location is perfect...within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops, the Town Pier (for excursions), Main Street, and the local supermarket. The kitchen was well-equipped with the necessities of dishes, glasses, cooking utensils, pots/pans, and bakeware.I had read negative comments from previous guests that the check-in process was in need of attention. Let me assure you that the issue has been fully resolved. Check-in was seamless using text messaging for communication and a keyless entry code. A "Welcome" information packet was also received which proved invaluable...great recommendations on things to do, places to see, and where to eat! As noted by other reviewers, this unit is located on the second floor (above a garage which appears to be used for storage). If a member of your party has difficulty with stairs, you might want to consider other options; however, for two people in their 40's, one in their 60's, and the fourth in their 70's, we only struggled a bit when carrying our luggage up. Also noted by previous guests, this is a 3-bedroom unit...one king room, one queen room, and one twin-over-double bunk room...each with its own private bathroom.We stayed here towards the end of a very busy summer season, so the unit was in need of a deep-clean but was in no way "dirty." We're already planning a return trip and would stay at The Gatehouse again!

The property was located convenient to restaurants and shopping in Bar Harbor but was still quiet overnight for sleeping. There is off-street parking which is a must in this area!

Gate House Stay

The Gate House was great. Three full bedrooms and baths were more than adequate for our family. The property was clean and the well stocked with everything we needed. When we needed some addition bath items the staff were very responsive and accommodating.You are a 5 minute walk to downtown Bar Harbor and Acadia is right around the corner.Having parking available is priceless.I would highly recommend the Gate House

Fantastic stay!!!! Perfect location in bar harbor to walk to everything. Bathrooms. Kitchen. Had EVERYTHING that we needed. Beds were great! Information given for around town was perfect! Would DEFINITELY stay again! ACADIA rocks!

Fun week in Bar Harbor

Very nice 3 bedroom/3 bath apartment within walking distance of restaurants & attractions of downtown Bar Harbor. Minutes from Acadia National Park. Would stay again….

Every bedroom has a bathroom! Great stay!

Great stay at this condo that is located right on Cottage St in Bar Harbor. The location is great, bc you are on the Main Street in downtown BH but at the quieter end, with free parking right next to condo. The place was very clean and well decorated and comfortable for our family of four adults. It is set up to give maximum privacy with 3 bedrooms and 3 baths, and there are AC/heat splits in every bedroom. Cooking/laundry/dishes all very easy. Although we did not use it, there is also back porch with table/chairs/grill. We would definitely stay here again and give a very strong recommendation for this wonderful condo!

Lovely condo

As others have said, the building is some nondescript, and the condo is up a flight of stairs over a garage, but the interior is lovely, spacious and comfortable. Plenty of space in the kitchen and a large dining room. It was very nice that each room had it’s own bathroom. The bunk room was on the street side, but seemed pretty quiet, and the other bedrooms were even quieter. The kitchen seemed well supplied, but, honestly, we went out a lot. Across the street the is a bakery, nice breakfast place, and a poke bowl place (newish in Sept 2023). Next door is a pizza place with a bar, next to that a small plates kind of place. In addition, there is a small but nice natural food store half a block away, and a larger grocery store about a block. Downtown is a few short blocks away. I would definitely stay here again.

The apartment was described as 2 king bedrooms and 1 double, in reality it had 1 king, 1 queen and 1 double (kids bunk). The unit was conveniently located and a nice space for our family to use as a landing space for our time in Bar Harbor. The kitchen had all the basics but needed glasses (only a set of tall cocktail glasses for drinking and wine glasses), each bedroom had a TV but they didn't work. When we checked in at the West Hotel the desk folks were very nice and helpful. We'd requested a crib, it wasn't in the apartment when we arrived but they delivered it quickly. I was totally blown away by the lack of response from the manager, I left 3 voice message about beds and TV and 1 message on the VRBO message board with NO response. It would be very hard to recommend a property that won't respond when you have a question.

Perfect Size & Location

We were three couples and a 2.5 year old vacationing for 5 nights. The size of the space was perfect us. The location was ideal for walking / biking through the town and Acadia.

Perfect in every way!

My family of 4 loved our stay! The property was clean, communication was very timely, and staff who let us in (Taylor) was polite, upbeat, and helpful. All beds were very comfortable, and we really appreciated the fans. Best of all was the perfect location! We loved being right across from Mt Desert Bakery (yum!), and walking distance to everything in downtown Bar Harbor! Highly recommend!

I would stay here again - no question! The location is good and this is great for families!

We have nothing but positives about the location and the place. The check in was difficult because it was not clear which unit we had. Our key fit the front door, but there are several units inside and it is not clear what unit is what. We suggested they put up clearly marked signs and are very specific about how to enter the unit you reserve. We went into one unit because the door was unlocked (the front door to the "house" required the key we used), but it was not the correct one - they all look alike! We left and locked the door, but couldn't get back in when we returned - because we were in the wrong one. The people at the hotel that help manage the property went ABOVE AND BEYOND to help us get it fixed and helped us move everything! This could have been a disaster, but they saved the day - and we ended up staying at a great place. Not really someone to blame, just make sure you understand exactly what unit you are going to and how to get to it.

Family trip to Acadia

We had a great stay and the property manager was super responsive and helpful. One important thing to note is that there is only one king bed. The other large bed is a queen and the third bedroom has a bunk bed with an extra wide mattress (maybe a double) on the bottom. Also the mattresses are on the soft side. But the unit is spacious, conveniently located in Bar Harbor, quiet at night, and nicely decorated. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes, cutlery, utensils, and pots and pans. Nice Weber propane grill on the back deck. AC works well. Lots of towels and toiletries. Bike rental and large grocery store within walking distance. If the property manager corrects the property description to make it clear that there is only one king bed, then I would say that the description is accurate.

Highly recommend this condo!

We had a wonderful time at Bar Harbor, and our stay at this condo added to our experience! This property was excellent - very well decorated, clean and newly renovated. The kitchen was well equipped with high-end cookware. the 3 bedrooms (1 with bunk beds for kids) are spacious, with closets and attached full bathrooms - this was very helpful! The best part was the location. It was so close to the waterfront as well as the village green, the restaurants and shops - we didn't have to drive and find parking as we could walk to any place. The grocery store is also a few minutes away and you can walk. The property manager was very responsive: when I called to ask about hair dryers (brand new condo so some of the things were still not in place), she immediately drove over to drop off the new hair dryers. There are two nice breakfast places right opposite the condo - so bonus points for that! Despite being on the busy street, it is not noisy as the sound proofing has been done well. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this place.

Worth the price - awesome condo in great location!

I highly recommend this 3 bedroom rental for a stay in Bar Harbor and Acadia. Everything is brand new and beautifully furnished, and the beds are so comfortable. You can walk to restaurants and shops and to the harbor area where we took a Whale Watching cruise (we saw many whales but it was cold!). Since parking is difficult in town being able to walk from this condo was so convenient and there is a full grocery store two blocks away. We absolutely loved everything about our stay!

Hidden Gem

Fantastic condo - we'd definitely return. It's managed by a local hotel, and the staff aren't all aware of the property, so the communication isn't great. But it's a fantastic place.

Don’t judge a book by its cover

This is a newly renovated condo in a house that is not numbered and on the slightly grittier side of Cottage Street than the section that borders Main Street. That said, the condo itself is well appointed and was designed with renters in mind. TVs in every room, among other things. It is managed by the same people who manage West St hotel, which was also helpful, as they seem to be on top of catering to guest needs. The location is walking distance to all major sites in downtown Bar Harbor and close to a bike rental shop if you want to cycle the carriage roads in Acadia. Would definitely stay there again.
