The gated, botanical garden retreat consists of a 4-acre peninsula surrounded by a private 20-acre freshwater lake as well as a very secluded pool and spa. The estate is rented by a non-profit foundation and offers a truly unique one of a kind Kauai experience.

Our stay at Kīlauea Lakeside Estate was absolutely magical! From the moment we booked, the host Steve was in touch with helpful recommendations and a wealth of information about the area and his beautiful property. The description and pictures online pale in comparison to how idyllic the spot is in person. The property is massive and is filled with beautiful plants and fruit trees, birds, and other wildlife. It's like the garden of Eden. And the home is spacious, well appointed, and very comfortable for a family. We loved the spa like primary suite and bathroom, the resort style saltwater pool and hot tub tucked away in a jungle like setting, and the gorgeous viewsfrom every window. The beds were comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, and there wereplenty of beach supplies for our days at Anini and Hanalei Bay. We enjoyed delicious meals in Kīlauea, Kapaa and Hanalei and the home is perfectly situated for exploring beautiful Kauai. The host was helpful but not intrusive and we were delighted to learn that the profits from our stay go to support local charities. The groundskeeper kept us stocked in fresh fruit from the banana, star fruit, grapefruit and avocado trees, and we had so much fun playing games and watching movies in the comfortable, spacious family room. The sounds of the rain, breeze, wandering chickens and other wildlife through the many windows were the perfect accompaniment to our stay in paradise. One of the best vacation rentals we have ever stayed in!

There aren’t enough words to say how great this stay was. This was my family’s first Christmas on vacation, and we were looking for someplace tropical and secluded but within a short drive to shopping, food, and activities. The location is great, and we took short trips during the week to see the whales from the overlook near Kilauea Lighthouse (we saw lots), swim on Anini Beach (protected by a reef and full of turtles), and eat/shop in Hanalei (easy to spend the day here). Steve recommended all those activities and was just a fantastic host. He was always available/responsive and that really made the whole trip stress-free. The property itself is gorgeous. It’s large and covered in flowers and fruit trees. Since it’s a nature preserve there’s plenty of birdwatching to be done, especially by the lake. The pool complex is beautifully designed with a waterfall grotto, lots of flowers and monstera leaves overhanging, and drains via a cascading stream. The hot tub is a treat as well. It’s built into the rock formation next to the pool and has a floor made up of tiny pebbles. On a clear night with the pool area lights out you can see the Milky Way stretching overhead. Inside, the main house is spacious, clean, and comfortable. It would have been easy to spend the whole trip at the property swimming, watching TV, doing puzzles, and paddling a kayak around the lake. My family has spent the week since we’ve been back home wondering why we didn’t stay longer.

Absolutely mesmerizing. The listing doesn’t do it justice. A complete Hawaiian paradise! You will not regret staying here. The property is immaculate with wildlife and lots of diversity. The location feels remote without being remote. It’s perfect!

Amazing Estate

This property is the definition of paradise. The cool trade winds were amazing, there was rarely any need to close the windows. The location was ideal, a 10-minute drive to Kilauea, a perfect place to find restaurants. My 15 and 17-year-old boys spent their evenings at a newly discovered gym, Kilauea Phys Ed. We enjoyed hiking down to secret beach, then returning to spend time in the estate's tropical pool and hot tub. My sons and I cooked out on the grill almost every night.Steve was always available by phone to answer any questions or provide additional information about the property.

Fantastic place, Fantastic hose.... Kauai Doesn't get much better.

I truly cannot put into words how incredible our stay was. The property and Mr. Steve go hand in hand for how truly awesome our experience was. My family will never forget this trip and we hope to stay again next time we make our way out to Kauai. The property is clean, well-kept, and in a beautiful surroundings. It's the definition of a relaxing spot for vacation. From the lush landscaping, to the beautiful comfort of the home, to surprises in exploring the property, there is no place better in our opinion. Mr. Steve is a wonderful host, extremely knowledgeable, kind, and very gracious to be available anytime we had a question or needed a recommendation. We were so blessed to have this experience and enjoy knowing that our stay also helped fund scholarships to the non-profit this property supports. If someone is reading this and trying to find a memorable place with privacy and unique beauty... you cannot find much better!

Paradise found in paradise!

Blown away - the first two words that come to mind after staying at this incredible place. Everything about the house was perfect, from the cleanliness, decor, amenities, grounds, plants, fruit trees, waterfalls and gardens to the overall tasteful vibe of the house's layout. Paradise on Kauai

Kilauea Lakeside Estate in my opinion was paradise! It is beautiful and serene. So many different trees and fruit. We had fresh limes, starfruit, and white apples (which I've never seen before). The home is secluded, beautiful and very comfortable. We kept the sliding doors open all the time and never worried about anyone coming on the property. Early mornings drinking coffee on the lanai facing the lake was so peaceful. My grandchildren paddled around the lake, we swam in the pool and relaxed in the hot tub - which was secluded with trees all around. Steve, the owner, was very helpful in letting us know where the good beaches were and good restaurants were in the area and much more. We enjoyed talking with Marcos, the groundskeeper. He was very nice & explained what some of the trees and fruit were. Our time went by too fast and we want to come back and stay longer. Thank you Steve for all the help & advise. We LOVED it! 10 stars...AMAZING Estate!

This HOME is much nicer than the typical vacation rental. The entire property has a substantial/intentional vibe. HGTV fans will LOVE it! The attention to detail, the quality of all the appliances & materials used are all first rate. This luxurious estate is worth the trip to Kauai alone. All of the beds are super comfortable. Our boys loved the guest bedroom with the four twin beds. The house is well ventilated with fans, sliders, and window vents. We never needed the AC. The estate is in a very convenient location. It’s 5 min. from Rock Quarry beach & 5 min. from Kilauea. There are no neighbors for a 1/4 mile. You are surrounded by a jungle and a lake...very private! There are so many activities for the family to do on property. We played on the Par3 golf hole every morning with breakfast and a Bluetooth speaker. There is an amazing saltwater pool with a sandy bottom spa. There are kayaks, paddle boards, and a 6-person raft for the lake. There’s even a charming rope swing! The home is very comfortable and easy to use. We used the two lanais daily. There is a state-of-the-art home entertainment system in the main room with surround sound. It has a smart remote control that makes all of the functions intuitive. The kitchen is perfect for entertaining-we cooked every day & used the grill several times. Everything you use in this kitchen is quality. Our host helped us get the most out of his home and provided advice about the North Side. We will definitely be back!

Spectacular Botanical Garden Retreat w/ Private Lake

House: I love this Hawaiian-style, eco-friendly, and art filled home. The floorplan is contemporary so it affords you all the conveniences of modern life, but with an abundance of traditional flourishes making you feel that you are seeing the “real” Hawaii. Plus the huge living area is filled with natural light with large screened sliding doors giving you all the enjoyment of outdoor living without the bugs. The structure is not only comfortable, beautiful, and well appointed, but there are wonderful hidden gems everywhere. This place has loads of charm, and is very private. It is unique, and spacious; it is stylish, modern, and artsy– everything you might want in a Hawaiian get-away or retreat. We felt instantly at home. There are also several attached and covered porches for relaxing, eating and daydreaming, which we took full advantage of. I am an avid cook, and the kitchen has everything you could possibly need PLUS there is a grill, with a view of the one hole golf course right on the lawn! Grounds: The house is surrounded by beautiful tropical gardens, and from every room on the East side of the house you look across the property to the picturesque lake filled with bird life. Fruit trees line the drive to the house with not only the requisite oranges and other citrus trees but also star fruit, rambutan, and mango trees. The lovely stone lined salt water pool and hot tub are a short walk down a rustic path bordered by a rushing stream. Location: I have only stayed in Poipu on previous trips to Kauai, but this vacation changed my mind forever. The North side of the island is lush and peaceful and we found everything we needed in the nearby towns of Kilauea and Princeville (just a few miles down the road). The house is also located in a wildlife refuge so it is akin to living in a well groomed park. Host: Steve was so incredibly helpful, friendly, and amiable as well as very communicative. His suggestions for local shops and restaurants were extremely helpful and he had a genuine concern about our well being. All these factors made our experience truly exceptional. The house has everything you might need, and Steve very generously lent us a couple of extra snorkel gear bags so that everyone in our party could take advantage of the amazing reef-life close by at Anini Beach where you can swim with the sea turtles. Five stars - both for the turtles and Steve!

Fabulous last minute find!

We were in need of a place to stay when our other plans fell through and this Lakeside Estate was thankfully available for us to enjoy through a Kauai rainstorm which we did from the very comfy lanai. The beauty surrounding us was astounding. The lake is so pretty with birds flying all around. The landscape is immaculate and walking around the property is an adventure in itself. The house is well-stocked and comfortable. I especially liked that the Estate is a non-profit which benefits children's programs on the island. And, the owner was very helpful and available to us whenever we needed assistance. I would definitely recommend this spot.

Amazing property and hosts

Went for a special family retreat, we could not have been happier with both the house, property or our hosts. They made sure all our requests for group yoga classes and special dinner was well researched and memorable. I would highly recommend to my friends and we would love to come back..

It Doesn't Get Nicer Than This Place

When we showed up to the Waterfall House, we knew that we had chosen the best place on the island for us. The photos are pretty, but the property is unreal! Photos don't capture the amazing experience you feel being there. My favorite memory of the waterfall house was being able to sit in the living room, turn on music, and feel the warm wind blow through the entire house while peering over looking at the beautiful water fall roll through the property. This was after I did a work out in the Gym which obviously had a beautiful view since it was perched up on the second story above the garage. The Waterfall House was not just a place to stay, but it was an entire experience. This place was well designed, furnished with unbelievable taste, and not only had everything you needed, but had everything you didn't know you might want! It was so nice to have such a private secluded experience and be a short driving distance to all the great spots to check out on the island. This was a real big plus for us! I cant say enough great things about this place. Hawaii was a destination to see the whole island, but now I would book an entire trip just to stay at the Waterfall House. It is the total experience on a beautiful Island.

Wonderful honeymoon location

My honeymoon was extra special at the Waterfall House. We stayed 6 nights in this secluded paradise location. The property is very private, modern, ecological, clean, well kept, and cozy. We walked to a nearby beach, picked fresh fruits from trees on the property, swam in a heated pool, enjoyed outdoor showers in complete privacy, and took moonlit walks under the brilliant Milkyway stars. We shopped locally for farm fresh foods and prepared our meals on-site in a well stocked modern kitchen. We also went to a few restaurants nearby. The property owner was completely friendly and helpful, and always respectful of our privacy. This property was absolutely wonderful and I highly recommend it. If you plan to visit Kaui, be prepared to experience lots of sun, brief showers, breathtaking sights, a few insects, and Kaui's chickens which cover the entire island.

We wanted to thank all of you again for sharing the Waterfall House. The efforts to make the place exceptional are exceedingly evident and hugely successful. The landscaping alone was so impactful that I could only imagine the hours, days, and weeks spent on just that segment of the project. Nature sculpted the terrain, the senior members of the team secured the potential, and the juniors showcased their design/building talents, topping it off with Aloha hospitality. Our extended standing applause! I can’t imagine an encore after that!

A DIFFERENT KIND OF REVIEW

My SO and I are both professionals with AA personalities. We were looking for a place to relax and breathe. This is such a place. This is a gated property on a secluded lake. There is much to do on the island and Steve will give you directions and advice if you so choose. For us the property was enough. I am a fly fisherman and spent a significant amount of time catching and releasing peacock bass, large mouth bass and freshwater tilapia. I was looking for Hawaii without crowds of tourists. I found it. If you want to do the usual tourist things they are there. If not, just drive through the gate and you are on a large property by yourselves. Ducks and a swan will happily join you (especially if you offer them bread)The house is very well appointed, the pictures on this web site give an accurate representation. If anything the reality of the property is better. There are multiple reviews of this property on multiple sites. They almost all say the same thing. This is a great place to use as a home base or a hide away. You have a great opportunity to do whatever you see as an ideal Hawaiian vacation. You can find lots to do with lots of people or just spend time with one. For me finding a place to do the later is more difficult. This is that place.

Island Paradise we will never forget!

My husband and I just celebrated our 10 year anniversay and my sister posted some pictures of our wedding celebration at Kilauea Liakeside Estate. I thought I would see if the estate was still available for rent and when I found it was I felt I had to post something! Our families flew in from NZ, Australia and the US for a week of celebration back in 2003. We chose the estate so we could have an intimate wedding ceremony and reception on the property. We had 35 guests and each and every one of them insist that it was one of the best weddings they had ever attended. The location is amazing, the home is very comfortable and well appointed and the grounds made sure there was something for everyone to do, even doing nothing was so blissful here. Our guests stayed in condos close by and we were married by the lake, with a reception to follow. If you are looking for a small, intimate and totally private setting then this is it! I would definitely recommend! (It is also just a few minutes drive from shops, restaurants, the beach, golf, spa, fabulous location.)
