Escape to our rustic lakefront home in Griswold, CT. Our home is on an oversized lot giving you plenty of privacy and space to enjoy the waterfront. Enjoy the beautiful views (the sunsets are particularly spectacular) from multiple outdoor seating areas, the dock, or the 2 firepits. There is also a balcony off of the large king size bedroom. This home rental includes the use of the kayak at no charge.

The house is direct waterfront on Ashland Lake, a ponded section of the Pachaug River in Griswold, CT. You can fish, swim, kayak, canoe, and more in the extremely picturesque waters right off the grassy backyard of our cottage home. Use our kayak or bring your own if you prefer - you can boat right from our personal dock in the backyard.

Although you will want to spend as much time as possible enjoying the water and the views we have gone the extra mile to make all aspects of our waterfront house feel like home.

Inside you will find a game room that is perfect for all ages and a home theater room with a large projector screen. The game room also includes a new bunk bed and a Pac-Man arcade game. The main floor of the lake house includes the living room with a tv and plenty of seating, fully stocked kitchen, full bathroom, a queen sized bedroom, and a king size bedroom which has it's own sitting area, desk, and balcony that overlooks the water. Pets are also welcome with a paid pet fee. 

Important: Sheets and towels ARE included with your stay. They are washed before and after every guest, feel free to use the laundry room during your stay as needed as well. We also provide a starter pack of paper towels, toilet paper, toiletries, cleaning products, soaps, detergent, sponges, k cups, nespresso pods, and tea!

This lakehome has so much to offer! Some of the nearby attractions include:
Buttonwood Farm - known for their ice cream and sunflower fields ~ 10 minutes
Pachaug State Forest - The largest in the Connecticut state forest system ~ 12 minutes
Hopeville Pond State Park - multiple hiking trails on 400 acres of mixed woodland ~ 5 minutes
Stonebridge Farm - alpaca farm with open farm weekends ~ 8 minutes
River Ridge Golf Course - pristine golf course with idyllic views ~ 8 minutes
Mohegan Sun Casino/Arena - 20 minutes
Foxwoods Resort and Casino - 20 minutes
Mystic Aquarium and Mystic Village - ~30 minutes

I was very disappointed by my stay. "Swimming and fishing" were advertised but were impossible due to the excessive weeds in the lake. There were rotting deck boards and a ramp to one of the levels was broken. The concrete walkway was crumbling and there were missing fence posts in 2 places where a young child or pet could fall through to the yard far below. The counter had to be lifted in order to open/close the dishwasher door, and the kitchen windows were filthy. The water pressure throbbed so it was either too strong or too light. The shed, with the hole in the roof and rotted floor was scary. The view was pretty and the furniture was comfy, but I would not recommend this place to anyone.

This property was completely misrepresented. From the lovely view of the trailer park across the street with aggressive dogs, to nothing cleaned inside or out, having to lift the kitchen counter to close the dishwasher to leaving the basement door unlocked to having rebar sticking out of one of the fire pits, neither of which had been cleaned. We were devastated upon seeing this decaying property that was clearly once a gem. I am shocked this was listed as “premier”.The entire property was falling apart and NOTHING was cleaned or prepared in advance. Clearly the ratings were falsified. The “beach” is a patch of weeds next to the water. Our family vacation was absolutely ruined. If the outside lights had worked, we would have repacked that night and headed back home. Absolutely devastated.

As previously mentioned in another review, the condition of the property grounds is depleted and impacts the ability to enjoy this property. Weeds are growing out of the gutters, windows are broken and filthy, the fire pit is not safe being on wood, there was no charcoal for the grill, and the “lake” is an overgrown pond with severe vegetation and algae and was not swimmable during our stay. The cleanliness of the inside of the house is poor. There was an inch of dust on the living room fan, urine on the basement toilet, no hand soap in the bathroom, dust on surfaces, dog hair through out the property, crumbs on the dish mat, etc. We vacuumed when we got there and filled the canister with dog fur. The kitchen floor is crumbling and the metal rim to the platform in the basement is broken and is a safety risk to young children. The basement smelt like mold. The balcony did not appear stable or safe. We expressed concerns to the hosts who did send a new charcoal grill and pack and play as the one there was broken. They did not offer to send the cleaning crew back out and when I requested a refund for the cleaning fee they stated “If and only IF you agree to not leave a review”. I assume this is not the first time this has happened and is part of the reason this property has a 9/10 rating. Very disappointed in our experience. This does not meet the VRBO standard and I expressed that to customer service. This property is not worth the price.

Expecting more

From the photos in the listing and other reviews we we expecting much more. The outside of the property is not maintained well and severely impeded the use of the grounds as depicted in the listing.The inside of the property, especially the "theater room" needed attention as well.

Great place for a getaway.

We were in the area for a wedding in Connecticut and visiting family in Massachusetts. The location was perfect being in the middle of both events. Its a very quiet neighborhood. All amenities were as stated in the listing. The bed in the main bedroom is very comfortable. We will come back if we are in the area again.bedroom was very cconformable.

Nice escape in winter

It's a gorgeous property and would be amazing in warmer weather. It was mostly clean. One star loss as the downstairs while set up for children is not safe. The sticky corner padding kept coming off and the screws used for the level change stick out for easy cuts. Also in the colder weather it's freezing down then

Quiet Friends Winter Getaway

We had a cozy and fun girls weekend here. Close enough to Mystic and Niantic for some shopping and dining. Even on a cold winter weekend we had a nice time and had cozy comfy evenings in, enjoying the projector room. Would love to come back in warmer months for a different experience.

Amazing Trip - Wish We Have Stayed Longer

We had an amazing stay at this beautiful lake house! The views were stunning, and the house itself was clean, cozy, and well-equipped with everything we needed. We especially loved spending mornings on the deck with coffee and evenings by the water. It's the perfect spot for a relaxing getaway, and we can't wait to come back!

Relaxing lake house

Really nice stay at Michael and Ashleigh's lake house. It was clean, great view, and an easy check-in process. We would recommend.

Relaxing getaway

We stayed for 4 days and 3 nights at the house. Its a great location of you want to also hit up the casinos, which we did. The area is nice and quiet so we really enjoyed sitting outside and relaxing. My only cons is the basic cleanliness/upkeep. I know that the outside will have leaves and branches due to having trees around but the corner areas of wet piles of leaves and the weeds in all the gravel made it look really unkept. Besides a few touchups of paint and cleaning of some of the wall surfaces that are touched alot like near outlets the inside is juat as described.

The first time we visited this lake house we knew it was the perfect vacation home for our family. When we drove up to the house we parked and immediately walked to the patio to take in the view. In that moment I knew I was home. Soaking up the crisp autumn New England air I closed my eyes and listened to the sounds around me - our small children running through the large backyard, the ducks calling out, and finally the sound of the water lapping up against the dock. These are the sights and sounds that memories are made of - and that photos and videos just cannot capture completely. The is no doubt about it, this is the perfect lakefront cottage for our family. We take immense pride in our lake home and are thrilled to be able to host guests who will hopefully love it just as much as we do.
