Historic Home Rufus Abbott Manor

Come sleep in history! The Nauvoo Manor affords you the opportunity to stay in a Nauvoo Mormon Pioneer home! This historic home is just seven blocks from the temple and sleeps up to nine comfortably.

One of only a few Nauvoo red brick Pioneer homes not owned by The LDS church. The Manor is located next to the historic road to Carthage.

Rufus Abbott started building this home in 1839 and finished it in 1845 just before his family left with Brigham Young to travel to Salt Lake City in February 1846.

As an authentic Nauvoo red brick pioneer home, this home will give you the experience of Nauvoo and let you live where the pioneers lived. You will experience the history you learned about at the church restoration sites down on the flats. A unique and special opportunity indeed!

The house is lovely. The host communicates promptly to all communications, usually within hours. She was extremely responsive to all requests. The house was exactly as described. A lovely period home located in Nauvoo, complete with period furnishings, lovingly tended.

The home was absolutely beautiful. I can think of no place better place to stay in Nauvoo than in an actual pioneer-era house. It is especially perfect for large families. The host was also very easy to work with. We will definitely be back!

We truly enjoyed our stay there and would highly recommend the experience of staying in a period correct home to get the full experience of Nauvoo. Our hosts were fantastic and quick to respond. It was an incredible experience seeing the temple and interacting with the missionaries. Priceless!

The location is great for Nauvoo. It is close to the main town and close drive to the historic sites. It was clean and a fun historic three bedroom house decorated with interesting memorabilia. There are only two bathrooms; one upstairs and one downstairs. The two couches are futons which make into beds in the downstairs bedroom and living room. The house had a/c units in various rooms which is needed in the summer. We did not need them as the weather was beginning to change. A washer/dryer was available to use. We were close to walk to the Nauvoo Family Motel where we rented a golf cart to drive to the historic areas. It was a close walk to Casey’s for food/snacks. Most restaurants are closed on Sunday and Monday. Only the Red Front was open on Monday. So plan to buy food ahead as there is no grocery store in Nauvoo. Keokuk was similar with limited restaurants opened on Mondays. Closest grocery store is in Keokuk, Iowa about a 15 minute drive along the Mississippi River. Beware of the speed change and trap on the road towards Nauvoo from Keokuk and Mullholland! Police will give you a ticket as the speed changes from 55 mph to 30 mph and an officer is ready to make his quotas. The family loved that we were staying in an older 1840’s home with such historic significance similar to what the early settlers experienced. We left a suit case and the owners helped us get it back. They were so helpful to work with. The gave hope to a difficult situation! We recommend this.

The property is lovely and so well cared for. It is clean and has everything you need. the furnishings and decor from the time period makes it feel like you’ve gone back in time but you still have the modern conveniences. We loved staying here. So close to all the attractions and Old Nauvoo.

This was a really nice home to stay in - close to Historic Nauvoo, updated and clean bathrooms, comfortable beds, cool AC for the summer. We would definitely stay there again!

Perfect place to enjoy church history in Nauvoo

This was the perfect place to enjoy the church history in Nauvoo. The location was great and staying in a pioneer home added a lot to our experience. Knowing a little about the background of the family living here during that time was enriching. Great communication with the owners. Thanks for letting us stay in your home. Great historic property

Perfect place to stay when visiting historic Nauvoo. Two of the rooms are up steep stairs. So make sure your group is capable of that. Lovely property. Would definitely stay again when we come back.

Nice place to stay

House was comfortable. It was very convenient for our stay. We were there to see all the historic Nauvoo stuff. The house was a 2 minute drive to the temple and 5 minutes from old Nauvoo, which made it nice during to day to run back and have lunch or dinner.
