Just 12 km West of Cherbourg, the seaside cottage ’The Wheat Watermill’, for 4 to 6 people, is located in the wooded and flower-filled grounds of the Manoir de Dur-Écu (16th century, listed as a historical monument, open to the public in summer). You are at the gateway to La Hague, the stunning natural region at the tip of the Cotentin peninsula, with breathtaking landscapes.

300m from the beach with panoramic sea views. Short or long hikes (GR trails) start right from your doorstep.

Built in a mill dating back to 1808. Located in a rural area (so potentially allergenic). Rated 3 stars nationally.

Terrace facing the sea, furnished with garden furniture. 1 km from shops. Eco-friendly and efficient heating via geothermal energy and radiators. Very comfortable ! For added enjoyment, we have included a wood-burning stove.

Duplex accessed by approximately ten steps. The interior staircase is quite steep. Sorry, this property is not accessible to people with reduced mobility.

At the top of the stairs: 2 separate bedrooms, one with a double bed (140cm) and the other with two single beds (110cm). The double bedroom is accessed through the twin bedroom. Sheets, duvets, and towels are provided.

On the ground floor:
Living room with three windows overlooking the sea, TV, internet, and Wi-Fi. Sofa bed for two people.

Bathroom with bathtub, shower, and toilet.

Equipped kitchen with a combination oven (35cm x 35cm x 22cm interior), microwave, and conventional oven, dishwasher, washing machine, dryer, coffee maker, and refrigerator with freezer compartment.
Nespresso machine (with 15 complimentary capsules).

Water, electricity, and heating: The price includes water and an electricity allowance of up to 8 kWh per night. Additional kWh are charged at €0.20/kWh. Hot water radiator heating is included in the price. Firewood for the stove is not provided.

You must leave the cottage clean, or request a cleaning service (additional charge).

Private parking is available in front of the house.

The cottage and, above all, the surroundings are beautiful – you have a sea view from the window and can see the impressive mansion and its gardens next door (which we were able to visit on Open Monument Day, definitely worth seeing). The holiday flat is equipped with everything you need; there is also an outdoor area with a natural terrace in the shade, where a soothing little stream flows. A special bonus: dogs are allowed. We were greeted very warmly and shown around. There were also pastries for us and treats for the dogs, wonderful! Philippe, his family and employees are charming hosts. We can recommend the accommodation and the location.

Wonderful tranquil place

We had a wonderful stay at the gite for over 2 weeks. It was the perfect place to visit the ehole of west Normandy includung Bayeux. It is close to the sea and to the village of Urville, where the local supermarket Utile had everyting you need and has great opening hours. The gite itself is cosy and the fact that it is near the castke with great gardens is an absolute plus. The interior is a bit outdated on some occasions an could do with some repairs, but our stay was very much ok. If i visit Normandy again, i would certainly consider booking this again.

Good stay, nice house with some drawbacks

We had a lovely stay! We received a very warm welcome with fresh flowers and pastries. The house is beautifully situated and nicely furnished. The castle and its grounds are very impressive. The nearby beach is wonderful. We had a lovely time, but I can't give it full marks because there are a few shortcomings. The bathroom and kitchen are quite dated, and some things aren't in their best shape. The icebox in the fridge is broken, so there's always water in the fridge. Some of the stove's control knobs are missing, the shower head won't lock, etc. Unfortunately, some areas weren't entirely clean, as if the cleaning had only been superficial. For example, there was a lot of dust on the skirting boards, and some of the bedspreads were very stained and could use a wash. All in all, a good house, but not a top recommendation.

Many thanks for the positive comments. 2 hours after we had read this review a new fridge and a new gas stove were installed. Please, please, tell me at the beginning of your stay what is not satisfying. We have a team member dedicated to solving problems, but I have to know about them. We checked, but couldn't see anything wrong with the shower head. The bedspreads were just out of the cleaners, but stains remain (your predecessors seem to like to eat stuff with ketchup in bed). We are sorry for the dust on the skirting boards. We could have cleaned them as soon as we would have been told. In summer the rotation between guests is very fast, so we apologize if they're imperfections, but please give us an opportunity to correct them.

Wheat Water Mill at Dur Ecu

We have now stayed at this property 3 times, the location is amazing, the facilities perfect. Fantasic views and great local atmosphere, very peaceful. We have stayed at different times of the year and enjoyed walking, touring the area - the coastline is spectacular. The cottage itself is very well appointed, clean and has all the self catering holidaymaker needs. The standard of accomodation is very high and the fact that pets are allowed means that we have repeat booked and intend to do so again soon.Within 20 minutes drive from Cherbourg - this really is a very attractive holiday location from the UK. The welcome received and the level of care taken to prepare both the cottage and the surrounding gardens is exceptional.The cottage makes a very relaxing location for reading, resting and chilling out with a good wine, you can eat at home or try out the local restaurants. The Normandy coastline has much to offer for all ages including the WWII landing zones, wonderful churches and beautiful beaches. The Cite de la mer Aquarium at Cherbourg is amazing including a full size decommissioned submarine - which you can tour. This cottage is perfect for couples with pets. We could not rate this cottage any higher - it's excellent !!!

Sehr schöne, stilvolle und originelle Mühle auf einem riesigen Grundstück (mit Wald). Weitläufiger und ausgesprochen schöner Strand (hundefreundlich) fußläufig. Auch der Küstenwanderweg (Zöllnerpfad) in unmittelbarer Nähe. Sehr freundlicher, schneller und unkomplizierter Kontakt. Alles bestens ausgestattet. Wir haben uns sehr wohl gefühlt und würden gerne wiederkommen.

Das gesamte Anwesen ist unfassbar schön! Die Gebäude, der Park, das Wäldchen - Wahnsinn, buchstäblich wie im Märchen. Das Ferienhäuschen ist toll, alles da, was man braucht. Ok, es ist nicht alles super neu von der Einrichtung her, aber absolut ok. In ein paar Ecken hätte es sauberer sein können, aber ansonsten war alles tipp topp. Kontakt war auch bestens. Lage könnte nicht besser sein, direkt an einem wunderschönen Wanderweg. Einzigartig: der Blick aus dem Wohnzimmerfenster aufs Meer. Wir werden noch oft an diesen zauberhaften Ort denken!

Séjour enchanteur

Séjour merveilleux dans un lieu magique sous la surveillance calme des âmes anciennes du manoir...Calme et chants des oiseaux sont les seuls bruits que l'on entend....gîte qui correspond à la description. Confortable, il y a tout ce qu'il faut. La mer est à quelques minutes à pied et au départ du gîte il est possible de faire de magnifiques randonnées ou tout simplement de se baigner. Je recommande vivement.
