Where Japanese-influence blends with the natural world of Southeast Alaska, find serenity and true inner peace at Stone Lantern House­—the ultimate luxury retreat destination. This open concept, elegant home is purposefully and thoughtfully designed to immerse guests in nature.

With large, floor-length windows, guests have a view of the dormant volcano, Mt. Edgecumbe across from Sitka Sound. Located on Cannon Island and accessible by car, the secluded, waterfront property is surrounded by Sitka spruce trees. The house can accommodate up to 10 guests in its three, tranquil bedrooms and additional den. In addition to a Tea Room with traditional Japanese tatami mats, the Stone Lantern House boasts a wrap-around deck with full-length sliding glass doors, making you feel fully connected to the outdoors. Guests can enjoy their own private beach and ground, with lush green pathways leading down to the nearby ocean. The Stone Lantern House is truly the perfect place to unwind, relax, and enjoy the Southeast Alaska life and landscape.

This property is amazing … can’t wait to come back! Very clean and amazing ….A view from every room! We have been coming to Sitka for many years and have never stayed there .. had to book a year in advance … worth the wait. Peggy the cleaning lady was articulate… wonderful experience!

Beautiful house in Sitka!

This house was absolutely beautiful! There are great views from every window in the entire house. We enjoyed s'mores at the fire-pit outside, it sits right on the water’s edge. Our daughter took some of her wedding pics on the property and they are gorgeous! Lots of eagles in the area. It was super clean too! We would definitely stay here again!

The most important are the views and the ability to open your windows, that are everywhere! Eagles living in our trees and Ravens galore. Form our picture window we saw Orcas in Sitka Sound. And, we cooked hot dogs by the fire - by the ocean by the woods!! Hot dogs sticks provided.The ladies that run everything were so nice and responsive before & during our entire stay! We will be back to Sitka if only for the view and house!

I love the architecture and how the house seems to simply grow from the rock. The morning and evening views of Mt Edgecumbe, when the clouds allow for them, are breathtaking. Its close enough to town for easy access to Fish Baranof, and other town attractions, but far enough away that you feel like you have your own island each night. It is definitely a place you wont forget.

Cyndy welcomed us and showed us everything we needed to see and know about the house. Instructions were explained so we could enjoy out short visit. The house was most comfortable and the hosts very helpful in ensuring our stay was an experience to be remembered for a lifetime. The location is stunning. The views of Sitka Sound surrounded us. We could not have asked for more. We are just sorry we missed the Northern Lights - they were seen the night before we arrived and the night we left. Just another reason to return in the future.

Reviewer Comments: We rented SLH during the shoulder season so we would have a place to host our family and friends during our wedding weekend, and we are so glad we did! The open floor plan makes the upper level a fantastic gathering space. Everyone was blown away by the beautiful architecture ans views, and it felt special to be able to spend time together in such a clean, luxurious home. We'd definitely recommend this stay to any Sitkans who are looking for a local getaway for their wedding, family reunion, etc. We thought parking might be an issue, but it worked really well to have folks park on the SMC end of the road ans enjoy the beautiful walk out to the house on Cannon Island Road.

None can hold a candle to this property, based on the view, property features, and soothing calm of the funishings. Whether sitting and enjoying the scenery from every room, or hosting as large dinner party this is the property for you. I go to Sitka to recharge, I came away refreshed and with great memories.

Wonderful View & Beautilul Location!

There are glass windows everywhere. The house had more amenities than we could use. The house was very clean when we arrived. My only complaint was the Keurig was dirty inside. This is a pet peeve of mine. The master bedroom has an open door shower but it's too small to not have a door. When you shower, water gets all over the bathroom floor. The bed in the master bedroom was very comfortable. The master bedroom (the only one we used) could use some room darkening shades of some type. There is a sleep mask in the nightstands but I can't use them. The light starts pouring in around 4 AM. The window above the master bedroom bed needs a shade of some type. There is another house across the road that has the ability to see in, in my opinion. We didn't feel totally comfortable with that window not covered. There is only one TV in the house. It's located upstairs in the fireplace room. All the programing is streaming-based and took some getting used to as there were no instructions. A small desk with a comfortable chair would have been a nice addition. We were there for R&R but did manage to see Fortress of the Bear, the Alaska Raptor Center, the Sitka Sound Science Center, and did some hiking at Herring Cove. We ate at Channel Club, Mangiare Italian Restaurant (the Italian Sausage Mostaccioli was delicious!), Mean Queen, and Campfire Kitchen (excellent pizza and located inside Harbor Mountain Brewery). We wanted to eat at Ludvig's Bistro but they were closed. This was our 3rd trip to Sitka, 1st time staying at Stone Lantern House, and we can't wait to go back! Yes, we definitely would stay at Stone Lantern House again!
