Poor. The AC was broken on the second floor on night 2 and the communication with the owner was inconsistent. I didn’t get any confirmation that the AC would be fixed until I told the owner I was vacating the property early. I left the following day and the AC was still being worked on. Meanwhile the upstairs was 81 degrees. There is no easy way to charge the golf carts. An extension cord was required and had to run across the rear deck steps. There is no off-street parking for vehicles. There is an Alley and we were told specifically not to park in the grass. There is only one shower that worked for adults in the house located on the upstairs floor. Several of the beds were squeaking. There is no real couch in the house. The only couches in the family room were wicker with cushions. There was also only one TV in the whole house in the family room. The location was great but not worth the lack of working AC. The owners were also present at our check in to go through the house. It was awkward to have them there when we are trying to start our vacation.

Wonderful Week

Mermaid House was all that I wanted in our Beach Vacation and family reunion.Proximity to beach and town shops could not have been better!!!The house is well stocked for all family needs.. and Host Gerry was the best!! Even when we got locked out with babies!!We will definetly return to Cape Charles and the Mermaid House.

Location is Pefect-Check-in is Clunky-Communication Needs Improvement

I called the host 2 times to confirm check in time because the listing said check in 10 am check out 3 pm. He told me we could check in any time on 9-7 because the previous renters are leaving on Friday. I texted & called several times to let the host know we would be arrving in 10 mins. no answer. Upon arrival at the house at 1:30 pm the cleaning people were sitting on the porch & stated the house wasn't ready. I tried several times to reach the host at the number he provided me, he said he has no control over the cleaning people. Check in is at 4 and we try to make accommodations. I told him I never asked for an accommodation, I asked for a confirmation. Then one of the cleaning people left in a car. We sat on the porch for another 45 minutes before we realized that the cleaning people had left via the back door & that the one that left picked them up on the block behind the house. I called the host again to let him know the cleaning people had left & the manner the left. He said Martha would be over shortly with the keys. I asked how long "shortly" because we had been sitting on the front porch like homeless people with 2 babies for over an hour. He said she will be there shortly, then hang up on me. Martha arrived gave us the keys pointed out the rooms downstairs. Once in the kitchen we were barraged with fruit flies and black flies. I didn't bother to contact the host since he hung up on me. We had to put ALL food in fridge, couldn't eat in the house, bought traps.

wonderful vacation retreat

Wonderful cottage that was clean and spacious for our family. Well stocked with linens and tastefully decorated. It was close to the downtown for ease of access and close to the beach for an easy walk to the waterside. Terrific place to rent and we will return!

Exactly what was needed

The pictures do not do this property justice. The colors of the home are calm and relaxing, the bedrooms are large, and the location from house to beach is a 2 minute walk. We enjoyed walking back and forth from beach to home multiple times through the day. Thoroughly enjoyed walking to the coffee shop every morning. This place was exactly what we needed.... tons of space, relaxing home, slow pace town, and did not have to drive the car once the entire week. We will definitely be back!

A wonderful place to stay in Cape Charles!

This is a great house, in a great location, that has tons of character and is equipped with everything you could possibly need for your stay. This is our second stay and I would definitely stay again.

Beautiful house close to the beach

We loved the property. There was plenty of room for four adults and two children. The house is minutes from the beach and all the shops. There is a nice deck and back yard. The front porch looks out over the water. We would definitely stay there again!

Great stay at the Mermaid

Great stay at the Mermaid! Excellent location and house was really nice. Appreciated the extra details like the beach towels available, laundry detergent pods and extra towels. Also loved having an easy to use vacuum to get up some of the sand. Very convenient and enjoyed our time at the house and Cape Charles.
