Welcome to the Dachshund Door! This historic building has lived many lives and is ready to welcome you to a distinctive and notable stay. Located 15 minutes from the World Equestrian Center (WEC) and Lake Cowan, it is the perfect location to unwind in luxury, style, and comfort. If you want to get away but not travel hours, we are 45 minutes or less from Cincinnati with many popular locations 30 minutes away, including Kings Island and the Loveland Bike Trail.
The Dachshund Door is the entire second floor of an over 100-year-old building. This building's original use was First National Bank. It has also been Blanchester's Police Station and antique shop among other uses! Being on the second floor, you will have to ascend a staircase with thirty stairs once inside the door.
There are three bedrooms to choose to stay in each with distinct styles. The White Bedroom has a king size high-end hybrid mattress, luxury resort linens, walk in closet and full bath attached. The full bath boasts floor to ceiling natural stone tile and clawfoot tub with shower attachments. The Black Bedroom has a custom triple bunk and standard bunk with five high-end hybrid twin mattresses. There are large custom drawers for storing clothes under bunk beds and a closet. The Green Bedroom is filled with old world luxury to discover. The king size high-end hybrid mattress with silky bamboo sheets will make it tough to leave the room and there are many curated books, antiques, and surprises to discover!
Each bedroom is equipped with a ceiling fan and Samsung Frame TV to stream from your favorite platform.
The open concept kitchen, dining, and living room will make socializing with your group seamless. The kitchen was custom designed with reclaimed antique butcher block work benches, four-foot stainless steel trough sink, reclaimed barn wood shelves, bar top, and hood, built-in refrigerator and gas range. Wall cabinets are original to building with a touch of updating. The dining table seats 10 guests and there are five additional seats at the bar. Have an intimate conversation in the two designer wingback chairs or unwind on the luxury Restoration Hardware leather sectional.
Tucked off the main hallway is a front loading washer and dryer and full bath with subway tile and full glass shower.
Please note:
-The White and Black bedrooms have light filtering curtains and will not block out light from room. The Green bedroom has blackout curtains.
-The living and dining room windows have reflective tint. You can see out but people cannot see in.
-The entry staircase is not heated and will seem chilly in winter months until you reach the top landing.
The Dachshund Door has been a labor of love and we ask you to show this space and its contents, which include many antiques and one-of-a-kind finds, with as much respect as possible so we can continue to share this amazing experience with other guests.
This is a very old building with as many original features as we could use. Please be patient with its old doors, drawers, latches, and locks. Very young children may have a difficult time with door knobs. Bedroom doors have glass inserts that could break if slammed.
If you are looking for something modern without any sticky doors or squeaky original hardwood floors, you should not book The Dachshund Door.
The Black Bedroom has a triple bunk and standard bunk. Please be aware that the triple bunk is taller than standard bunk beds and should be treated with respect. It is not a space to be jumping from beds and swinging the chair (ideas my own children thought were appropriate at first).
We love this space and want guests to love it just as much as we do. Do you have a well-trained pet or want to host an event? Please reach out to us to see if we can accommodate your request.
