Looking for a peaceful retreat? Come stay at Black Bear Retreat, a newly built chalet style cabin on the "Peaceful Side of the Smokies" right in the heart of Townsend, TN. We are located in the center of town, 200 ft from the Townsend bike trail, within walking distance of local restaurants, and a 5 minute drive from the Smoky Mountain National Park entrance. The visitors center, which hosts many local festivals and events, is only a 0.5 mile from the cabin.

About the Cabin:

The cabin features 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, plus a loft with 2 twin beds. The main level features a bedroom with a queen sized bed and a full sized bathroom. It boasts an open concept living room, dining room, kitchen with a loft. The living room has a Smart TV so log into your favorite app or enjoy free YouTubeTV during your stay. The upstairs loft opens to the living room and features 2 twin sizes beds, a perfect space for the kids! The lower level features an open concept living area and offers a sitting area with adjoining king sized bed as well as private access to a full sized bathroom. The bathroom features a walk in shower, vanity, and a full sized washer and dryer.

The cabin boasts two large decks. The upper deck features a grill and outdoor eating area. The lower deck features rocking chairs and hot tub. The lower deck also opens to a spacious lawn area - perfect for family outdoor games or just letting the kids run off some steam!

About the Area:

Townsend is a quaint town with local restaurants, coffee shops, and hosts many festivals throughout the year. Enjoy a swim or tubing in The Little River, embark on a nature walk, bike the town trails, or take a short drive to the beautiful Foothills Parkway. The Smoky Mountain National Park entrance is a quick 5 minute drive from the cabin and is near the Cades Cove side of the Smokies. Townsend is a short drive from Wears Valley, 25 minutes from Pigeon Forge, and offers a scenic 45 minute drive to Gatlinburg.

The cabin was perfect for our family. It had everything we needed.It's right in town close to everything.When we arrived the host had the lights and heater on for us. It was warm and cozy. The beds were comfortable plenty of blankets. It was very clean.Jared and Molly we're very responsive when I had questions. The check-in was so easy. I would definitely stay here again.

Everything was perfect. Absolutely no complaints easy to get to. I will say that the downstairs area was a lot bigger than when I thought it was gonna be. It’s almost like having a small little apartment down there. It’s nice too because there’s a gas station/small grocery store almost across the street but I would definitely stay there again.

We had such a great time in this cozy cabin. The layout was really nice and made for an enjoyable time together. The hot tub was a great addition. The proximity to the bike path was perfect and made it easy to take short rides to the various local businesses nearby. Hosts were accessible and kind. This was our first time in Townsend and now we are huge fans- we prefer the Peaceful Side of the Smokys.

We especially enjoyed the location of Black Bear Retreat because of the close location to the bike/walking path. Very convenient to restaurants & Cades Cove entrance. The cabin was very clean & well equipped. We had a wonderful stay!

Very disappointed that there was no TV in basement. Had to go purchase one for our stay. Also I felt like we were being watched and heard at the house. When you texted about driving on the property, we had just discussed this issue about one of our family members who had a disability due to a catastrophic injury and how to get him into the house. You had to have heard our conversation to be able to respond to me as quickly as you did, about not driving on the property, which of course we did not.

Everything about our stay here was perfect. The house was incredibly clean, well stocked, and communication with the hosts was excellent. The hot tub was a huge plus as well! Highly recommend!!

Gorgeous cabin

Had a great 3 night stay here for spring break. It is in a wonderful location in Townsend just off the main road but still super quiet. The layout is nice with the 3 bedroom areas all separated. It was impeccably clean. We will certainly be back.

Great place in the Peaceful side of the Smokies

This cabin is very clean and comfortable! The walkng/bike trail is almost in your front yard. You can easily walk to resturants and shops. Very close to the Smoky Mountain Park entrance. Close to lots of hiking trailheads and the Cades Cove area.

Great stay, very good location

Property was easy to find, and convenient to everything; including entertainment, National Park, restaurants, shopping and Knoxville. Jared and Molly were the best. We were in contact before, during and after our stay. Our granddaughters loved the hot tub. Got in to relax everyday after Theme Parks, touring and antiquing. Our family enjoyed a wonderful Christmas morning, and a Christmas dinner at our daughters home in Maryville about 20 miles away.

We stayed here for the week of my brother’s wedding in Townsend. I cannot recommend this property enough. The hosts were always checking in to see if we were comfortable or needed anything. The property is very clean and home-like feeling. My family & I would 100% stay here again.

Great stay!

Cabin was in close proximity to Cades Cove and some great restaurants/pubs, all within a mile or two or less! Hot tub was very clean, and the kitchen had everything we needed and more. Cabin is clean and in great shape. Recommend.
