Stekkar - Cozy Cottage On The Golden Circle, Warm And Welcoming, Spa Facilities

Stekkar is a charming and fully equipped cottage with over 100 square meters of living space and an additional guest house with an additional 30 square meters of space.
The house has two beautiful bedrooms with double bed and - if necessary - an extra sofa bed. A spacious and cozy living room, as well as a kitchen make the vacation paradise perfect. The guest house, a separate chalet, offers another spacious bedroom, a Finnish sauna and a second fully equipped bathroom with a door leading directly to the hot tub on the terrace.
From the house you have a magnificent view over the beautiful and naturally grown flatland, as well as over the farmland further down with a beautiful view of the second largest glacier in Iceland, the "Langjökull". The geothermal underfloor heating provides comfortable temperatures day and night, both in summer and winter.
Stekkar offers very good access to all kinds of activities in the area: horseback riding, trout or salmon fishing, golfing, river rafting, mountain hiking and snowmobiling, not to mention the numerous hiking and geothermal swimming opportunities. In Reykjavik, which is just over an hour away, you have the opportunity to go whale watching and deep sea fishing - ideal for self-catering!

Beautiful Home Beautiful View

Well cared for, very clean with everything we needed for a relaxing holiday. It is well located for the Golden Circle and centrally located between Vik and Reykjavik for other attractions. Beautiful views can be sent from the hot tub. We would return.

Wonderful vacation home

The home was as described in the listing and the hosts were very easy to communicate with. Everything was very clean and comfortable and the location was ideal to get to many parks and sites.

Beautiful vistas and wonderful stay

The highlight of the home is the geothermal hot tub overlooking vast Icelandic farmland with a backdrop of a glacier in the distance. Good location if you rent a car and don’t mind driving a bit. Overall a wonderful stay!

Stayed with family of 6. Perfect accommodations for our group. Home is in a great location. It is beautiful inside and out. Very well taken care of property. Bónus was view of the Northern lights. Would highly recommend staying here. Great overall experience.

Home away from Home

The place is perfect after a long day of exploring. It has everything you need. Jon is amazing at communicating and making your stay perfect. The location is about 20 minutes from the main road so be prepared to drive but this is the case wherever you stay in Iceland which is bigger than most anticipate.

Wonderful stay

We had a wonderful 3 night stay in Stekkar Cottage. The cottage was spotless when we arrived and check in was very easy. My two teenagers were both happy to have their own rooms. My college aged kid stayed in the guest house, which has its own bathroom and a sauna. The hot tub was a great way to end the day, with a glass of wine enjoying the beautiful view.

The pictures don’t show how beautiful the view actually is. It’s amazing. Very nice cabin and the hot tub was the best. We had a great time In Iceland and this beautiful place added to the magic of it all.

Incredible stay!

We had the most wonderful time at Stekkar Lodge. The photos really do not do it justice. The views are breathtaking! The lodge is very well appointed, and the hot tub is incredible. We loved having two separate spaces for the two families that were traveling together. Jon’s communication was flawless, and made everything a breeze. We would LOVE to stay here again.

Absolutely spectacular property!

We loved our stay at Stekkar Lodge. We had more than enough room for 3 adults and 3 kids. We made the most of the location on the Golden Circle, with so many great sites nearby. We really enjoyed soaking in the hot tub at the end of long days sight-seeing. Jon was very responsive and answered all of our questions. I highly recommend this property; it's even more breathtaking in-person!

Iceland Family Vacation

Our trip to Iceland was a long anticipated vacation our family was excited for and Stekkar Lodge was the perfect starting point! The lodge was ideally situated for our day trips on the Golden Circle and the perfect place to relax and recoup on our return. The lodge was clean, comfortable and warm and had everything we needed. Jon was a responsive and helpful host. We couldn't ask for more.

Simply gorgeous

We were allowed to stay in the house for 11 days. It is ideally located for excursions to the most famous sights. You have a great view from the hot tube. The sauna simply invites you to relax after a long day of hiking. The house is large and has everything you need. We had a very pleasant communication with the host and received a lot of information before our arrival. We can highly recommend the property!

Very cozy, great views!

The self check in process and communication was very easy & efficient. The host was very responsive. The combination of the Sauna & hot tub was amazing. The kitchen was well equipped and it was a nice touch having robes & water shoes provided. Thank you very much for an amazing stay, highly recommend this cottage. We enjoyed the many thoughtful touches to make our stay comfortable. We wish we had checked out this host’s other locations around Iceland.

Wonderful cabin/home

The cabin is cozy and well appointed. We had several problems that were taken care of as soon as was feasible. It is Iceland, so they are very helpful, and did come up with temporary fixes in some cases. Some things do take longer than in the U.S. I would stay there again for sure. The location is a bit off when trying to find it, the links on VRBO do need to be attended to. I think there are 3 different ones. We drove around awhile before finding it by the pictures. Very nice fixtures and comfortable.

Accidental Delight

I thought I was booking a place near Reykjavik -- guess I didn't understand the distances on the map! Well, Fludir / Stekkar turned out to be a much better location. It was central for the sites we wanted to visit (waterfalls, Geysir, Black Sand Beach, Lava Center, Thingvellir, Heimaey, etc.), and surrounded by amazing scenery. The photos in the listing don't do justice to the view, which is spectacular. The lodge was cozy and comfortable. Property manager Jon was easy to contact, and quickly dealt with the one very small maintenance issue we called to his attention. We would happily stay at Stekkar again.

Beautiful place - excellent hosts!

Jon and Auja greeted us with some local pastries and a hot cup of coffee after helping us up the hill through a recent snowstorm, so we got off to a very friendly start. The place is beautiful and the view is amazing. We had a chance to relax in the hot tub and see the northern lights! Can’t beat the serenity and joy of the cabin and the location was great to see some of the great sights in the area like Geysir and the Secret Lagoon. Can’t say enough about how great the hosts were - Jon went above and beyond to help me rescue my car from the snow both direct using his 4x4 and from afar by arranging for help from a neighbor. Literally saved us to be able to make our flight on time! 100% recommend staying with Jon here or any of his properties!

Amazing Stay!! Breathtaking View!

The view from Stekkar is breathtaking! Farmland below, lots of horses and sheep, river, church, skyline of glacial mountains where the sun sets. We really enjoyed being in the countryside, relaxing environment.Enjoyed the hot tub multiple times. Beds were comfy, kitchen adequately stocked. WiFi good overall, especially with two twenty-somethings. We used the grill a couple times after visiting the Farmers market just down the road with great fresh produce and local meats. Good location for us as we were mainly doing the southern part for our 7 day stay, really 5 full days with travel. Host is very kind and responsive. Nice welcome bottle of sparkling wine enjoyed! Cabin is situated high having the best view, may need 4 wheel dive especially if staying in winter months. We were visiting from US and rented one anyway. From this location we went to Reykjavík for a combo puffin whale watch, and had a good meal in the city at Public House GastroPub. We went to Seljalandsfoss Waterfall, Reynisfjara Beach, Glacier Lagoon Zodiak boat into the Lagoon, Diamond Beach across after before heading back. Download the Parka App to pay for parking in these attractions. Went in the other direction back to Keflavík to Blue Lagoon for a great spa type experience. Lastly, went to Landmannalaugar for a hike with even more amazing views! If you like the peace and quiet, relaxation, this is the cabin for you!

Perfection

The property has the absolute best view. It is in a great location, less than 10 minutes away from a well stocked mini grocery store and a reasonable ride away from a ton of fantastic adventures! The property was very private and we barely heard a neighbor the entire time we were there. There were very cool birds to watch from the porch and we even saw an arctic fox one night. The house was very well appointed for cooking. We loved the privacy of having the separate house and the beds and seating and water pressure were all great. Jon was fantastic and gave us a very warm welcome, as well as great recommendations. There were lots of amenities we appreciated like cooking spices, laundry detergent and plug adapters. We used the sauna quite a bit throughout our stay. We were extremely comfortable with three adults and two kids for nine nights. It was truly the perfect homebase, and they have other houses throughout Iceland we will definitely check out in the future. We’ve already recommended this house to friends, and could not have been happier with the accommodations. Thanks so much to Jon for the incredible hospitality!

Simply amazing

We spent a week at this beautiful property and we could not be happier to say that this was one of the best stays we ever had since we rent vacation properties! Stekkar is unbelievable. First of all the location: close to the little village of Fludir where we shopped daily at the local market, close to all the main locations you must see when you visit this part of Iceland and with a stunning view that fills up your soul with peace and harmony. Taking a bath in the tub outdoor while looking at the infinite green in front of you is priceless. Second, the house itself: Equipped with everything you need, even a.separate space for laundry with brand new washing and drying machines; large, warm and super cozy with a unique vibe and athmosphere; just stunning!!! The attention to details is spectacular, it shows how much the host cares about his guests and you feel immediately welcomed. The guest house just across the main house is a really helpful addition since it has another bathroom and a even a finnish sauna! And then, of course, there is our host Jon, kind and responsive, friendly and corteous. If you are travelling to this incredible part of the world don't miss the chance to stay here. 5 stars, all round! An extra tip: don't miss out the Fludir Tar....it is hard and exhausting to get up there but what you will find is an amazing view! Pasquale

Großartige Lodge

Wir waren im April 10 Tage in Island und waren mit der Unterkunft super zufrieden. Sehr gemütliches Haus mit allem was man braucht, top sauber, bequeme Betten und ein Hot Tub mit mega Aussicht. Auch der Kontakt zum Vermieter war sehr nett und unkompliziert. Klare Weiterempfehlung, wir würden jederzeit wiederkommen.

Sejour parfait !

Nous étions 4 adultes et 1 adolescent et nous avons passé 8 nuits à Stekkar Lodge en février 2025. Tout est parfait dans cette location ! Elle correspond en tous points à la description. Très bien équipée, rien ne manque ! Cerise sur le gâteau : les aurores boréales 4 soirs de suite sans bouger de la terrasse ! Le jacuzzi le soir après une journée de visite est un pur bonheur. La communication avec Jon a toujours été facile et rapide. L'Islande est un Pays magique. Séjourner à Stekkar Lodge aura fait partie de la magie !

Hooked on tourism, yet I studied automotive engineering in the University for Applied Sciences in Munich, Germany with the graduation Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Fahrzeugtechnik. After being technical director at the car inspection and type approval branch (MOT/TÜV) in Iceland for a few years I got more and more linked to the tourism, using my good knowledge in German, English and Swedish.
Tourist guide since 1983 and owner and operator of the tour agency Isafold Travel and the unique 4x4 rental Isak for 18 years.
Sold the whole business in 2015 to start up a new enterprise, Nordic Lodges. This company runs a few vacation rentals in various parts of Iceland, offering the concept "Roof 'n Route", which makes our lodges to "step stones" on your travel in Iceland.
Tourism and music are my hobbies, and that's where I'm now!
