We stayed from Saturday to Tuesday morning, and the view on the waterway was absolutely gorgeous. The scenery and calming water were truly the highlight of our stay. We also love Surf City, and the cottage itself was very cute, nicely decorated, and pet-friendly, which we appreciated.Unfortunately, a few issues led us to leave earlier than planned. The bed was very uncomfortable, sinking in the middle and extremely noisy and squeaky, feeling more like box springs than a supportive mattress. Sleeping through the night was difficult. For a stay of several nights, having in-house laundry would have been helpful, and there were not enough towels provided for two people. The house was also a bit chilly, and the shower had limited hot water and low water pressure. A handheld shower wand would have been especially helpful for me as an amputee, though we understand this is not the host’s responsibility.Overall, it was a lovely location with beautiful views, but we weren’t able to relax as much as we had hoped.

I did share this information with the host over 1 week ago & did not receive a response. After being charged a cleaning fee prior to our visit, I wanted to share a few things about our stay. 

This property has a lot of potential going for it, but it needs attention. Hopefully some improvements can help future guests have a better experience.Listed below are some of those things:- Both fans in living room were covered in dust at the top of the blades. This should have been taken care of when the house was “cleaned” before we arrived.- It didn’t smell clean in the house for having been “cleaned”.- No shampoo.- Bathroom fan doesn’t work.- The blinds on the back of the door need to be secured so they don’t slam around when you open/close the door.- Total of 2 towels, 2 wash cloths & 2 hand towels are not enough linens for a 5 night stay for 2 people. - Dirty silverware & pans were disgusting. - The lights above the island were covered in little bugs.- It was 30 some degrees outside & we had no heat on our last day. - Bed was uncomfortable & not level; holes in the bed sheets.- Wheel on the gate did not roll smoothly & needs to be adjusted so it’s easier to use.- The gate to open the door to the dock could use a small walkway/path.- Outside porch light by the door doesn’t work.- Found a cockroach in the house.- Fridge filter needed to be changed.- Keurig coffee maker needs attention - had “descale” light on.

Pretty nice. Great view. Wasn’t aware the wall AC units were on a timer. Several of the pots weren’t really clean. One set of bath linens for a person for a week was inadequate.

A little haven on earth.

This place is great the home was very clean the yard is great for pets loved the fenced in area very big. The view fantastic looking on the water way the moon light was to die for. The beach is just right down the road and the shopping stores right around the corner restaurants as well. My husband and I will go and stay there again for sure.

Fantastic Experience

We love the house (clean and renovated), the fenced backyard (for our dogs), the location (close to everything and nice neighbors), and the quick response (we needed one thing and it got delivered quickly). We would love to come back here for our next vacation!

Perfect!

This cottage was literally perfect for my significant other and me and our two doggies! The house was comfortable and well equipped. The fenced in backyard is lovely and perfect for the dogs to run and play. And the dock was so nice to sit at the end of the day and reflect. Very serene. Also Close to everything yet far enough to be away from the crowds. Perfect!

We instantly fell in love with the place. Very peaceful! Jeff & his wife brought us the best & largest fresh clams! He also gave us some gift cards to Surf City Line, which we highly recommend! We left some items behind & the team were very helpful in returning them to us. The only cons we had were that it would have been nice if the bush out by the fence was blocking our view. The bed was a bit to high for a couple of older folks like us, who are already moberly challenged. It was a bit of a tight squeeze getting to one side of the bed. The mattress was a bit too firm & had sank some in the center.Overall, we highly recommend this lovely little getaway for two! We may just have to plan another stay with Turtle Shell Vacation Rentals again! Thanks for sharing your beautiful place with us!!!!

Pup Perfect

A bit of a rocky start at check-in as we arrived after dark and could not see the keypad on the door. There was a lock box keypad on the side of the door, which is where we thought we needed to enter the code. Motion lights would’ve been helpful. Even though it was after hours, someone responded right away. Everything else at the house was perfect. We cooked a few times at the house and the kitchen was pretty well stocked with everything you need. The bed was a little soft for our liking and we wish we would’ve brought our own pillows but that’s all personal preference. Having a fenced yard to be able to open the door and let the pup out without worry was the number one asset to this property for us. Lots to do locally. Best restaurants for our taste were Rick‘s Restaurant (Topsail) and Cowfin. Peak Taphouse was a great place to stop in for a beer and a pizza. Would definitely rent this property again.

Thanksgiving Trip With Pups

Husband and I booked the cottage with our dogs to visit family for Thanksgiving week. The fenced in yard and beautiful views made for a relaxing time for all. Cottage is clean, comfortable and very cozy. We will book again on any future trips to the area.

Great stay

We had a great stay! This place had everything we needed and more. We enjoyed the dock. There were some lightbulbs out in the bathroom and kitchen but was not a big deal. We loved the view and the quiet. We will be back!

Best getaway

The house is prefect for 2. We took our 2 dogs. It's safe and secure for them. We fished from the dock and kayaks that are provided. Anything that was previously suggested by visitors was already updated or addressed. If I had a question, they responded quickly. We will definitely be back.

Perfect getaway

Location, clean,the view was marvelous, bush by deck could use a trim. The fenced in yard was a real plus. We enjoyed our stay very much. I would highly recommend staying here. Watching the bay was so relaxing. We even got to see a dolphin .

Just Perfect

This place was just perfect for me and my husband, and little fur baby. Our yorkie loved the fenced in yard. We had a blast fishing off the dock, and the beach was just a shirt ride 2e can't waiy to come vack!over the bridge.

A great spot, dog friendly and close to everything!

Cut short by the hurricane but was great overall! Location right on the water, our dog loved the fenced yard. We were close to everything we needed. Highly recommend to anyone looking to get away.

The pictures don’t do this little hideaway justice! It was beyond perfect for me and my pup! It’s right on the water and close to the beaches! The house had everything you’d need and more! I will most definitely book again!

Best Ever

We have fallen in love with this place! Best view and location. The house is so cute and perfect for 2 people and our dog! I don’t think my dog wants to go home either.
