Casa Rif - Contemporary townhouse with panoramic views

Casa Rif is a large detached townhouse at the front of the village of Cañar. It has a very large, private roof terrace (60m2) with shaded area, BBQ and quality lounge and dining furniture. Everything you need during your stay is close at hand - a well-stocked grocers, pharmacy and 2 excellent bars serving meals and tapas are all only a minute's walk from Casa Rif. Cañar is uniquely situated in the High Alpujarra - nearest village to Orgiva with all its amenities only 10 mins' drive away, yet also, at an altitude of 1150m , the house boasts open views that are truly unrivalled in the region to which no words/pictures could ever do justice. On a clear day, the Rif Mountains of Morocco can be seen. Cañar is totally unspoiled, with the famous GR7 walking route passing through the village, making it accessible to constantly changing scenery. Whether you're interested in walking, cycling, bird watching, riding, exploring further afield, or just relaxing in a totally tranquil environment, you can do as much or as little as you want.

Casa Rif is available to rent during the summer months, from May to October.

NOTE: guests have exclusive use of the roof terrace and facilities of Casa Rif. The lower floors are not available to rent.

Wonderful location to explore the Alpujarra region. Superb!

Casa Rif in Cáñar was a superb point for us to explore the Alpujarra region. We thoroughly enjoyed our time basing our stay in Casa Rif. It is close enough to all the beautiful towns of Capileria, Bubion, Panpameria, Trevelez, Laharon, etc and yet it was the perfect quiet little town to retreat to after a day out. Robin’s house is in a wonderful location in Cáñar, surrounded by many friendly locals and beautiful flowers. We encountered first hand the simple life of the villagers; tending to their horses, flowers, pets, fruit and nut trees. It is also a very central and convenient place for walks. We enjoyed GR-7 treks going westward towards Laharon and eastward to Soportujar right at our doorsteps. It is also a easy drive to Conchar where we enjoyed the Conchar Loop walk. Robin was a superb host, friendly and communicative. His recommendation of El Corral in capileria for dinner was spot-on - our best meal in Alpujarra. He also made good his promise of clear skies (after a few cloudy nights) for some awesome star gazing. Only thing he fell short of was that we didn’t see the Milky Way ! Thanks so much for a lovely unforgettable experience, Robin.

Nid d'Aigle en Andalousie !

Superbe appartement avec une vue magnifique. L'appartement est tout à fait conforme aux descriptions de l'annonce. Petite salle avec cuisine à l'américaine bien agencées, déco sympa avec quelques livres et DVD laissés par Robin (de bon choix mais en anglais), 3 chambres dont la parentale avec vue. A l'étage grande terrasse en partie couverte avec Jacuzzi qui a fait le bonheur de la famille le soir au retour de nos excursions. Le temps à Canar semble suspendu et il est très agréable de profiter de l'un des bistrots locaux pour un petit apéro ou un tapas. Nous avons également eu la chance d'y être pendant la fête annuel de Santa Ana qui anime complétement le village (attention à la fanfare le matin dans les rues... pour réveiller les fêtards ?!). Bref, séjour magnifique dans une région qui mérite d'être découverte... Un très bon plan ! Anna, Fabrice, Caroline et Anaïs.

Great apartment, great view

My wife and I are new to Las Alpujarras, and were looking for a quiet village house to use as a base for walking the GR7 without needing to get in the car too often for shopping and the occasional meal out. Canar fitted the bill. And the views from Casa Rif - the photos online really don’t do it justice. Extraordinary. The apartment had everything we needed, was very comfortable and the village shop is only a minute’s walk away. Robin is a good host, making us feel very welcome and on hand with any questions about what there is to see and do. Very much recommended.

Lovely stay beautiful location

Really lovely traditional property. Immaculately clean, with a beautiful roof terrace . We were there in winter so enjoyed the hot tub under the stars and the cozy fire in the living room. Canar is a lovely village...one of the friendliest in the area. It bustles with its own life but as It's up a windy ( but well made) road to just that village it is also very peaceful. Thoroughly recommend. Thanks Robin!

purement magnifique

nous avions louer a robin en 2012 cette magnifique maison et ses deux terasses avec son jacuzzi a 1400 metres de hauteur dans les nuages pour manger le soir... inoubliable c était nos premieres vacances en andalousie elles resteront a jamais les meilleures. le petit village vit en totale otarcie et le dépaysement est total aussi. je vous recommande cette location...merci robin la famille lopez

Brilliant place in beautiful settings

Our two weeks in Canar spent in November and December were fantastic. The house pleasant, the weather comfortable and sunny and the close by village Orgiva having a number of really good restaurants ensured that. And the views are truly stunning - we shall never forget them! Price is reasonable to begin with and with the absence of shopping opportunities it was a very reasonable holiday indeed. Enjoy!

Amazing stay in beautiful townhouse

My girlfriend and i arrived late after a delayed flight (after midnight) but Robin met us no questions asked and was both helpful and cheerful. Nothing was too much trouble for him and we felt relaxed instantly. On arrival to the apartment we were both very happy to see the place looked just as good in real life as it did in the photos. Also, the place was immaculate. We found the area very relaxing and enjoyed walking along the GR7 to the nearby villages. An added bonus was the wifi that Robin had just installed and the speed of the net was excellent. All in all we had a brilliant time and i wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone.

Certainly an escape!

This was our first time in Cañar and it was just what we needed following a hectic end to our school terms. The village itself is quaint and the locals are friendly when you starting chatting to them (well in pidgin-Spanish at least). As we were there in early April everything was relaxed and very quiet save the dogs, cats and other general sounds of the countryside. There are 3 bars of varying quality and a small shop for the basics (although a trip to Orgiva was needed for a more comprehensive stock up). Robin was very welcoming and helpful. He was keen for us to feedback to him about new aspects of the flat such as the wi-fi (which worked perfectly) and was forthcoming with information about the local area. The flat itself is a perfect balance of rustic and modern and provides plenty of space for relaxing. As we were only 2 in a space designed for a few more we were spoilt for space and we could definitely imagine returning with more people. The main attraction to the flat, other than the hot tub of course, was the view from either balcony or the bedroom window. It was breathtaking day and night and you had to double check you were sitting there having dinner in private with such a backdrop. As previously mentioned we would definitely return here as it is a great location just to relax, to go on walks and visit Granada. This was our first time to Andalucia and we are definitely fans! A wonderful mix of relaxation and recreation

We had a wonderful stay at El Nogal. Canar is lovely - you really feel you are in a 'proper' Spanish mountain village, occupied mainly by locals rather than visitors, and with a maze of small alleys running between densely arranged white houses that cling onto the hill slopes. The village shop seemed to have everything you might need and was open 7 days a week, and everyone we passed in the village seemed very friendly. El Nogal is a lovely apartment - light and airy, and with breathtaking views across to the hills to the south. We never tired of this view - appreciating it from first thing in the morning, through the french doors of our bedroom, to late at night while sipping wine on the balcony. The flat is extremely comfortable - basically having everything you could want but, more than that, furnished with great quality and care. This meant we had a lovely time just pottering around the apartment and balcony, relaxing and 're-charging our batteries', with no feeling that we wanted to rush off. Saying that, Canar is well-located to visit other attractions and, during our week, we visited Alhambra and Granada, walked up Veleta in the Sierra Nevada, and spent a day by the sea. But our preference was to spend about half a day walking along one of the many wonderful trails in the area (particularly enjoying following the acequia water channels) and about half a day relaxing in and around Canar. Our stay in Canar was made even more enjoyable for having been arranged very easily with Robin - as he always responded quickly to emails. He then made sure he was there to meet us when we arrived in Canar. This great service continued during the week when, after informing him by text on a Saturday evening that one of our gas bottles had emptied, he arrived at the door within half an hour with a replacement that he fitted. We couldn't fault anything. A couple of miscellaneous things to mention for info as we wondered beforehand are: a) we got perfect mobile signal at the apartment, including 3G internet access with Orange/EE (although we resisted checking our phones too frequently); and, b) the weather was absolutely gorgeous for us in mid October - about 20-25 degrees each day, although I understand that this might not be the case every year. So, in summary, a wonderful place, wonderful accommodation and wonderful service from Robin. For us, it was the perfect holiday break and we hope to return again another year.

Stunning views from peaceful apartment

La Estrella was everything it was promised to be and exactly as depicted in the photographs and descriptions, except that the view from the roof terrace is even better when you're actually standing there with a glass of wine in hand, watching the sun go down. The owner, Robin, is really friendly and helpful - he helped us with our bags at the beginning and end of our stay - and lives nearby, which is reassuring if any problems should arise - not that they did. The property was clean and tidy with plenty of towels provided, ample space for the 3 of us. In short, a superb place to stay, by far the best we've found in Andalucia and we hope to visit again.

Apartment On Top Of The World

This was our first visit to southern Spain, and we had a wonderful week in La Estrella - so relaxing with everything you could need very close to hand (bars and little shop in the square). Robin met us on our arrival day and gave us loads of information about things to see and do nearby. It was good to know he was nearby if needed. Most of all though - the views! They look good in the photos, but really, nothing can prepare you for the real thing - just incredible. For that alone - we'd love to come back. The apartment had everything we needed, but most of all we enjoyed looking at the stars from the hot tub in the middle of the night - in a word, amazing.

The views get better every morning!

This is the third time we have stayed in Robin's place La Estrella but shamefully the first time I have reviewed! This time we visited with my parents to celebrate their wedding anniversary. Sitting on the top terrace with a coffee and watching the eagles soar is just about as close to heaven as you can get. The apartment is so stylish, clean and comfortable you could stay there all day. But it's definitely worth visiting the friendly local bar for some great atmosphere and friendly villagers who delight in practising a few words of English. Robin couldn't be more helpful, suggesting the best places to park in Granada (about an hour away) and restaurants on the coast. I hope we will be back for the village fiesta next year.

On Top of the World Apartment.

2012 was a year I needed to find more solace, rest and recuperation. I fell in love with a small mountain village the year before, the minute I set eyes on it and felt that was the place for me.to go again. Two months in Cañar would do its magic for me. I got in touch with Robin of Alpujarraescape again and hey presto worked out a plan for 8 weeks in Robins apartments. La Estrella, the top apartment of 3,where I spent several weeks, was a delight to stay in. It has all you need for a super peaceful break in a friendly oldie world, yet modern where needed, Spanish village. There is a stunning view from the double bedroom, a balcony off the lounge for soaking up the mountain air while having your breakfast. The hot tub on the roof is just the thing ! be it day or night I loved it. To cool down during the day with superb views to enjoy while having your ice cream or sipping your ice cold drink. Of an evening definitely the place to be while watching the sun setting, the car lights on the mountain roads or just listening to the night sounds with your glass of wine ( A bottle supplied by your host) The table and chairs were great for lunch or dinner. The local food is excellent. The Thursday bus to Orgiva lets you enjoy the wonderful views all the way down and back. The fresh fruit and veg market is a great place to stock up on produce for your meals as is the local Cañar shop, open all hours it seems. I WILL be back.

Mountain Village Experience

La Estrella is in the remote village of Canar, in the heart of the Sierra Nevada uplands: a hill-walker's delight. The south-facing, sunny roof terrace has wonderful views down to the valley below and more mountains facing. In the hot-tub you can enjoy the stars and the night-sounds of nature and village life, whilst easing the limbs from the day's trek. The property is clean, has just about enough space for 4 people and is confortable, night and day. The kitchen is compact, works well, though perhaps if a little under-equipped ( as seems to be the tradition of holiday appartments in the area). there is a slight assumption you would eat the main meals in restaurants - which is entirely possible with the selection recommended by Robin. The photos of the different rooms and spaces in the property are very seductive - but they do represent the reality. Charming & attentive owner to complete the experience.

The silence is deafening.......

We were looking for peace and quitet with a nice bit of sunshine and this place was perfect. From the moment we booked we were shown very attentive personal service. the property was very clean and spacious, had everything that you need to be completely self sufficient and the hot tub is certainly a bonus! This place is great for walkers wanting to adventure in the Alpujarras or like us to get away from the stress of everyday life. Turn your phone off at the entrance to the village and unwind in the peace and tranquility. Fantastic!

La Estella July 2010

We have just returned from a fantastic week's holiday in Canar. We happened to pick the liveliest week of the year being the Fiesta for Saint Ana. The locals certainly know how to celebrate with music, fireworks , the brass band and lots of singing. Robin made us feel very welcome on arrival and explained what to see, expect and where to find things. The apartment is beautifully clean and has everything you could ask for.The views are breathtaking, the village people lovely, especially the lady in the local shop. It's not a holiday for the faint hearted. You certainly need to be able to speak some Spanish. We would certainly consider returning in a different season to compare our original experience.

A real gem

We had a fantastic week. Canar is authentic Spain and we certainly got a chance to put our ropey Spanish into practice. The area is beautiful and great for walking and good food. La Estrella is a wonderful place to stay and relax - particularly with the roof terrace and hot tub. The house is really well equipped and has maps and walking books which we made good use of. Robin was very welcoming and helpful - giving lots of local info and tips. Overall we'd highly recommend this charming property and village for a great getaway.

Great value for money!

We stayed in this apartment over Christmas and the weather was just awful! However we were lovely and comfortable and had everything we needed for a relaxing break. There was plenty of heating so we managed to stay warm and the owner couldn't have been more helpful. The hot tub was great and when the weather cleared enough for us to see it, the view from the roof terrace was fantastic. All in all, the apartment offered good value for money and we would happily recommend it.

A great holiday

What a wonderful week! This holiday has been a very different and special one, due to the lovely people from Cáñar, the spectacular views, the beautiful location... We have been very impressed with the comfortable, clean, spacious and charming accommodation, finding we had everything we could have wanted for. And what could be more perfect than to spend wonderful family evenings sitting on the roof-terrace under the most starlit sky we have ever seen? A big thanks, and we will certainly be back.
