Jose is a friendly and engaging host, who did everything to see to our comfort. The apartment is well-appointed and equipped with everything you could want. Just like being in someone’s home. The location is near every service you could want, but is a bit of a walk to any real attractions, including up a steep hill. We loved staying in this apartment and would stay there again.

Lovely apartment and attentive host.

Great apartment, lots of space, very well equipped and comfortable, felt like a home not just a rental holiday apartment. Jose was an excellent host, made sure we were comfortable and happy to offer advice and make bookings for us.

Home away from home

Favorite things: Record player, various choices of music ranging from the awesome 80's to jazz and of course Portugese. The layout and flooring to the careful touches of design, was well thought out and cozy. The book collection was substantial and eclectic. The small but thoughtful touches were many from robes, to the coffee, the almond chocolates and the reservation for a beautiful and memorable night watching the Rainha Santa Isabel(Holy Queen Isabel) festival with the grand procession:) Thank you Jose, you and your kind wife made our stay very memorable!

Wonderful Visit

Property is immaculate, very well equipped and beatifully furnished with authentic Portuguese furniture and decorationd.Location is ideal very near the centre and University and not far from the magnificent River Mondego with its riverside walks.The host couldn't have been more helpful and attentive with very useful advice for everything from wine to hairdressers. and eas and University

Great apartment with fantastic host

Excellent kitchen Generous pantry staples provided and welcome goodies like wine, port chocolate nuts, and fruit. Jose was very attentive. We found the walk down town was easy and to offset the walk back uphill in the heat, the buses were cheap and easy to use.. Thanks for a great stay Jose

Absolutely ALL the Comforts of Home

The apartment is beautifully and comfortably furnished. The owners are sophisticated and international but connected to Coimbra by birth and association. Generous, they are the perfect bridges between cultures. Wonderful experience!

Amazing stay Coimbra - home away from home

This property had everything from an extensive LP selection, beautiful artwork, and quality touches, to a welcoming decanter of port, chocolate nuts, and wine!. Well-equipped kitchen and laundry. Best of all is Jose, the host, a true gentleman. Nothing was too much trouble for him in helping us to enjoy our stay in Coimbra. We can't speak highly enough of him, from pre-arrival and throughout our stay. We really look forward to returning and enjoying this excellent home away from home. Thank you Jose

Going to Coimbra? - Stay here!!!

Of all the places my wife and I have been in Portugal this is by far one of the best we've stayed in yet! Jose, the owner, is a chill and extremely helpful/attentive host. Just based on him we'd give 5 stars. Now, let's talk about the place. Like other reviews we also enjoyed the port, wine and chocolates that were offered. We absolutely loved listening to the vast array of records. From the 80's to the Jazz greats, Jose's got em'. The place is super well appointed, spacious and close to all that Coimbra has to offer and within walking distance of restaurants, groceries, pharmacies and beautiful sites. We will be back to Coimbra in the next year and have every intention of staying here again.

a wonderful 12 days in a cosy, welcoming apartment with marvellous, attentive host

I rented this apartment to be with my daughter who has been living here. She was heavily pregnant; her room where she lives was being renovated with a delay, so unexpectedly she joined me. Our wonderful, kind, thoughtful host Jose welcomed both of us. The apartment is in a quiet neighbourhood near the university and with a nice local restaurant, Arco, and decent supermarket nearby. The apartment is beautifully renovated and decorated, with charming traditional-style inlaid wooden furniture, beautiful sheets, great wifi and tv channels, attractive paintings, a very comfy sofa and chairs, dining room, and a cute,well-equipped kitchen. The bathtub was very nice to have. We walked to the downtown several times and also took Ubers, which are not expensive by UK standards. Unforgettable and memorable. We will not forget our host's kindness and considerateness. I hope to rent this apt again some day.

A home away from home.

We have found a gem in Coimbra. We come to visit our son,daughter-in-law and new granddaughter and happily have discovered a new home away from home to come to in Portugal. This was our third visit and are planning to always return. The owners are warm and welcoming hosts and have equipped the apartment with everything that one would need to make your stay comfortable. They are gracious hosts always willing to assist in any way possible and still giving you all the privacy that you need. You are located in a great neighborhood with easy street parking,nearby grocery store and nearby coffee shops such as the Venus Pastry Shop. The apartment is clean, bright,well maintained and beautifully appointed with wonderful antiques and paintings throughout. We cannot wait to return.

Everything you need

We (4 adults) stayed in this comfortable and well - equipped apartment for 10 days. The kitchen was the BEST in any apartment we have stayed in and the "vinyl" collection was amazing! The welcome pack was a kind extra on our host's part. Jose was the perfect host and pointed us in the direction of interesting places to visit and, also, to taste wine. Coimbra is a beautiful city with so many antiquities. It is also easy to reach larger places by the direct and fast train service. If we should visit Portugal again we would certainly return to this apartment and have no hesitation in recommending it to others. The only negative thing I have to say is that the bed in the second bedroom could be larger.

Warm and Welcoming!

The best part of our stay in Coimbra was Jose and his hospitality. He is a gracious host and a caring person. Communication with Jose was easy and he truly wants his guests to enjoy their time in Coimbra. He offered many helpful suggestions for restaurants and the best sights to see. He also knows where to go to find Portuguese hand painted ceramic swallows! We were able to spend time walking around the city and to drive out of the city for other places to see. At the end of the day it was nice to come home to a comfortable “home away from home”. Everything we needed was in the house for preparing small meals. The washing machine was very important to us because we had been traveling for a few weeks. This was definitely a good find!

Treated like a guest!

If you are lucky enough to be in Coimbra and lucky enough to stay in this apartment you are lucky enough. Everything you could need and more. At the end of the day you do not say let’s go back to the hotel or the apartment. You say let’s go home. And that would be enough for 5 stars. But the best is Jose! If you were a good friend visiting I doubt he would be more helpful. He gracious and generous of spirit, sharing information and his time. He genuinely cares that you have the best time possible in his city and country. A very lucky find for us! Obrigada, Jose!

Coimbra for 10 days

This property is exactly as described. All your needs from pots to hair dryer are there, just walk in and use it. We used Coimbra as a base for touring the area and it works well. Nothing is further than 1 1/2 to 2 hours away, Porto airport, the coast, the inland towns. The town traffic is like many other European cities, somewhat confusing. GPS is helpful. The owner of the apartment lives nearby and is the best host one could wish for. He gave us map information and local restaurant, grocery store information long before we arrived. Once there he was truly helpful with any information we needed about northern Portugal. He is fluent in English and I am sure in other languages as well. He was in contact almost daily either by phone or by dropping by and advised us on our touring decisions, restaurants etc.(and he found us some excellent restaurants) He is very helpful without being intrusive. Maybe it was because he was on vacation himself while we there (August), but I am sure he will be just as helpful at any other time. Coimbra itself is a university and a working town so is not a tourist town per se (although it has some attractive features) but for our 10 day stay it worked well (with the excellent help from Jose!)

Schön gelegene, gemütliche Wohnung

Die Wohnung ist gross, vom Vermieter sehr persönlich eingerichtet und sehr gut ausgestattet. Sie liegt in einem ruhigen Wohnviertel. Ganz in der Nähe gibt es viele Geschäfte, einschliesslich Bio-Supermarkt, in denen man alles für den täglichen Bedarf findet. José, der Vermieter, ist ausgesprochen aufmerksam, hilfsbereit und herzlich. Wir haben unseren Aufenthalt sehr genossen und können diese Unterkunft wärmstens empfehlen!

I can't say enough good things about both the property and the host, Jose. The apartment was very comfortable, well maintained and fully stocked with everything you might need. Jose, the host, was so kind and helpful. He had suggestions for sights to see and places to eat. Anything we needed help with he was willing and happy to assist. The location was convenient to everything including cafes, restaurants, the old city, and the University.

Jose Our stay was brilliant, the apartment perfectly presented and your assistance most welcome. With shopping, including supermarket and patisserie, at a 3 minute walk was extremely convenient. stylish, comfortable and welcoming!

This is an exceptionally well presented apartment with everything that a holiday maker could ask for! I really appreciated the attention paid to little details such as beautiful linen, antique furniture, well equipped kitchen and lovely styling of the rooms. It is more a home from home than a bland holiday rental. Jose's knowledge of what to see in Coimbra, where to eat, ect was invaluable and he was a welcoming and well informed host. The apartment is not in the centre of Coimbra but in a leafy suburb with good bus links direct to the station, and it is only a twenty minute walk into town. There is a row of excellent local shops for fresh food, and cafes serving cakes and light meals. Coimbra hills are steep so getting to know the bus routes proved useful although taxi fares are not expensive. Coimbra is a fascinating city, even more so when outside of the main tourist area, and we found plenty of small traditional restaurants. A short walk down the hill is the delightful Quim Dos Ossos, with simple basic meaty food! After a busy day we really appreciated the peace and quiet of the apartment. I would highly recommend this place, it is very spacious for two people and can easily accomodate four. Thank you very much Jose for making our holiday so special!

A smart comfortable apartment easy reach of city.

Completely and adequately furnished, spotlessly clean and with easy access to over 30 restaurants. The owner, who lives downstairs, provided exemplary care and attention. The Skype conversation with him beforehand was very useful and reassuring. I would strongly recommend this property to anyone.

Séjour à Coimbra du 30 mai au 6 juin 2017. Séniors français. Nous avons passé une merveilleuse semaine à Coimbra dans ce bel appartement très très bien équipé, spacieux, confortable ; un lieu où l'on aime rentrer après une journée de visites. Bien que situé dans le centre, près des commerces, aucun bruit ne vous dérange et vous garez votre véhicule sans difficulté. A cela, il faut ajouter l' extrême gentillesse de José, le propriétaire. Nous avons vraiment apprécié son accueil chaleureux avec déjà des petits cadeaux de bienvenue, son souci de rendre notre séjour riche et agréable. Il anticipe vos questionnements et vous propose avec élégance une aide discrète mais efficace pour vos projets. Ajoutons qu'il est ouvert à tout sujet de conversation dans un français très compréhensible. Un vrai bonheur cette semaine à Coimbra, tant par la richesse touristique de la ville et de ses environs que par le séjour chez José. Nous recommandons sans réserve cette location! Great apartment! Great host!

It was a very nice apartment in a quiet, attractive neighbourhood. Comfortable and easy to settle in to, it had everything we wanted or needed and was tastefully decorated with some beautiful antique furniture. It was in a good location for exploring Coimbra and other points of interest in the area. Jose, our host, was very helpful. He had offered advice when we were planning our trip and gave us some good suggestions. He spent time introducing us to the apartment and gave us guidance as to how to best organize our time to take in all the sights. He also provided some unexpected extras - wine, port, fruit, supplies, as well as some favorite Portuguese treats that were all greatly appreciated. Jose treated us like guests in his own home. He was genuinely pleased that we had enjoyed our stay.

Jose is a warm & friendly host.

This apartment is personalized with Jose's antiques, books, and even a turntable. Everything is clean and comfortable. Welcome gifts for left for us. The kitchen is well equipped and rather large. It's important to know the second bedroom is really for one person, not an adult couple. The bed is slightly larger than a twin. We did enjoy ourselves and José was an attentive host.

In the heart of town, no need to commute and it is even possible to go home for your lunch break! Besides, it has a beautiful garden and the whole building has been redone recently.
