Great Getaway Cabin

We enjoyed our winter getaway here! The cabin was clean and well stocked. It had all the kitchen essentials plus a lot of entertainment items - the game room upstairs, books, puzzles, and DVDs. It’s lower on the mountain so the views are so-so and neighbors are close-ish but it does mean less steep mountainous roads to get to the cabin and a quick trip to town. We didn’t encounter any issues during our stay which required contacting the rental agency but they were very welcoming when we stopped by at our initial arrival.

Chalet had everything we needed for our short two day stay. It was close to downtown. Driveway is very steep. We made sure to back in so we could get out. Would not recommend driving a car.

The chalet was neat as a pin and had everything we needed for the stay. We've stayed with Mountain Laurel a dozen times or more - we love the friendly staff and the extra touches they provide. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I’m so glad we booked Winter Haven. The chalet was very cozy and suited our needs. We were hoping to see a bear from the safety of one of the balconies but never did. Staff at Mountain Laurel Chalets were very accommodating and it was so nice to be able to use the bypass and not have to travel through downtown Gatlinburg. The only negative to the trip is that driving a car, I couldn’t avoid bottoming out my car when entering or exiting the driveway, no matter what angle I tried. The first night we were there, the stereo system randomly turned on at midnight, but we embrace the little thrills/scares LOL! The Chalet was very clean and the furniture was comfy! We would definitely stay again - just next time with a SUV that won’t scape up my leased vehicle.

Convenient Location for a Long Weekend Getaway

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: This rental was the perfect size for my partner and me seeking a long weekend getaway in the mountains. The location was excellent being close (5-10 minutes) to downtown Gatlinburg but still far enough up the mountain to provide some peace and quiet with good (not great) views. The driveway is rather steep so if the forecast is particularly wet/icy I would exercise some caution. Even in an SUV, a couple of times we scraped the bottom of our vehicle pulling out. The rental was spacious and well appointed for two people, though I would not have wanted to stay there with any more people than that. The rental itself was clean, however perhaps a little worse for wear. It looked as though there had been some updates (flooring and fixtures), though corners had definitely been cut wherever possible. If you’re looking for an updated cabin/chalet this probably isn’t for you. Paint was peeling on the exterior and the porch and decks appeared to be in need of some rehabilitation. There was some visible mold on the bathroom walls and the downstairs shower and toilet were a bit slow to drain. Additionally, it seemed as though the hot water heater was either old or undersized as the hot water seemed to be running out by the time two people had showered and there wasn’t enough to fill the jacuzzi tub even half way before the water began to run cold. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay even with these minor issues. Checkin/checkout were easy and I really appreciated the health and safety considerations taken by the management company. We have rented properties from Mountain Laurel before and will certainly do so again.

Lovely week in the woods

The cabin was fine. It had everything we needed. The hot tub and the pool table were the high points for me. As with many cabins in the mountains, going to and from is the hardest part, but by the last day (of course) we were able to navigate with ease. We will come here again.

The chalet smelled terribly of wood smoke, so much that we had to open several windows. We had to do this every time we returned to the chalet. Also, there is an animal living in the walls of the bedroom/bathroom. It was so loud that is woke us up, it was very unsettling. We would not want to use this chalet again, or recommend it.

Was our favorite place & now I'd never recommend

It used to be our favorite. Absolutely not anymore. The place was covered in flies and at night we heard either rats or squirrels in the attic and in the walls near the master bed. Never again would I stay here which is a shame considering we have stayed at this house over 5 times in the past few years.

We had to leave to let them clean it. The left us two wash clothes, two hand towels an d 6 towels. This place had two bathrooms! Luckily we found two dirty was clothes on the floor of the room. I washed washed them so we would have more. They did not give us their complementary wood for the fireplace. The maintenance guys came the next day with 3 packs all Wet! We were never able to make a fire! The electricity went ou the second day because of the snow storm. We carefully left for the night and went to a hotel! Their rules in writing state that we are not responsible! We did leave a day early, because of another storm! Because of the time we cancelled we didn’t have to pay for the last night. I am waiting for my refund now. It probably takes a few days.

The only negative thing about the stay was that there was a critter running around in the walls and ceiling at night. When talking with the company they immediately sent out pest control but all pest control could do was set out traps so we had to learn to live with the critter during our stay.

A Great Place to stay in the Smokies

The location was ideal to get to the National Park as it avoided the traffic in downtown Gatlinburg. Check in and check,out were seamless. We’d highly recommend this chalet when traveling to the Smokies. We’ll be back.

Winter Haven Cabin

Nice cabin. Great staff. The only problem was the walnut trees. I now have about 20 dents on my car from the nuts falling. Manager did give us a heavy blanket to put over the car but it is going to cost about 500 dollars to fix. No one offered any compensation which was disappointing.

Wonderful Place

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: I was hesitant to stay at a place without mountain views but I was just as satisfied. My only wish would have been more waterproof covering over the main first floor deck. You couldn't enjoy the outside since the water came through the upper deck floor. Thankfully, the hot tub roof was solid so I could listen to the rain while warming up in the excellent tub.
