Summer construction at Timberline disrupted the perfect serenity some, but with Dolly Sods so close, it was easy to escape into the wilderness.

Hike the dolly sods

Could not be a better location for hiking dolly sods, the house was large enough for a family of 6 and even though it was just my wife and I, we could have easily invited another couple and been very comfortable

We got to experience it during a very snowy January, and all 4 of us where very comfortable there, plenty of beds to go around, and a super nice view from the windows and deck. The kitchen had everything we needed, which saved on meals out.

Beautiful cabin in thr heart of the woods!

We took 2 nights backing with a family of 6 from this cabin. It was a gtreat adventure without being toomuch for children ages 10-17.

Quiet, restful, getaway

The house was clean and comfortable. Nestled in the woods, while there are other houses nearby, you cannot see them and mostly you don't hear them either. It is not far from Dolly Sods, Blackwater Falls, Senaca Rocks and so it is great for the hiker. We also enjoyed the fourth of July celebration in the little town of Thomas. All in all a great vacation.

Siblings reunion

This was the first time we stayed at this property, and we hope to come back. The house was spacious and clean. It rained the whole time we were there, with a few breaks of clear weather, but it didn't matter. Being tucked into the woods with windows all around made it feel like we were outdoors. There is a great deck that can be accessed from the kitchen or master bedroom. We would definitely stay there again.

Wald Haus was a perfect place to spend that time hiking, reading, entertaining out-of-state guests, and watching sunsets. Out 3-year-old labradoodle also enjoyed the visit.We especially loved the deck and house sitting room -- views of trees and deer.The house was very accommodating. As vegetarians, it can be challenging finding restaurants... but Milo's in Davis offered a delicious option.

One of our yearly stay’s in Old Timberline

One of our yearly visits to the valley staying in Old Timberline was nice and enjoyable with the family and granddaughter. The fishing was great in the Trout Pond and Spruce Island Lake. Enjoyed the house and all the decorative decor. The weather was perfect, only rained on Friday a little while, we didn’t even have to wear a coat or jacket. We love Best of Canaan for our rental company, they are the best.. We are looking forward to the next trip in the valley this fall..

The neighborhood was safe and convenient to lots of great activities including ski slopes, golf course, restaurants, and hiking. There is even a trail into Dolly Sods in the neighborhood! We enjoyed watching wild turkeys in the yard from the comfort of the couch and cozy fireplace. We can’t wait to return and couldn’t recommend this house and rental agency more. Everything from check-in to check-out was smooth and easy. The COVID precautions and cleanliness of the space helped make for a relaxing and safe stay!

Perfect Getaway

The layout of the two upper bedroom with loft is very nice giving everyone some privacy. The kitchen lacked storage space for personal items. Recommend you bring a large tight closing storage bin for personal food items unless you want to share them with Mickey Mouse and his family. There is a large mud room next to kitchen which was a lifesaver for personal kitchen item storage and in keeping house clean from tracking mud and leaves inside.

Mountain Biking the Canaan Valley

House is “as advertised”. Listing was accurate. The two sun rooms are amazing. Deck is a nice area to spend time as well. In close proximity to Canaan Valley State Park (7 minutes) and about 17 minutes from Davis. There’s a well stocked grocery store in Davis. They have a nice selection of local beers there. Or take a short walk to Stumpstown Brewery from the grocery store. We are not used to picking up keys for rentals. Most places have lock boxes. But, you have to practically drive by the rental agency to get to the property. So… no big deal. It’s a gated community so no riff raff and the neighboring houses are almost invisible with the foliage. An added bonus… a short drive to the top of development gives you access to Dolly Sods. There’s a great lookout point a short walk from where you park up top. Great for sunsets.

Wonderful Wald haus

Reviewer Comments: We have stayed in many homes on Old Timberline over the past 24 years.This was our first long weekend spent at Wald Haus. Since we travel with our furry companion, choices are limited. We prefer homes near the top with a view and in walking distance to the trails, however none were available to us. This home was very well suited for our group of 8 and we would definitely happily rent this home again upon return. The house set up is a bit strange with the master bedroom between the two living areas, but we managed that just fine. The living area with the hardwood floors on the corner is a delight! The TVs are new, which the younger crowd was delighted to see, so they are HDMI compatible, bring your chords to attach media. Wifi was off and on which is probably the case in all of the houses. We hiked a 8.8 mile trail from the top of Old Timberline, the longest day hike ever for us. It was wet, but gorgeous! Hiking trails for Dolly Sods are now available online. We fished in the lake, but not as much luck as usual. I saw some VERY LARGE fish, think river monster size, so perhaps it's being taken over by carp? This was also our first time renting from Best of Canaan.They were wonderful.

Perfect Family Escape

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our family rented this home for our 3 night Thanksgiving vacation in this area. We were a party of 7: 4 adults and 3 children. This was a VERY spacious place, with ample space for everyone both while we slept and when we spent out Thanksgiving there. There are 3 bedrooms, two gorgeous living rooms (with floor to ceiling windows overlooking the wilderness) and a large kitchen/dining room area. Two of the bedrooms are on the top floor with a bathroom on that floor and a large hallway containing a sofa bed should that be needed. The main floor contains the master bedroom, with it's own bathroom as well as an additional bathroom (3 total in the whole place). The kitchen had everything you could possibly need to prepare all of your meals (as I said, we celebrated Thanksgiving and all pots, pans, etc... needed were available). There were ample towels, sheets and blankets and there is a washer and drier in the entry way. The driveway was plowed for us prior to our arrival and the setting was idyllic and we saw several deer, various birds and other wild life. I would strongly recommend this place to anyone exploring the area. The closest major store (Shop and Save in Davis) is a 15 min drive away. We checked in after 5pm, so needed to call in advance to make arrangements to get the key. We travel extensively and this was one of them most enjoyable accommodations I have stayed in. Our party was able to spread out when we needed to get out of each other's hair and sit together when it suited us. We were 3 generations (grandparents, parents and children) and it was perfect for everyone. When there was a dispute over what we would watch, we just went into the other living room and watched the other movie in there, so everyone was happy.

Plenty of space to relax

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Our first stay here was in March to ski at Timberline. It was fun to return and visit during the warmer September weather. House has everything you could need for your stay. I recommend bringing tinfoil to line the old cookie sheets and plastic wrap for any leftovers. The patio was great for our toddler and dog to enjoy the fresh air and scenery without running off. Both large TVs have Netflix for streaming tv shows and movies (you’ll need your login info). There is WiFi but it tended to be slow and cut out at times while surfing the web, even after resetting it twice. The beds are comfy, bathrooms nice and clean. The Timberline-exclusive trailhead just outside Dolly Sods was awesome for taking a short hike to the top and walking down the Valley View Trail. We enjoyed playing cards at the large table, watching the setting sun through the trees, and taking in the crisp evening air.Unfortunately, the condition of the house went downhill since our last visit and we were quite disappointed to find a number of broken items (dishwasher rack, disposal, numerous lightbulbs). The rental agency was quick to replace the battery in our smoke detector that started beeping the evening after we arrived (that was a rough night). A number of improvements would go a long way towards increasing the rental experience:-Replacing the missing window screens and putting in screen doors to the patio would really help with ventilation. Replacements screens are still being made.-Due to higher humidity and lack of ventilation in the back living room, there is mold high up on the walls. Increasing ventilation and putting in a dehumidifier would really help. We avoided that room.-Weather stripping at bottom of the doors needs replacing. Creepy crawlies were finding their way in.-Owners should remove the trunk from the large bedroom. It is full of mothballs and makes the bedroom and adjacent rooms smell awful. We stuck it outside on the patio during our stay.
