Sweet Fern Cottage, enjoy the seclusion and peace of the Appalachian Mountains.

Sweet Fern Cottage is nestled into the foot of Jacks Mountain. Your private 117 acres of wilderness awaits. Spring fed stream flowing into a small man made pond. Take in the fresh air while sipping coffee on the large wrap around porch. Enjoy the sounds of a babbling stream, birds singing, turkey's gobbling, and maybe catch a glimpse of a variety of wildlife or take in the night sky perfect for stargazing. The cottage is centrally located to many of Pennsylvania's attractions - an hour of Harrisburg, Williamsport, Penn State University. Within 40 minutes of Woodward Camp and 30 minutes of Bucknell and Susquehanna Universities. We welcome you to come and experience the beauty of Pennsylvania.

We stayed at the cabin for a weekend to do some local hiking and just get away a little and it was a perfect place to stay. The cottage was stocked well with all you need for cooking. It was very clean and just overall relaxing. Id highly recommend.

We enjoyed this cabin in May 2025 for our 1st annual girls trip so much we booked it again and of course we were not disappointed!! We love the covered porch and spent 90% of our time on it! We’ll be back next May!!

We had a wonderful weekend at Sweet Fern Cottage. This was the cleanest VRBO we have stayed in. We really enjoyed the outdoor fire pit. There were plenty of hikes in the area for us and our dog to enjoy. We made a mistake (our fault) during a late check in which required us to contact the owners, who were incredibly kind and gracious and all-around wonderful people. I can't overemphasize enough the genuine kindness they showed us. We would love to come back!

Beautiful home. Easy check-in process. Hosts were great. Everything you could possibly need is provided. Grocery stores were close. We loved Jack Mountain Freeze. Good food and delicious ice cream.. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. So much so that we are coming back in the fall.

Awesome place to stay

Our stay at the house was wonderful. The hosts have thought of everything! The house was spotless when we arrived. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, storage bags, utensils, and more. The outdoor space was beautifully landscaped and designed for family fun. We would rent it again when we are in the area.

Absolutely beautiful

Stunning, beautiful, cozy, clean and warm!! We wanted peace and quiet for a few days and that’s just what we got!! So much tranquility and coziness at the cabin!! We booked it again in a few months!! Very thought out in design and amenities! Would definitely recommend this cabin to all!!

2nd stay

This was my 2nd visit and I made it our first annual girls weekend!! We all had a blast and sat on the front porch 80% of our stay!! Loved we had some rain, a breeze and sunshine and it wasn’t cold out! We plan to make this our annual ‘go to’ cabin. Had everything we needed, except food of course but we took plenty of that! We all the the rustic feel of this cabin and it was so peaceful!

Weekend getaway

The home was absolutely beautiful and wonderfully appointed. We loved the solitude yet good location. We went out for lunches and site seeing and then back home to the dogs and relaxation. Out only comment is to provide a few more knives that are not serrated for cutting items that need that kind of knife. Fabulous place!!!! Thank you so much for hosting us!

Penn State Weekend

We stayed at this amazing cabin for a Penn State football weekend. The pictures do not do this property justice. It is beautifully decorated, clean and the owners did not spare any expense when they renovated the house. Plenty of space to spread out. The owners were easy to work with and were available to anwer any questions.

Once you make the turn onto the gravel path, the promise of a peaceful retreat focuses your attention ahead, and after just a short drive through the woods, the cottage appears, to welcome you to your (sadly temporarily) respite from the world. Solidly rebuilt from its humble beginnings and impeccably designed and decorated, this vacation experience is one which takes only a short time to register as a definite to repeat. Whatever the weather conditions dictate, there are so many opportunities to maximize your stay - slow down the conversation while rocking on the front porch and listening to the quiet sound of nature, enjoy a campfire by the pond, stretch your smile muscles with a fun family night of games, and if you do want to venture out, there are plenty of small wonders to explore within driving distance. Inside the cottage, everything is so new and well-taken care of, I even found it relaxing to make sure I kept up with its sparkle and shine! Michele and Jim have generously shared this dream and provided for you to leave for home with a slower pulse and refreshed spirit.

Cozy, clean, and secluded!

We traveled to the area for a disc golf match. The local courses are nice! The house is very nice, clean, and accommodating. It is tucked away in the forest, making it a very peaceful and charming stay! The welcome note and basket was a perfect touch! The hosts are super sweet and responsive. We enjoyed going to L&L market for groceries; the prices are great! We also really enjoyed dinner and beers at Rusty Rail Brewing. The spinach artichoke dip and fish & chips are 10/10. For coffee, we visited The Old Mill Coffeehouse - the coffee was good! We will definitely stay at this cabin again if we return to the area in the future!

It is a magnificent property. The cabin is nicer than our home and we take great pride in our home. It is totally secluded. Beautiful little pond with a gurgling Brook next to it. Beautiful porch. We enjoyed the solitude.

Seclusion in the mountains

Upon arrival the first thing I noticed was how clean the cottage was. The cottage is secluded and is in a very quiet area. The cottage is located close to antique stores, wineries, children's museum in Lewisburg and also a few playgrounds for the kids. The cottage has a great kitchen and also has toys for the kiddos. We loved it so much even the grandkids didn't want to leave. My wife and I are planning returning in either the fall or winter.
