Oak Hill Retreat

Oak Hill Retreat is located just outside Decorah. It is minutes away from the world famous Toppling Goliath Brewery. But there is SO much more to explore in Decorah! Did you know we have 3 waterfalls? This house is the definition of eclectic cozy. I have spent the last 6 years finding the right mix of color and light to give this space its unique personality. Staying here gives you the peace and quiet of the country but you are just minutes from town. Each bedroom has its own private bath.
Main floor bedroom has a private bathroom with shower/tub right across the hall way. Upstairs bathroom has an attached bathroom with a shower. Each bedroom has a queen bed in it and a full closet. Note: I do live in the basement, but it is a separate apartment. There is no shared space.
You will have access to a full kitchen, dining and living room. There are two queen bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The upstairs also has a sitting area with a desk.
Note: This house is located on a gravel road, so please be weather aware. Property has three exterior cameras.

This was the PERFECT getaway for a babymoon! We were able to unplug and enjoy each other’s company before we welcome our little one. Elise was very easy to communicate with and I will definitely be trying to plan another trip back soon! We loved having a little outdoor friend to pet too :)

Family vacation

Wonderful, quiet location near town. Lots of space for the kids to spread out. We cooked most of our meals and found the kitchen to be very functional.

Great peaceful location

We loved staying at this quiet, country location that was still close enough to places we wanted to go like Toppling Goliath and downtown. The local kitty cat came to visit us and was very friendly and inviting! We enjoyed the peace of no TV and had fun with the locals when we went looking for the football game to watch. We would stay again anytime and highly recommend.

We had a great time & will be back next year. This quaint home was a close drive to downtown Decorah. Many shops and restaurants to choose from. Great meals and coffee. Our host was amazing & the property was beautiful. Spacious home where we could each have a separate bedroom & bath! :)

comfortable house in a nice location

Comfortable and fun country house in a beautiful setting. Close to Decorah and Toppling Goliath. If you stay at a lot of VRBOs, the accommodations are a tad spartan compared to the standard so come prepared. There are no TVs, which I should have expected, but also be ready to bring your own soap, shampoo, and coffee. Entry was easy and the wi-fi works great.

This house is lovely - and spacious-the proprietor has done a wonderful job of making it cozy and welcoming-beautiful artistic touches everywhere. Just a couple of comments - maybe some more kitchen things- a few good Tupperware type containers for leftovers, a couple more pots and pans and a list/book with instructions about turning on the shower, heater, air conditioning, microwave, etc. We so enjoyed our trip here- it made the adventure so much better to have this great place to land at the end of the day!

Winter getaway

We stayed here at the beginning of January for a little couple’s getaway, along with our dog. Despite being really cold this weekend, the floors were somehow really warm which was awesome! The property is just far enough away from town to be convenient but private. The only things I would want to “upgrade” so to speak would be to put a king size bed in the downstairs bedroom. There’s plenty of space but the bed felt a bit small and neither me or my fiancé are tall people. We also would have appreciated a TV since there’s only so much we can do outside or in town in the middle of winter, but understand it was probably intentionally omitted :) Overall a nice stay and nothing that would absolutely keep us from staying here again.

The property was in a nice location , however the cleanliness was very poor , as the weeds were overgrown , the entrance to the home looked like it hadn’t been swept in months and the windows were so dirty you couldn’t tell if it was raining or not . I just think the money that’s being charged could have been invested in those kinds of things. And possibly a Tv or maybe a radio or wall clock would have been helpful . And what’s with the bed mattresses lying on the floor

Thank you for the feedback. I was gone on vacation during your stay, so the weeds were bound to be a little out of control. That is what it’s like living in the country in Iowa in the middle of the summer. I also mention in my listing that this property is on a gravel road - which is why the windows are dirty. Again, that’s what it is like living in the country in Iowa in the middle of the summer. The mattresses are not on the floor, they are on box springs. I chose to put more money into comfortable mattresses instead of fancy bed frames. My home continues to be something I’m working on, so I’m on the lookout for the right bed frames - I just haven’t found them yet. I will take the rest of your suggestions into consideration. Thank you!
