The Owlery at Sugar is a unique 3 story mountain chalet with 2 decks that sits at the base of Sugar Mountain. This home provides level entry. On the main floor, you will find a completely updated kitchen, dining area with views of the mountains, living area with a wall of windows allowing plenty of natural light, tongue, and groove ceilings with exposed beams, ceiling fan, stone gas log fireplace, and large smart TV. Both bedrooms are also located on the main floor. The master features a queen bed with an en-suite bath. and a large jacuzzi soaking room. The room also has sliding glass doors opening onto the deck. The second bedroom features a queen bed and an adjoining bath. Each bedroom has a ceiling fan and a smart TV.
Take the spiral staircase upstairs into the loft area where you will find a queen bed and sleeper sofa allowing you plenty of sleeping room if you want to spread out. Downstairs has a washer and dryer and a foosball table for your enjoyment. Owners have safety in mind with a wooden gate to block the stairwell.
Sits at the perfect location to offer mountain views of Beech Mountain and Banner Elk and be within walking distance to Sugar Mountain's ski resort. You are only minutes away from all of Sugar's amenities and a short drive to shops and dining.

Over all, the property was great for us and what we intended to get out of this trip. Great communication, great price and nice views. It was close to everything in the area. Cleanliness: We checked in to a dishwasher full of dirty dishes. There was half smoked cigar under the patio furniture that we cleaned up as to not get in trouble for. Dump site was closed on Sunday so we had to check out and carry trash home with us. There was, what appeared to be a small amount of dog poop under the table that I stepped in while eating. TVs: The TV in the living room took a while to figure out. Should leave instructions on how to operate and an updated channel guide of what the property has. Master bedroom TV worked sometimes. Others, remote was either dying or the sensor was bad. Couldn't figure out how to use TV in the bedroom by entrance. We never used the loft, the basement or the jacuzzi tub. Great features but we did not attempt. Kuerig had a piece missing that caused the water to spray everywhere. We finally found it in the cabinet. Not sure why it was broken down. Master bedroom mattress was humped in middle and either side was sloped causing you to roll off the bed. Bed by entrance was really hard. Lighting was well labeled but still difficult to figure out. Ceiling fan said start on Medium, but only high and off worked. Shower head in Master has poor pressure and most settings seem to barely work. Sink in there has a loose faucet. Fix those and it is 10/10

We are sorry about the dishwasher. Housekeeping did run it before your arrival, but we discovered that the dispenser was not opening correctly. It will be repaired. This unit is not pet-friendly, so there have not been any pets in the unit. Also, the carpets/rugs were cleaned the day before your arrival. This property was convenient to area attractions. Grocery options nearby. A compact 3 level home. Parking space accommodates 2 cars. There is no yard instead small grill area on decking; covered screened back porch & covered front porch. Inside a narrow, spiral staircase, not suited for large luggage. Two beds & two baths on main level. Upstairs loft has no toilet/bath, guests must go downstairs to use bath. Kitchen is compact and 1 person can be in it at a time. It had all the regular equipment, the icemaker worked. Renters must bring their own foil, plastic wrap, extra paper towels etc. Laundry is downstairs and renters must bring their own laundry supplies. Laundry access is somewhat impaired by the closeness of the game table. The master en suite has hot tub in adjacent room. Closets are fully packed with extras, including a boxed toilet, it makes using them (especially with long hang) challenging. We used one bed/bath off the kitchen because it was a walk in shower. Bed was medium comfortable, I found the pillows thick, firm and uncomfortable for my neck. The bath needs towel bars or hooks especially for towels. TV remotes could use instructions. The office immediately responded when we were unable to get TV working. House says it sleeps 8. I think it is best suited for family with children. 6- 8 adults would be too crowded IMO. Would stay here again.

Our stay was over July 4th weekend and the area was of course very busy. The checkin process was all automated and worked as expected. There were no problems with the property and our stay was very comfortable. The checkout was not as smooth as I would have hoped but that was a function of checkout day being the actual holiday and the office was closed. I would clearly do it again.

Overall cleanliness of the unit was great. The staff was pleasant and courteous. The only issue we had was that when we arrived the unit was hot at about 80 degrees. The ac would not come on and when I called the after hours service number no one answered. About 30 minutes later I receive a call and am told someone will be there soon. When they arrive they can't fix anything and tell us to open the windows and they will send someone out the next day. Nobody ever showed up and we spent the entire stay with no working ac and only one working remote for three tvs

The location is great. Just a few minutes to Sugar mountain lodge and central to everything else we wanted to do. We had an issue with the door locking that was resolved after a couple phone calls. House was well maintained with all the necessary things needed to cook meals. Dish washer did still have dishes when we arrived which I assume was forgotten by cleaners since we were supposed to start it before we checked out. We will be back!

Great Location

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was more than satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Location is awesome! You're kinda in the middle of everything with mostly short drives to whatever you want to do. House still felt secluded enough to were you didn't feel like people could see you on the porch or through the windows. Only complaint was it was very cold when we stayed & the house seemed to struggle to get any warmer than 60-65 degrees at night even with getting up multiple times to turn the timer back on for the gas logs. That was a concern since we had our 6 month old with us but luckily we found space heaters in the closets that did the trick. We still enjoyed our stay very much & would stay again.

I have some trouble walking, so I appreciated the ramp and accessible shower. However, it’s starting to show its age: sagging mattress, ants, old electronics, old deck furniture, broken kitchen drawer, wood planks at the front entrance need repair or replacement. If some of these changes are made, especially the old mattress, we might rent it again.

Awesome Stay!

Our stay was awesome! The house was in the perfect location. We went to Grandfather Mountain, Boone, Blowing Rock, and Linville Falls. Every evening we watched the sunset from the back deck which was breath-taking. We will definitely come back.

Perfect location for skiing

We enjoyed our stay at this property! Lots of space and nice amenities. Using the gas logs downstairs caused the loft to get too warm but once we figured that out, all was well

Beautiful and well kept

Nice property, very clean and well appointed. Parking for only two vehicles, and kind of tight with two SUV's but worth it for the view!

Perfect Getaway

Beautiful cabin within walking distance from slopes. It snowed while we were there which made it even better! We will definitely come back!

Great stay, perfect for quick Sugar Mountain access

We loved our stay at the Owlery! We came to ski at Sugar Mountain, and the location made it a super fast drive (less than 5 mins). We could have walked, but we had small children with us. You can see the ski lodge and lifts from the back porch, and if you happen to be staying over New Years Eve like we were, you get an incredible view of the fireworks show! We comfortably slept 8 people, but could have had more on couches or sleeping bags if needed. The whirlpool bath is huge and was a big hit with the kids.Everything was comfortable and in good working order. The kitchen was just what we needed, and there was enough space for all of us to hang out after a long day of skiing.A couple of things that didn’t detract from the experience, but just worth noting: Parking can fit 2 cars but no more. Street parking in front is not allowed since the roads are tight. The upstairs gets very warm, and the basement level is very cold! Crack the window upstairs and you should be fine, and unless someone plans on sleeping downstairs, it’s not a problem. It snowed while we were there, and though the roads were plowed and salted quickly, it still got slippery in places. Bring your snow chains just in case. We loved our stay, and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking to spend time around Sugar Mountain.
