We hadn’t been to Phuket for many years so weren’t sure how much it had changed. We wanted somewhere quiet, away from loud nightlife but within easy reach of a beach. The Lanterns looked perfect: spacious, elegant, well kept and with a very good-sized pool. We booked for a week.The admin via Vrbo and the owner was handled very efficiently, with plentiful and accurate information about check-in and location. Airport pickup is offered, but we hired a car and there was plenty of undercover parking.The Lanterns is in a very peaceful development of about eight villas and we hardly saw anyone else. We were greeted by the wonderful housekeeper, Khun Sa — what a delight. She spoke good English and had worked at the villa for many years, living locally and knowing everything about the area. She recommended and booked restaurants, advised on beaches, shops and markets, and was also an excellent cook. She made us a delicious Pad Thai lunch one day.I enjoy cooking, so she told us about the best fresh markets and I cooked for five of our seven nights in the very well-equipped kitchen. The villa was beautifully appointed and maintained, spotless, and the pool was excellent. Khun Sa was always respectful of our privacy, asking when it suited us best to clean and keeping out of our way. She truly was a delight.Thank you Fiona and Khun Sa — your villa and service were excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
