We would like to thank you for considering our beach home for your vacation. Our family is from a small, but growing community, Harrisburg NC, which is just outside of Charlotte. Our story begins with our great grandfather Theodore, purchasing a 200 acre farm in 1906, in what is now the University City area of Charlotte, NC. Originally a dairy farm, over time, my grandmother transitioned it into a beef cattle farm when the boys all grew up and started different careers. As God would have it, luckily, my Dad, Tommy came home from the Air Force in the 50’s and ended up becoming a full time farmer like his Dad and Grandad before him. I moved to the farm with my Mom and Dad in 1975, and it has been a wonderful life for our family and for our children to also grow up there. Over the years, out of necessity, some of the farm was sold to Duke Power Company, and we ended up having around 50 acres left. As was God’s perfect plan all along, we sold the farm in December 2023. We really struggled to know what to do with the proceeds. Something that would extend our memories of the farm by seeing it become something else meaningful for, Lord willing, generations to come. We decided to roll the sale of the farm into a beach house and name it, The Salty Heifer, so that when asked, we can always tell of our family history and how this beach home became possible. Our family created so many wonderful memories over the 100 + years on the farm, and we hope The Salty Heifer will help create new, but lasting memories for our friends, family and guests!

Our family fell in love with the quiet, east side of OIB! We first visited this property in January while it was still under construction. It was just framed up, but we felt it was special. The elevator hadn’t been installed yet, so we headed up the stairs to the top floor. When we reached the top step, we looked left, Stood one look at the incredible view of the intercoastal waterway, we knew this was the home for us.

Pictures can’t do it justice! The gorgeous views of the intercoastal waterway are spectacular! You have ocean views from the front porch and the intercoastal on the rear decks. There is an immediate feeling of peace and relaxation once you step on the property, and especially when you walk around back. Enjoy a cup of coffee, a beach novel or a glass of wine and good conversation on any deck or the pool patio! The pool area has an outside tiki bar with a TV, and one inside tiki bar that has a roll up garage door that opens up to the pool area. So, even when you get those morning or afternoon beach rain showers, no worries, you can keep the party going! We have a ping pong table, dart, and corn hole boards and all kind of other games to play. What we also added, that might not sound like a big deal but you will love, is a commercial ice maker on the first floor! You never have to worry about running out of ice at The Salty Heifer!
