While we're glad Mr. Desai had a good time at our Aspen home, we will no longer accept ANY booking from him. Mr. Desai is clearly mistaking poor customer service with our refusal to give in to his attempts to extort up to $1000.00, which violates VRBO's extortion policy. Mr. Desai tried to cancel the booking 2 days before the check in date and requested a refund. After being informed it was too late to cancel he asked about sub-letting the home. He was advised it was against our terms and conditions in the occupancy agreement he signed. He was advised the home would be ready for anyone in the group still wanting to use it. The day after Mr. Desai's group checked out we received a call from his "Friend" Wahab stating he wanted to follow up on receiving a $500.00 refund or a $1000.00 credit for a future rental due to an issue he experienced with a non-functioning fireplace and one of the TVs not working. It was explained to Mr. Wahab we would need to speak to Mr. Desai as the renter on file. After confirming the actual conversation with our maintenance rep, we found Mr. Wahab called to report a problem with the fireplace at 11:30pm the final night of the booking and never mentioned an issue with a TV. It was also confirmed that no offer of a refund or credit was made but the group was given late check out at 2pm FREE of charge. When Mr. Desai contacted us, we offered a $200.00 refund as a courtesy for the issue with the fireplace. When asked for specifics about the fireplace and now TV issues, he was unable to provide any details and insisted on conferencing Mr. Wahab in on the call because he had the info. This lead us to believe Mr. Desai was NOT at the property during the rental and had sub-let the home to Mr. Wahab. We directly asked Mr. Desai if he was indeed at the home during the rental and he state he was there and again insisted on contacting Mr. Wahab for details. At this point, we informed Mr. Desai we would be refunding $200.00 for the fireplace issue and that was all. Mr. Desai continued to ask for a larger refund, a credit for or a discount on a future rental. We informed Mr. Desai the $200.00 refund was all we were giving and that we would be reporting him to VRBO for violating their extortion policy. At no time were we disrespectful or rude to Mr. Desai or Mr. Wahab. In response to Mr. Desai's comment on our needing to "be reminded that they are in the hospitality business," good customer service does NOT include agreeing to extortion.
