David and I have been happily married for 36 years! We raised our three children here in Grand Rapids before moving away to further our careers in nursing. Two years ago, we purchased the 10-acre piece of property on Jess Harry Road and moved back to Grand Rapids. We fell in love with the trees!
We built our first Yurt as a temporary situation but discovered that we liked our circular home with its window to the sky! We’re able to experience a closeness to nature that we’ve never had before. The sound of the rain on the roof is amazing! Looking through the dome as clouds drift by during the day and seeing the stars twinkle at night is a privilege that few people know. We’ve found a sense of peace and quiet in our tiny house as outside noises seem to bounce around its orbit. If it were not for our beloved Cocker Spaniels, Buddy & Holly, we would not know when visitors have arrived! Initially, friends & family worried about how we would fair in the yurt during the long cold MN winters. The gas fireplace keeps the house warm and cozy. The snow magically slides off the roof. Watching the snowflakes float outside the windows is mesmerizing! You truly feel like you are living in a snow globe! It’s lovely!
