Meet Your Hosts - The Folks Behind the Mill
Linda Schatz founded At Ease Retreat Corporation after decades in design and real estate, and a lifetime of dreaming about a place like this. Originally from Hawaii, Linda brought the warmth of island hospitality to the hills of Vesuvius, Virginia, and teamed up with her son, Tyler, to create something heartfelt, creative, and refreshingly down-to-earth.
They didn't want to build a resort-they wanted to build a place that felt like home. A place for gathering, creating, laughing, healing, and staying a while.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento
At Ease Retreat Corporation is the heartbeat of Osceola Mill, and at the center of it all is Linda Schatz-a woman who knows a thing or two about hospitality.
Originally from Hawaii, Linda grew up in a culture where family, gathering, and making guests feel at home were a way of life. That warm, welcoming spirit is something she has brought to Osceola Mill, shaping it into a place where visitors can unwind, unplug, and feel completely at ease.
Before running the Mill, Linda spent 27 years in real estate development, working on everything from apartments and retail spaces to master-planned communities. After falling in love with rural Virginia, she knew she wanted to create a space that felt comfortable, unpretentious, and deeply connected to the land-a true home away from home.

Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
Back in the 1800s, water-powered mills were the heartbeat of the Shenandoah Valley. Osceola Mill was one of seven mills along Marl Creek, once a bustling network that fed local farms and families. Today, only two are still standing-McCormick Farm Mill upstream, and Osceola right here at the bottom of the creek. Both were part of the larger McCormick estate, rooted deep in Virginia history.
Osceola Mill spent over 120 hardworking years grinding flour and cornmeal for the local community. Built in 1849, it was crafted with massive hand-hewn beams made of now-extinct American Chestnut, and it's still standing strong thanks to the quality and care put in by generations past. The iron Fritz water wheel you see outside replaced the original wooden one and still stands as a striking piece of mill history-though it's no longer turning, it's a powerful visual reminder of the Mill's working days.
In the 1900s, the Brubaker family kept the mill going, producing stone-ground goods until Hurricane Camille swept through in 1969 and brought the operation to a close. But the story didn't end there. Instead of fading into history, the Mill was lovingly restored-first into a private residence, then a country inn-and it's been welcoming guests from around the world for nearly 50 years ever since.
Today, Osceola Mill still carries the spirit of its working past. You'll find original mill parts scattered throughout the property, a tribute to the hands that built and ran this place long before we turned it into a bed and breakfast.
The Millhouse now holds four unique guest suites on the second floor-each with its own charm, a private bathroom, and a blend of old-world character and modern comfort (yep, there's WiFi and espresso).
Just a few steps away, tucked beside the creek, is our McCormick Cabin-a freestanding, pet-friendly getaway with vintage vibes, perfect for families, couples, or anyone who prefers to stay close to the ground.
