Stargazer at Splitrock Farm & Retreat

Tucked into a quiet corner of Splitrock Valley, Stargazer offers sweeping views of Fallbrook’s countryside and a front-row seat to the night sky. This off-grid geodome invites you to reconnect with nature while enjoying simple comforts and a beautiful, open-air setting.

The 101-acre Splitrock Farm & Retreat features panoramic views stretching to the Pacific and Big Bear, plus miles of walking and biking trails, including the on-site Splitrock 5K. Just 3 miles away, the Santa Margarita River Trail Preserve — ranked the #1 trail in San Diego County — winds along one of the last free-flowing wild rivers in the region and is home to golden beavers, steelhead trout, and diverse plant life.

Inside the Stargazer dome, you’ll find:

Queen-Sized Bed – With fresh linens and cozy pillows for restful sleep
Seating Area with a View – Two chairs arranged to take in the valley below
Bar Table with Two Chairs – Great for a casual meal or morning journaling
French Press & Basic Dishware – A bring-your-own-coffee setup with dishes and utensils provided
Wood Stove – For warmth and ambiance on cooler evenings
Two Bedside Tables – For convenient storage
Solar-Powered Lighting – Soft lighting to brighten the space after dark

Please note the property operates fully off-grid using solar power and battery storage. Power is limited and should be used mindfully throughout your stay. High-draw appliances such as hair dryers, heaters, and AC units will significantly reduce battery life and may not be sustainable, especially in the evenings once solar charging stops. A solar-powered system provides ambient light; we recommend bringing portable chargers for any electronics. Guests may also charge their electronics in the communal area.

Private Firepit Area – With seating for two, perfect for stargazing under clear skies

Guests also have access to the Oak Grove Communal Area, which includes games, fire pits, and a shared outdoor kitchen. On weekends, the Camp Shop inside the Oak Grove’s shipping container is open with firewood, snacks, and other basics.

Splitrock is surrounded by outdoor adventures, from the Santa Margarita River Trail and Santa Rosa Plateau to the wine country of nearby Temecula — all just a short drive away.

great place to stay and decompress

discovered Split Rock Farm on a random internet search and just had to book a stay. STARGAZER dome camp was really nice and felt fairly secluded, yet close to the bathroom/shower. We had planned to go hike some of the popular trails in the area but ended up just hiking around on the property as there are roads and trails everywhere. Ran into the goats several times. The gaurd dog was pretty impressive and was very professional in keeping my dog in check with just body language. She can get crazy. There were hardly any campers there as it was during the week. Very quiet and peaceful. We will definitely book another stay here to try out some of the other campsites. I gave four stars because there were a few minor maintenance issues that had i not been a prepared camper could have things not as fun and relaxing. No major complaints though. Just make sure you have power if you need devices and extras.

The campsite and staff are wonderful. Easy to take a deep breath and relax upon arrival. Quiet, peaceful, clean air, spacious tent, cool amenities, great location. Would definitely, return. Thanks guys!

Wonderful experience

Beautiful property, dome was nice and relaxing and staff was friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to go camping without all the extra work of setting up and tearing down camp. Plenty of room to store belongings, and bed was a nice change instead of using pads and sleeping bags. Cooked our meals over the fire with provided fire pit grill. Spent Valentine’s Day here.

What a cool and unique concept - glamping is a far reach as glam has no part in the Stargazer experience, at least for us. I should have known as soon as the signage was out of date driving in to find a path towards Rock Bottom that this would only be the beginning of an eventful night. Be wary of having a vehicle with clearance any smaller of an SUV as my stock Honda Civic was just barely able to handle the dirt roads in this campsite. (a tip not stated once in their many descriptions) to the, bottoming out at every turn and nearly stranding us there if not for some makeshift DIY roadwork.Be wary of the open floorboards with just a thin sheet of mesh that allows all of the insects on Gods green earth to also share in the experience with you - even creating their own biodome habitat. The gnats, ants, beetles, roaches and praying mantis were solicitors that could haven be handled/tolerated.. but the sheer amount of brown recluse who made the bed their hunting ground was just too much. We drove in from Arizona at 9pm, packed up the car again at 12am and left to sleep at the beach, without another place to stay as it was far too late to check in anywhere else.I wish we would have packed our camping gear as sleeping in a zip up tent on the deck of this place would have been better than the night we had.

Nice place but….

The place is nice location is really good. Customer service wasn’t that great. There were a few small issues with the tent and kept calling the provided number and no pickup for a while. Finally got through and they said they would help with the issue but nothing was done.

Ben's connection with nature and outdoor recreation was rooted early.
Despite remarkable career shifts from athletics (playing and coaching) to business (MBA and consulting) to academia (PhD and professor), Ben’s connection with nature drove him to create his own recreation and wellness retreat. Vetted through traveling to 72 countries and residing on 3 continents, overlanding 2,000+ mile treks across 5 continents, Ben experienced, lived, played, fed, and meditated with amazing people in the most amazing landscapes on earth. A global search ended with finding the perfect outdoor recreation and wellness paradise a mere 20 miles as the bird flies from his childhood home.
Ben’s experiences and connections taught him to value lifelong learning, exploration, fitness of the mind, body, and spirit, outdoor recreation, and triple bottom line (people-planet-profit) sustainability. 5 miles from downtown Fallbrook - a scenic 10-minute drive to several restaurants, shops, groceries, and gas,
14 miles from all the major stores plus wine tasting in Temecula
1 mile east of Camp Pendleton Nature Preserve to enjoy the views.
3 miles to The Santa Margarita River Trail has a large parking. It's a beautiful trail along a natural river lined with trees, and maybe you can find the locals swimming hole and tire swings where the river meets the road.
11 miles to the Santa Rosa Plateau offers miles of trails.
