Thanks Fiona for sorting us out when we had problems with our dates due to my work, much appreciated and you are a star!
The apartment itself has 3 bedrooms (2 ensuite) and lots of room with nice views and a balcony. It has all the mod cons you could expect. The kitchenette area is quite small, but OK for our needs and we cooked 6 out of 7 nights for a family of 4 so no problems at all. The complex it is in has a beautiful open air heated swimming pool that looks out onto the mountains. inside their is a large jacuzzi and steam room. It really is spot on. Shame there isn't a proper bar in the place, but that should not put you off. They have adequate ski lockers on one of the floors and you can ski from here down to a short lift. Take this up and then the immediate run to your right takes you down to the ski school area. I know people have said it is quite complicated to find your way back to the hotel, but it isn't. Give yourself a bit of time on the first day and follow the map. Once you have done it once it is a doddle and saves taking your boots off in the Ski area and either catching the bus or walking (15-20 mins walk).
We hired our equipment from Skiset which is on the right hand side as you walk from the apartment down to the ski slopes. You can pick up your ski equipment the afternoon before you start your lessons if you wish.
For the family ski lessons (all different abilities) we used the French Ski School ESI. All the instructors apart from the one my missus had were really good.
Their is a Spa Supermarket, Butchers, Bakers and a Delicateson underneath the Skiset ski hire shop where you can buy all of your essentials. The good thing with the Spa is that you can actually buy online, although we didn't manage to succeed due to our poor French. However, go into the shop, fill up your trolley and they will deliver it all within a couple of hours free. This saves humping bags up the bank to the apartments. For fresh bread, nice cakes and croissants then either use the bakers mentioned above or ask the reception in the hotel and they will order bread and croissants for you which are available first thing in the morning.
The ski area is superb and seeing that it was March there were no queues anywhere and the conditions were superb. Hence the reason that we have just booked again with Fiona in her wonderful apartment for 2013. We will use the same ski hire and ESI for lessons. We look forward to returning to Flaine.
