Bear Lair Retreat at Camelback Mountain in the Poconos

Experience Tannersville like a local in this 3-bedroom townhome. This charming property features 2 king beds, 2 queen beds, and 1 twin bed, perfect for families or groups of friends. With amenities like free WiFi, clubhouse with indoor pool, indoor basketball, indoor and outdoor tennis/pickleball courts, guests and families can unwind and stay connected. Kickback, relax, and enjoy everything Tannersville and our townhome has to offer.
The townhome is located halfway up the mountain in the gated community of the Village at Camelback, next to the slopes of Camelback Resort. Come in the spring and fall to hike the trails of Big Poconos State Park at the top of the mountain, or plunge into the waterslides of Camelback waterpark a few minutes away to cool down in the summertime. Then zip down the ski slopes at Camelback in the winter. Don't forget to roam the outlets mall at the foot of the mountain. If there is time and energy left, stop by the clubhouse enjoy the pool, sauna, hot tub, and other racquet sports for some more fun in the evening!
Lastly, the townhouse just welcomed the addition of 4 NEW mini-splits in each of the 3 bedrooms and the living room for comfortable cooling and heating all year round!

Our family really enjoyed our stay at Bear Lair Retreat. I had some confusion around check-in (my own fault), and the owner himself reached out to me to clarify. The condo is perfect for skiers, with access to the trails a short 3 min walk. For those of us who didn't ski, we loved having access to the amenity space, it was perfect for keeping the children busy!. Overall, I gave this stay 5 stars due to the value. As mentioned, the location to the mountain and the amenities were very important to us. In regards to the unit itself, yes there are some improvements that can be made (it is a bit dark, and the couch has seen better days - although comfy, etc). However, there are several other units within this development at higher price points. If you are looking for a more luxurious experience, this might not be the price point for you. However, if you are looking for a cozy spot with a modern, updated kitchen and bathrooms, this is a great spot!

We stayed for three nights at the end of August. The listing did not note that the condo is on the bottom level of the complex (see stairs in photo) or that the layout has the bedrooms downstairs and the living space upstairs. There is also a lofted area with a bed, but because it’s open-air, it wasn’t a good option for a family stay.Additionally, guests are requested to tip the housekeeping staff, which we felt should have been included in the cost of the stay and covered by the owner. The pool and activity center were only accessible by driving, unless you wanted to walk along a main road, which wasn’t ideal for families.The grill was not in a usable state (see photo), and the couch was completely torn up, making it uncomfortable to sit on. Please also see the additional photo showing the bathroom fan hanging down. Overall, the condo just seemed very worn down and not well maintained. With some updates and clearer communication in the listing, this could be a much better stay.

Needs a few improvements

The rental had some positives but also a number of issues that made our stay less comfortable than expected. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything we needed (and more), and communication with the property manager was quick and reliable. However, there were several disappointments: the Firestick didn’t work and wasn’t delivered until late Sunday/Monday morning, the living room lighting was very dim, and the back deck was dirty—even the table hadn’t been cleaned. Only one burner on the grill worked, and the back door didn’t lock, which was concerning. The couch was uncomfortable unless you sat on the chaise side. We also didn’t know we needed to bring our own towels for the pool, and there weren’t enough towels provided in general. In addition, the shelves in the fridge door were missing, which made storing items more difficult. With a few improvements, this could be a much better experience.
