The Tommy James Place – Rustic, Cozy Cabin Near Wise River
Escape to the mountains and enjoy peace, privacy, and outdoor adventure at this rustic cabin just 4 miles from Wise River, located directly on the breathtaking Pioneer Mountains Scenic Byway. Whether you're fishing the Big Hole River, hiking forest trails, or cruising the byway, The Tommy James Place is your ideal base camp for exploration and connection.
The cabin sleeps up to 8 guests. Inside you’ll find 2 full bathrooms, a spacious, fully equipped kitchen, and views from every window.
Built in 1978 by our father and close friends, the cabin has been part of our family ever since. You'll notice meaningful touches throughout, from vintage auto memorabilia to handcrafted details. After the passing of our brother, we renamed it The Tommy James Place in his honor—a tribute to the memories we've made here and the peacefulness this place brings.

Hi! We’re a Montana family lucky enough to have called this beautiful cabin—and the surrounding Wise River valley—our home away from home for generations. The Tommy James Place was built by our father and a group of close friends in 1978 for a family friend named Pat. After his passing, our father inherited the cabin, and eventually, it came to us. We named it in memory of our brother, Tommy, whose spirit still lives in every corner of the property.
Our family has deep roots in Montana, especially in the auto industry, which you’ll see reflected in the cabin’s decor. From our grandmother’s bookkeeping days in the 1950s to our dad’s time as a mechanic and GM dealer, this place is filled with reminders of our hard-working heritage and the memories we’ve built together.
We love doing all the things this incredible area offers—fishing, hiking, snowmobiling, skiing, hunting, and just soaking up the peace and beauty of the mountains. The cabin is located directly on the Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway, a stunning drive through the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest. It’s also near the route of the Continental Divide Trail, so hikers and bikers often pass through the area in search of big skies and quiet trails.
This cabin has always been our base camp for adventure and re-connection, and now we’re honored to share it with you. Whether you're looking for solitude, outdoor adventure, or meaningful time with loved ones, we hope The Tommy James Place becomes part of your own story, too.
