Perfect desert oasis guest house

This was our 2nd trip to the Casita in Sky Valley (Desert Hot Springs) and it was even better than the 1st time. Rick, the host, is very knowledgeable about the area and can provide recommendations if you need them. And he's the nicest person you could ever meet. This will become an annual trip for us.

Amazing hosts and casita

Where to start with our wonderful and relaxing stay...how about the nicest hosts greeting us as we arrived. A clean, refurbished and adorable casita with fresh flowers and beautiful grounds are just some of the "starters". It was the only vacation rental we have ever stayed in where our dogs were relaxed and behaved like they do at home. I could go on and on about how great the casita is and the how perfect of a location for getting a feel for and visiting the Palm Springs, Palm Desert and Desert Hot Springs.

Amazing!

If I could give this property 10 stars, I would!!! Everything about this Casita is well thought out and just downright spectacular. Rick is an amazing host who will take care of you before and during your stay. The ambiance of the home, inside and out, does not disappoint. We felt completely at home and didn't want to leave. Spent most of our time in the backyard oasis, enjoying the views of serene palm trees and pond area. When wr go back to Palm Springs, this is the only place we want to stay! If you're looking for seclusion and privacy, with great atmosphere, this is your vacation oasis.

Beautiful desert oasis

The casita was a beautiful oasis in the desert. The place was nice and secluded, perfect if you're looking for a nice quiet area. The place is a little outdated but adds to the charm and rustic feel of the cabin. The house is equipped with all the amenities that you would find in a house and more. The area was perfect for stargazing at night or sitting by the fire pit or relaxing in the hottub. We hosted a zoom wedding while there and Rick was very helpful in helping us host a beautiful wedding. We loved our stay there and would definitely book again in the future.

An absolute DREAM of a rental!

My partner and I rented the casita for the Coachella weekend and immediately fell in love with the property. Rick is the BEST host we have ever had! He is beyond kind, helpful, and accommodating. The casita was stocked with everything you could possibly need and so much more. We will definitely be returning in the near future. Thanks Rick!! :)

Dog and People Heaven

We have stayed in so many rentals, but seldom talk about coming back to stay again. This place is so special, though, and I know we'll be back if given the opportunity. Rick, you are even nicer than all the reviews say! Your attention to the casita, inside and out, is part of what makes it such a special place. The other part is, simply, you. You put our little schnauzer Schnitzel at ease instantly, and he's deeply suspicious of everyone! Thanks for everything, including the delicious pumpkin pie!

Great location, privacy, and hosts!

We used this lovely casita as a jumping off point for day trips to Palm Springs, San Bernardino, San Jacinta, Joshua Tree, and Mojave Desert. The house was very clean, well decorated and renovated, and despite the 115 degree heat - very cool! We could really unwind here, and we got great sleep in the new bed. The house had all the amenities one would want (especially for the bathroom and kitchen - lots of cooking tools, blender, robes in the bathroom, plenty of towels, laundry, etc.), and we enjoyed looking at the beautiful yard, hummingbirds, and owls while hanging out on the patio or in the hot tub. We also really enjoyed feeding the fish in the pond and meeting our hosts and their adorable dogs and miniature horses! The highlight may have been tasting the wonderfully fresh dates the hosts grow on their farm - I will be ordering more from Desert Mountain Dates - yum! We will definitely stay again if we're back in the area :)

The pictures don’t do it justice!

Oh my goodness. I wish I could have stayed longer. The hot tub, pond, grounds, casita, and Rick were the best. Rick was so helpful, but never tried to intrude on our stay. His goal was to have our stay be the best it could possible be. He gave us great advice about where to go for things we were interested in doing. Although I could have just stayed on the porch and sipped wine the whole time and been perfectly happy. The place is truly a paradise in the desert. I highly recommend this vacation rental. I could go on and on. Like how the bed was very comfortable, the bathroom was gorgeous, the numerous windows made for spectacular views. I hope to go back for a longer stay.

Never expected such a fantastic experience

We were very pleased with our stay at the casita. This little house is great for a couple and their furry companions. We enjoyed our walks and the beautiful scenery all around the property. It was great fun to feed the fish in the large pond. The house has everything you might need and you will be surprised at all the nice little touches that you would not expect from a vacation rental. Our 3 dogs acclimated very quickly and had as much fun as we did. The host, Rick, is friendly, knowledgeable about the area, easy going and a wonderful person. When renting a vacation property, we don't usually meet the host or manager in person as everything is done through the Internet, via email or by phone. We were very happy to meet Rick and it made our stay that much more enjoyable. We definitely recommend this VRBO. You will not be disappointed.

Beautiful location and property

This property is beautiful! Beautiful outdoor space and scenery, you can probably spend most of your time in the hot tub or laying on a lawn chair under the palm trees. Check in and out process was so easy and Ivan (Rick) was a very attentive and helpful host. I can't wait to go back one day!

Great Stay

My friend and I stayed here for our stay during Coachella and it was perfect! Rick was super helpful and kind and provided lots of tips and advice on the area. It’s very quiet and the hot tub was wonderful! He even showed us his miniature horses next door which are adorable!

Perfect property for us

This little oasis in the middle of the desert was perfect for the two of us and our dog, Annie. The owner, Rick, attended to all of our needs and maintained the property meticulously. Annie loved to see him come visit and play.....I think the feeling was mutual!! During the Covid pandemic, this was the perfect place to be.

Don’t miss out on a beautiful spot

We had the loveliest stay the casita. The grounds are beautifully maintained, the house is nicely decorated and comfortable, and our dog loved the little pond nearby. Also, the double fence surrounding the property allowed our dog to run off leash safely, which is a huge bonus. Rick took wonderful care of us, even delivering homemade cinnamon rolls and introducing us to his adorable mini horses. We loved our stay and can’t wait to come back.

An Oasis

Truly an oasis in the desert! This was the perfect spot for my new puppy to acclimate to life in the desert. Green grass and two fences made this an ideal location. The house had all the comforts of home ~ cooking and baking in the kitchen was super easy, since everything I needed was right there. Rick and Carter were wonderful hosts, making this adventure forever memorable.

Perfect Getaway (especially for festival season)

Rick was the best host ever and super responsive and accommodating. The house is pretty spacious and in the perfect location for festival season when all you want to do is get away from all the craziness and crowds. The oasis is truly so peaceful and beautiful to hang out in. The jacuzzi was so relaxing especially after a long day on your feet. We definitely recommend this place :)

Peaceful and Mesmerizing

We so enjoyed our stay at the Casita! Every where you walk or sit has its own charm and something interesting for the senses. We loved feeding the tilapias in the pond and sitting in the Palapa. The first night we arrived, we watched the Full Moon rise above the mountains to the East, and it was magical. Rick gave us a wonderful ranch tour where we got to meet his miniature horses, and walk among the date Palms. I think our K9 'Drama' enjoyed her stay almost more than we did. She was so happy walking and running the grounds with us as the property is completely fenced. Rick and Carter are the best Hosts! If you're looking for a Desert Oasis, this is it! Thanks for a Perfect Vacation

The property was great,. even better than advertised. Everything about the house was clean, comfortable and in perfect working condition. The five fenced acres were great for my dog. Best of all was the natural mineral spring Jacuzzi and the fish pond. The location is off the highway so as to be peaceful and quiet, but minutes from Desert Hot Springs and Palm Springs. The owner went out of his way to assure that our stay went well. Plenty of nature: roadrunners, hummingbirds, rabbits, quail, orioles and other wildlife abound. Hope to stay here again in the future.

Tranquil Desert Oasis

Comfortable, tastefully decorated, well-equipped casita with views in all directions. The perfect escape for anyone seeking peace and privacy in a natural setting of palms and desert plants. A palapa overlooking the pond and a mineral water jacuzzi completes the relaxing, outdoor experience. Rick, our host, was a wonderful addition to our stay and we plan on returning again in the spring.

Paradise!

When I needed new lodging after an unexpected change of travel plans, I hit the jackpot with the casita. I had to pinch myself that I was going to get to spend two weeks in what felt like paradise. The views, sunrises and sunsets, chemical-free mineral hot tub, fun of feeding the fish every morning, walking the property with my dog free to run in a fully fenced five acres was a great time for both of us. So nice to enjoy the quiet desert beauty and beautifully landscaped property and still be only minutes from lots of activities.This is the perfect spot to recharge your batteries or spend true time together with a loved one. Rick and Carter are two of the kindest people I've ever met! Rick has being a gracious host without being invasive down to an art. So lucky our paths have crossed. Already trying to figure out when I can make a return visit!

One of a Kind!

Our family, including my wife & I along with our three pups, stayed at the casita over Labor day weekend. To put it simply, it was tremendous. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay as well as Rick & Carter. Our pups had a blast and we didn't have to worry about them in the least--everything is completely fenced in. We enjoyed relaxing, making fires, feeding the tilapia and sitting next to the pond. In addition, we had a great time visiting with Rick & Carter. They showed us around the grounds, including getting to see their beautiful miniature horses, chickens and wonderful dogs. We are already planning a return trip in October--see you soon!

Perfect for any kind of vacation!

My wife and I had only 3 nights to stay here, but we could easily see staying for much longer. We spent most of the daylight hours making various excursions around the area, but we could easily see just staying on the property for days on end. Rick and Carter have created a true oasis, not just from the desert, but from whatever kind of everyday life you might have had enough of for a while. Before you arrive, your hosts make you feel very welcome, ensuring that you can find the location easily and, in our case, being very flexible with the arrival time. Rick offered us eggs from his chickens, and brought us apples from his tree when we arrived. We had told Rick that we were interested in hiking, and he offered suggestions of where we could hike where the conditions would be milder, as we had arrived during a sort of heatwave. Although the owners live on property adjacent to the casita, we felt very secluded there. When you are inside the property, you could be anywhere in the world because the palm grove surrounds you so that all you can see are the mountains and the sky stretching out around you. And while Rick is very helpful and thoughtful, he was not at all intrusive. You could not ask for a better host. The casita is very nicely decorated, and all the furnishings and accessories seem new. It is very easy to feel at home because it has everything you need, and the furniture is comfortable and not beaten up. The grounds, of course, are a marvel. When you step out the back door, you have so many choices of social space. The area under the thatched canopy by the tilapia pond is very comfortable for lounging, and there is also the mineral spring hot tub (wonderful at night), a small table where we had meals, shaded outdoor seating by the gas grill, more seating out on the lawn in the sun, and a hammock. All of this surrounded by palm trees, gardens, and sky. We spent our time out at Joshua Tree National Park and exploring the Salton Sea area, and we could have easily spent several more days doing that, and a lot longer on other excursions. It was great to come back after a long day of site seeing and be able to make a nice dinner and relax under the stars in the mineral spring tub. Those few hours made it easy to imagine coming back for a longer stay and never leaving the casita. I thank Rick and Carter for creating such a wonderful experience that really enabled me to forget about work and deadlines and all those other plagues of everyday life.

A lovely home away from home

We stayed for 6 glorious weeks at the casita. Although this means little house, it's actually quite large for 2 people, and there is also so much outdoor space. I'll try not to repeat what others have praised, because it's all true. Views from this property are amazing. There are various seating options outside, but our favourite was underneath the thatched canopy watching the hummingbirds and Tilapia in the pond. Inside the house is furnished very well. There is no dishwasher, but other large and small kitchen appliances, and washer and dryer, are really good. The pillow-top king size bed was very comfortable. There is a nice large jetted tub in the bathroom, but we always used the jacuzzi outdoors because it was superb. The shower stall is on the small side, but functioned well. Heating and air conditioning also worked well, and were easy to operate. Wi-fi was excellent. 15 minutes away is Desert Hot Springs and Desert Dunes Golf Club, which is a great open course (no houses around.) The owners really care about this property, and Rick was very friendly and kind to us. I would describe this property as: relaxing, quiet, private, comfortable, therapeutic, scenic, star gazing, wonderful. It's on our list for a repeat visit.
