Your Vermont Escape Awaits!
Our home is a cozy blend of hand-hewn beams, wavy old glass windows, slanted wide-beamed floors and modern furniture and decor. Enjoy a brand new bathroom (of vintage-inspired style) with a deep soaking tub, farmhouse kitchen, wavy glass windows, and two working woodstoves.
Picnic in the yard under string lights, go for an evening run or bike ride on the West River trail, or just lay on the couch and read with a cup of tea.
We live in a cute tiny village called West Townshend. There's a beautiful walking path along the West River just down the road from us (10 min walk), and several hikes nearby. The West Townshend Country Store is a 3 minute walk, which hosts wood-fired pizza and live music every Friday, Sunday music jam sessions, Tuesday night burgers and live music, and a summer farmers market on Friday afternoons. The country store offers breakfast and lunch, local groceries, crafts, and a thrift store.
Jamaica is another adorable village about 6 mins down the road with a wonderful VT general store. Larger grocery store is about 10 mins away. Chester, Grafton, Bellows Falls, Wilmington are all within about 30 mins and have cute shops, antiques, etc. Happy to answer questions about the area. We have some snowshoes and cross country skis you could borrow if interested.
Nestled on 1.4 acres alongside a picturesque brook and a historic stone bridge, this charming Vermont farmhouse offers an inviting retreat for families seeking both relaxation and adventure. Immerse yourselves in nature with a dip in the swim hole or playing in the stream on the property. Head out on a hike or forage for wild mushrooms from the front door. Explore the nearby West River, just a few minutes’ drive or walk away, with lots of spots for swimming and fishing. Centrally located, our farmhouse is within easy reach of Brattleboro and Manchester, and just 20 minutes from Stratton, Magic Mountain, and Mt. Snow, making it a perfect hub for hiking, biking, skiing, and other outdoor adventures and winter sports.
We use the house occasionally, so you may notice some of our clothing, food, toys, and books stored around - but you’ll have access to the entire house.
A Cozy, Charming Space
Built in 1830, our farmhouse exudes rustic charm with a touch of history, offering a cozy family atmosphere. The property includes a master bedroom with a king-sized bed and bay windows overlooking the yard, a queen bedroom with a desk for quiet retreats, and a child’s room with whimsical twin bunk beds. A small, cute kitchen and dining room open into a large, lovely lofted living room that overlooks the rushing brook and historic stone bridge. Though our home is quaint and filled with character and old house quirks, it is also equipped with modern touches to ensure comfort throughout your stay. Both the bathroom and kitchen have been recently renovated with modern touches while maintaining the historic feel.
Thoughtful Touches for Your Stay
Explore a wide selection of books, puzzles, games, and even a huge cookbook collection to entertain both young and old alike.
The kitchen comes with pantry staples and a wealth of cookware (quality pots and pans, knives, and appliances, not the cheap junk found in many rentals!).
Quality organic linens await you, adding comfort and care to your stay.
Grill over a wood fire bbq in the backyard (you will never have a better burger!) and toast s’mores at the fire pit overlooking the stream and historic stone bridge.
Relax with a book and cold glass of wine or Vermont craft beer in the hammock.
For guests with kids, conveniences like a travel crib, infant tub, and potty are available, as well as a child’s bedroom with bunk beds.
Experience the warmth of our home with heat pump mini-splits for comfortable heating in the winter and cooling AC in the summer. For cold winter days, the house is kept warm with a combination of heat pumps, propane baseboard heating, and wood stoves. Outdoors, the partially fenced yard connects to the inviting backwoods, ideal if you come with pets.
Well-behaved pets are welcome—our own dog thinks she’s in heaven after moving here from NYC, and yours might too! The yard is mostly fenced, but adventurous dogs could still run into the woods; ours happily roams unleashed.
Notes :
Heating: In very cold weather (below 20–30°F), the woodstoves keep the house coziest. The heat pumps and propane baseboard heat can keep you warm, but if you know how to make a fire, you’ll enjoy the woodstove heat most.
Childproofing: The house is not fully childproof. We’re most comfortable hosting infants or one older child, but are open to discussion. Our own son lived here happily and safely from ages 3–8.
Our farmhouse is more than just a place to stay—it’s an opportunity to create memories in the heart of Vermont. Pets and children are welcome, though we want to be upfront about the quirks and character that make this home unique.

Preguntas frecuentes
Acerca de su propietario/a
Propietario/a: Jenny Kessler
We are a Brooklyn and Vermont based couple who are passionate about food, education and travel. Jenny is a public school teacher, and Alex is a professional chef. We have an 8 year old who is a frequent and easy going traveler, and a lanky dog who loves to stretch her legs.
Since moving to Vermont we've been slowly renovating two very old, rustic, and beautiful houses. Whenever we get the chance, we explore other parts of the world.

Por qué escogió este alojamiento
West Townshend has a vibrant and welcoming community that is very active around the Country Store just down the road, with the summer farmer's market, wood-fired pizzas on Fridays, live music Tue / Fri / Sun, and lots of artists' studios around the area.
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
This historic house was built in 1830 and we've tried to keep as many of the original details intact as possible, while thoughtfully upgrading things like the bathroom and kitchen for comfort. We love the charm and the quirks that come with an old house!
