Acerca de este alojamiento
Riverfront Log Cabin with Treetop Views near Dahlonega- Hot Tub, Firepits, more!
The Harris Hyde Away: An Etowah Riverfront Log Cabin in Dawsonville, GA
Harris Hyde Away is a recently renovated log cabin perched on a wooded hillside overlooking treetops and the Etowah River in Dawsonville, Georgia. This retreat combines rustic log cabin charm with modern amenities, offering the best of both worlds: seclusion in nature and all the comforts you need for a memorable stay.
With private, significant river frontage, fire pits with complimentary firewood, a wraparound deck, high speed Starlink internet, the Harris Hyde Away was designed for anyone who wants to experience the beauty of North Georgia without giving up modern conveniences.
The Space
Set above the river among tall hickory and dogwood trees, the cabin offers a quiet perch with views of the Etowah below. From the moment you park and step out of your vehicle, you’ll hear the steady sound of the river welcoming you to your stay. From the wraparound deck you can enjoy forest scenery, glimpses of the water, and the calls of nature drifting up from the river. Morning coffee on the deck, afternoon reading under the shade, and dinners at the outdoor picnic table all flow into an easy rhythm of cabin life.
A private trail leads down to the sandy riverbank, where Adirondack chairs rest on a sand embankment, the perfect place to lounge, sip a drink, or simply listen to the current drift past. The shoal at the water’s edge often draws butterflies, adding a quiet sense of magic to summer days by the river. Deer, wild turkeys and other wildlife are common.
A hot tub with river views for use during all seasons to soak and relax.
Inside, the cabin balances rustic character and modern comfort. Vaulted ceilings, exposed beams, and log walls give an authentic feel, while large windows brighten the space. A wood stove makes evenings cozy, especially in colder months.
The living room is designed for reading, conversation, and socializing without modern distractions. Books line the window sills, encouraging guests to unplug and enjoy a slower pace. For group entertainment, the second bedroom doubles as a movie lounge, with its sectional sofa and TV. Meanwhile, the loft offers a twin-over-full bunk, a cozy reading chair, views, and TV with retro SNES — a favorite hideaway for kids and teens.
Cabin Features
- Wraparound Deck — Shaded by trees, with plenty of seating and a picnic table for outdoor meals. - Two Fire Pits — One directly in front of the cabin, the other by the riverbank. Guests often spend their days at the river and their evenings gathered around the large fire pit near the cabin — a highlight of many stays. Extra camp chairs are provided so everyone has a seat around the fire. - Riverside Picnic Area — Charcoal grill and picnic table at the sandy riverbank, perfect for riverside dining. - Wood Stove — Adds warmth and atmosphere to the living room. Complimentary firewood is provided, along with a canvas tote and gloves for easy carrying. - Wi-Fi and Entertainment — Reliable Starlink internet supports remote work, streaming, and calls. Bedrooms and Bathrooms
The cabin sleeps 5–7 guests in three unique spaces:
- Master Bedroom — King bed with fresh linens and windows overlooking the river, offering peaceful forest and water views. - Second Bedroom — Queen bed paired with a sectional sofa and large TV, making it a flexible space that works both as a private bedroom and a lounge for family movie nights. - Loft Bunkroom — Twin-over-full bunk plus a private reading nook with a cozy chair and tree-lined views, offering kids, teens, or solo travelers a semi-private retreat of their own.
The home has two bathrooms: - Master Bathroom — Features a walk-in shower with a rain head and a separate freestanding tub, creating a spa-like retreat within the cabin. - Loft Bathroom — Full bath equipped with a shower/tub combo for flexible use.
For your comfort, Paul Mitchell Tea Tree shampoo and conditioner are provided.
Kitchen and Dining
The kitchen is stocked with everything needed for meals:
- Full-size refrigerator, oven, stove, microwave, and dishwasher - Pots, pans, dishes, bakeware and utensils - Dining table for 5, plus island seating for 2 - Assorted wine and whiskey glasses for use indoors and outdoors - Multiple coffee brewing options
From pancake breakfasts to evening feasts, the layout makes cooking and gathering simple.
Coffee & Tea
The cabin includes a variety of ways to enjoy your morning coffee or tea, whether you’re brewing indoors or carrying it riverside:
- Nespresso machine with milk frother for quick, café-style lattes and cappuccinos - Moka pot for stovetop espresso-style coffee - Manual and automatic burr grinders for fresh-ground beans - Ceramic French press for use inside the cabin - Stanley French press for brewing and carrying coffee down to the river or fire pit - Drip coffee maker for classic convenience - Selection of teas, including decaf and herbal options
Outdoor Living and River Access
The Etowah River is the heart of this property, and unlike many rentals with only a small access point, Harris Hyde Away offers significant private river frontage. Guests enjoy complete privacy at the water’s edge, with only the occasional kayaker drifting by.
A moderately steep private trail (walking sticks provided) takes you down to the sandbar, where you can:
- Swim or wade in the refreshing shallows. - Try your luck fishing along the river’s edge. - Relax riverside in Adirondack chairs set on a soft white sand embankment, or enjoy the picnic table and grill.
Water shoes are recommended for navigating the natural riverbed. Days are best spent at the river, and when the sun sets, guests gather at the large fire pit in front of the cabin, where extra camp chairs, complimentary firewood, and the night sky create lasting memories. A cooler bag is also provided, making it easy to bring food and drinks down to the riverbank for picnics or grilling.
Wildlife and Nature
Harris Hyde Away is part of a living ecosystem. Large butterfly bushes near the cabin attract colorful butterflies throughout the warmer months, and more can often be seen congregating on the shoal at the water’s edge. Guests may also spot deer and other local wildlife moving through the trees, a reminder that this property is immersed in nature.

So much thought and care has been put into the comfort of guests at this home. Beach towels, fishing poles, books, board games and puzzles, movies, coffee and snacks, and all the other little extras that made for a comfortable stay. The sound of the river and the wildlife each day was wonderful. We even saw a deer in the yard while we were driving in one evening! We were able to enjoy the hot tub due to some unseasonably cool days in late April. The beds were also very comfortable. This house felt very much like a home to us.The hosts were very responsive and helped all along the way with check-in, check-out and advise. Thanks for a making this such a memorable vacation for us!

We could not have selected a better Family-friendly/oriented place to stay for our first Destination Christmas. The cabin and rooms were immaculate...The beds were so comfortable. The kitchen was perfect (and I sooo LOVED the sink/faucet!). Our 3 kids (11, 10, and 6) had a blast playing outside and exploring, playing horse shoes (which was a first), playing games such as chess, Legos and so much more! We ventured out to Helen and Dahlonega and saw sights and made memories...but our time at the cabin...that is where we had the most fun and enjoyment. Our hosts were and are absolutely amazing! They went (and go) above and beyond anything and everything I ever would have expected...and I cannot thank them enough! Sharing your cabin with our family, and the way you host...we truly felt like we were at home...Thank you again for helping make our Christmas a memory that will last a lifetime! And...we truly cannot wait until we can visit again!

The cabin is absolutely gorgeous! The host was wonderful and very responsive. The road is a little bumpy to get there but it is so worth it. It was the perfect weekend get away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life. And the beds are actually very comfortable!!! Most rentals I've stayed at I don't get much sleep, but here I slept like a rock. 11/10. Would definitely stay here again!

Acerca de su propietario/a
Propietario/a: Christopher Harris
I’m Chris, a Georgia native with deep roots in the South. My wife, Thao, and I love this cabin and the peaceful setting on the Etowah River. From the beginning, our goal has been to create a place where guests can feel both comfortable and connected, surrounded by nature but with every modern convenience at hand.
The cabin has been thoughtfully renovated to preserve its rustic log cabin charm while adding the modern comforts that make a stay simple and enjoyable. From the wood stove for cozy winter evenings, to complimentary firewood with tote and gloves, to the variety of coffee and tea options and the kayaks waiting by the river, every detail was chosen to make it easy for guests to relax and enjoy.
A big part of why I host comes from my mother. She never met a stranger in her life and set the standard for true Southern hospitality. She believed in making people feel welcome, comfortable, and cared for, whether they were family, friends, or first time guests. I try to carry that spirit forward in the way I host, creating a space where others can experience that same warmth. Guests may even notice a few gentle signs of her beloved cats in the cabin. Those scratches remain as reminders of the love and life that have always filled this place.
This cabin is a place we truly love, and sharing it with others makes it even more meaningful. For us, hosting is about more than offering a roof over your head. It is about creating a retreat where families, friends, and couples can make memories. As your host, I am committed to making your stay smooth and enjoyable. I am always happy to answer questions, provide recommendations, and share local insights. At the end of the day, I want guests to leave with the same feeling I get every time I visit the cabin, refreshed, reconnected, and already looking forward to the next time.
Por qué escogió este alojamiento
This cabin has been part of my family for many years. My father, a Harris, and my mother, a Hyde, built it together, which is why we call it Harris Hyde Away. They both loved this cabin and the land it sits on, and it quickly became a special gathering place. For us, it has always represented comfort, retreat, and the chance to be close to the beauty of the Etowah River.
My wife and I chose to continue that tradition by opening it to others so guests can enjoy the same peace and connection that our family has always found here. We love this neighborhood because it offers the best of both worlds. The cabin sits tucked into the trees above the river, so you hear the water from the moment you arrive, and the private river frontage gives guests a true sense of seclusion. At the same time, it is only minutes from Dawsonville and within easy reach of Dahlonega, Amicalola Falls, Lake Lanier, Gibbs Gardens, and some of the best wineries and outdoor adventures in North Georgia.
Qué hace que este alojamiento sea especial
What makes this place special is the way it balances privacy and accessibility. One moment you can be sitting on the deck with coffee, listening to the river and watching the trees sway, and the next you can be enjoying a winery tour, exploring a waterfall, or dining in a historic gold rush town. For my family, it has always been a place to slow down and step away from the ordinary. Now, it is a place where guests can do the same and create memories of their own.
Rustic charm with contemporary furnishing and decor. Beautiful location which truly helps you feel like you're a million miles away from the world. Perfect for a family or group of friends to enjoy quality time together and make lifelong memories.
