My husband Ruud and I live in the Netherlands in a typical Dutch building, a converted Windmill. We love it there. This Windmill has helped to gain land - we call that a Polder - by draining the water and pumping it into a clever canal system. The polder is called the Zuidplaspolder and the lowest point of The Netherlands (of Europe in fact) is less than 2 km away from us: 6.74 meters below sea level. This all took place between 1835 and 1845. Since then the Windmill hosted a variety of residents including small farmers and alike. Since 2000 we are the privileged owners and residents of this unique and historic building. As the Windmill is only 25 minutes away from Rotterdam Center we thought it would cater for the best of both worlds: visit Rotterdam - the New City of Cool - whilst staying in a typical Dutch building in a rural area, still very close to the city center. Gouda with its famous cheese is 5 minutes away and the group of Windmills of Kinderdijk - Unesco Would Heritage Site - is also not far.

But we also fell in love with Bali and decided to build our own villa. In 2007 our dream house Villa Tunjung was completed which is situated on one of the most beautiful locations in the North of Bali, far away from the touristic hustle and bustle in the South. Apart from our passion for Bali I'm also privileged to dedicate parts of my life to critically endangered Great Apes. As a volunteer I take care of traumatised Chimpanzees one day per week in a sanctuary in the Netherlands. With my foundation 'Rowena Goes Ape' I raise funds for Rescue Centers elsewhere in the world which I select by actually working there as a volunteer, with my 2 feet in the dirt. Twice a year I travel to a rescue center abroad and do my bit.

Beautiful beaches, dolphin trips, terraced rice-fields, plantations, mountains, monkeys, temples and some nice villages and towns are close by, such as Lovina and Singaraja. This old capital of Bali is home to the Gedong Kirtya library where you will find the famous Lontar Manuscripts. South of Singaraja you find he most spectacular waterfall of Bali, the Git Git waterfall. About 10 minutes from the villa the Buddhist monastery, Brahma Vihara Arama, also called the little Borobodur, is worth a visit, just as the famous Hot Springs of Air Panas which are 5 minutes away. You will find wonderful snorkeling and diving sites, such as Menjangan Island nearby and also one of the finest golf courses in Asia, the Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club, is just an hour's drive away.
