Serene 2-bedroom townhome in Ironwood perfect for your getaway
Tune your frequency to this quiet and peaceful townhome in historic Ironwood, Michigan. This cozy getaway is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts; just 25 minutes from Lake Superior and surrounded by hiking and waterfalls as well as snowmobile, downhill and cross country skiing and UTV trails. Only, two hours from the Keweenaw Peninsula and just over an hour to Ashland and Bayfield, Wisconsin. Immerse yourself in the rich history of the mining and logging families who once called this area home. The area is a sanctuary, as is this home. So, if all you want to do is tuck in and be cozy and rest surrounded by the specific peace and quiet this northwoods area provides...permission granted, space provided.
We have two comfy bedrooms.
The Logging Room, in honor of the logging history of the U.P. has unique cedar shake walls, one queen bed, warm flannel sheets, blanket, and quilt, extra pillows and blanket, a dresser, unique clothes hanging wall, Roku television set to 'Guest Mode' so you can login to your own channels and be logged out automatically upon your departure, wood floors, room darkening curtains, a book shelf with a smallish library containing some Daphne du Maurier novels, Perry Mason, and others, bedside tables and lamps, a full length mirror, view of our large and beautiful evergreen tree and the vast forests that flow to Lake Superior.
The Mining Room, in honor of the mining history of the U.P. Copper Country, also has unique cedar shake walls, one queen bed, and one twin day bed with a trundle. There is a Pack n Play underneath the queen bed should you need it. Each bed has cozy flannel sheets, blanket and comforter, pillows, extra blankets. This room also has a Roku television set to 'Guest Mode', wood floors, room darkening curtains, bedside tables and lamps, an antique dresser with a large oval adjustable mirror, and a view of our beautiful yard and down historic Sunset Road.
The one bathroom is on the second floor and has the original cast iron bathtub (it's delightful. :D), updated shower fixtures, tub surround, toilet, and vanity. This room overlooks our beautiful backyard and smallish forest that ends at the Trail 1 snowmobile trail. (We do not yet have a trail created through our forest for you to get to this trail directly, and it's on our list of things to do this off season. :)) This is a great place to view the herd of deer that visit multiple times a day. :D The bathroom is cozy, so towels will be available on your bed upon arrival. Soap, shampoo, and conditioner are also available. Hooks for hanging towels are available in the bathroom and on the back of each bedroom door.
The first floor consists of a living room, dining room/kitchen, and a three season porch. The doorway to the basement, and small utility closet, is through the kitchen. The washer and dryer and detergent are in the basement.
The dining room and kitchen are decorated to honor those who have lived and worked the maritime life and Lake Superior and all she has been, and is, to the people of this area and those who visit.
The kitchen is fully equipped for most anything you'd like to make on vacaction. Refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave. There is a blender, coffee and coffee maker, tea and tea pot, pizza pan, casserole dishes, a waffle maker and mix, mixing bowls, pots and pans, utensils, silverware, plates, cups, bowls. There is a crockpot for fix-it and head out for the day meals. There are a couple of plastic plates and bowls if that feels better to you for little ones. There is also a high chair.
The dining room features banquet seating for 6 and ample cupboard space for any food you choose to bring. Walmart is about 5 minutes away. There is also another grocery store in town, Super One, and a Kwik Trip also within 7 minutes should you want to shop when you arrive or need anything.
The three season porch is just that, a three season porch. It's a bit chilly in the winter...and you can find two very comfy chairs, a door to the back deck and yard, and a great view of the deer when they are visiting. There is a coat tree in this room as well for extra space and if you come in through the back door.
The living room is dedicated to honoring the history and families of Sunset Road and the Ironwood area. There is a loveseat, two wing back reclining chairs, and two antique rocking chairs. This room is where you can hang your coats, etc. and place shoes, boots, etc. There is another boot tray in the dining room. The cedar chest contains a treasure chest of board games. The radio cabinet in the corner with the television is from the same time period the home was built and contains a Bluetooth speaker. The t.v. is 50" and will also be set to 'Guest Mode' so you can use your own subscriptions while you are visiting and not worry about having to log out before you leave.
The backyard is beautiful and is a winter wonderland in the winter and a beautiful haven the rest of the year. The snow piles would be amazing for 'sledding' on for little ones and possibly even building forts. The Wolverine Nordic Trail system, a network of groomed trails for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, and hiking is at the very end of Sunset Road to the east. Mount Zion, ski hill and lookout (you can see Copper Peak ski jump and Lake Superior!) is behind the house and about a 10 minute drive away.
The house is equipped with Wi-Fi. Notes about that will be left on the dining room table. The driveway is approximately 28 feet. Further accomodations may be able to be made if needed upon booking.
