Casa da Ilha is located on the waterfront, facing the mainland, on Araújo Island in Paraty, Rio de Janeiro. The island lies close to the mainland between Praia Grande and Praia do Rosa, where Maria Isabel’s famous distillery and the Santa Clara Hotel are located. It’s a place where nature and the traditional coastal lifestyle coexist. There, you can routinely see the comings and goings of small canoes used for artisanal crab and shrimp fishing. All of this, combined with the contrast between the Atlantic Forest and the calm waters of Araújo, creates the perfect setting for relaxing, paddling, and stand-up paddleboarding, not to mention its proximity to countless beaches for swimming and diving.

The house features 300 m² of distinctive, environmentally friendly architecture, with ocean views from every room. It is laid out over three levels: On the top level, which is split into two levels, there are two suites facing outward, offering spectacular ocean views and a deck made of reforested wood. On the middle level, there are two interior suites and a cozy mezzanine bedroom that open onto a small lounge with a private guest bathroom. On the lower level, facing the beach, is the large entry hall, open to the spacious kitchen and a small half-bath. Above is a stunning living room that seems to float between this space and the sea. The indoor garden completes the atmosphere, bringing the outdoors inside.

It comfortably accommodates 10 adults and two children. ADDITIONAL RATES APPLY FOR GROUPS OF 10 OR MORE. To better serve our guests, we recommend boats with a sailor for transfers. Guests may choose from various excursions and can hire the boats directly. Housekeeping and a cook are also available upon request.
Access to the house is via the Praia Grande pier at km 565 of BR-101, which is 10 km from the Paraty interchange. Book your transfer to the house. The house staff member or sailor will welcome you. You may request any service, and we will arrange it to best accommodate you, such as a cook, nanny, massage therapist, barbecue chef, etc.

A cat named Nina and her kitten Chico live nearby and outdoors. They are fed through an automatic feeder. Please do not feed them. They often prefer not to interact with guests or strangers—that’s just their nature.
