Vacation on the beautiful Elbe River: “Take a break!”

With this wish, we warmly welcome you to our thatched-roof house in Barnkrug. Barnkrug is a village in the Kehdinger Land region on the southern bank of the Elbe and features a small harbor that’s popular with sailors in the summer.

Our thatched-roof house, which is over a hundred years old and located just 200 meters behind the Elbe dike, offers you a relaxing atmosphere.

In just a few minutes, you can reach the dike and, from its heights, get a first glimpse of the unique natural beauty of the Elbe River and the foreland; feel the elements and let your thoughts wander freely amid the vastness of the sky and the Elbe landscape.

Walks and hikes on and behind the dike allow for a relaxing time; moreover, the nearest Elbe beach is only about 2 km away and is easily accessible by bike or on foot. Birdwatchers will find a variety of species to observe: In both spring and fall, large flocks of migratory birds fly over the nature reserve. However, many bird species, such as barnacle geese and gray geese, remain here year-round and, especially in winter, fly over our house daily in large groups as they move between the Elbe and the moor—a truly impressive sight.

The vacation rental is located in an old thatched-roof house well-known in the area. It was completely renovated in 2016/17, and we made a point of using primarily eco-friendly building materials.

Most of our hot water and heating energy is produced by a water-heating wood-burning stove and solar energy. Natural gas supplements our heat generation. We use renewable electricity.

A stay with us in the countryside is very convenient, even without bringing a car. The bus stop, located just a few meters away and quite busy by rural standards, provides a direct connection to Stade and thus also to the Stade train station, with direct S-Bahn and Metronom connections to Hamburg and Cuxhaven. This opens up opportunities for day trips, and nothing stands in the way of an eco-friendly arrival and departure.

We look forward to welcoming you,
The Schlüter/Forner family
