The “Bauernkate” in the Westerwald
This 90-square-meter apartment is located on the first floor of the Lindenhof and is accessible from the rustic, cobblestone-paved courtyard. The separate front door, sheltered by a quaint half-timbered canopy, leads you first into the hallway of the vacation apartment. From here, another door leads into the spacious, 16-square-meter kitchen.
Even here, you’ll clearly see what awaits you in many other parts of the vacation apartment: very rustic furnishings made with historic building materials, yet without compromising on functionality in any way. For example, the kitchen floor is paved with clay tiles that once lay on the grain loft of a half-timbered house several hundred years ago. The kitchen cabinets and appliances are all built into the walls and beautifully plastered, and the countertops are made of a thick, solid beech slab. You can choose to cook on the ceramic cooktop or on the two gas burners located next to it. A refrigerator, dishwasher, and microwave are, of course, also available. Naturally, the kitchen is also equipped with basic supplies such as common spices, trash bags, etc.
For heating, there is a rustic wood-burning stove. The kitchen opens directly into the adjoining dining room and is separated from it only by a few massive, gnarled oak beams.
The dining room is dominated by a large, roughly hewn oak table with matching seating, which complements the solid wood floor beautifully. An antique sideboard also serves as storage for the dinnerware.
From the dining room, you enter the approximately 20-square-meter living room. The dining room and living room are separated by a half-timbered wall, which is filled with historic bricks and clay, lending both rooms a cozy atmosphere. The other walls of the living room consist partly of ancient half-timbering and partly of rustic plaster in Mediterranean colors. Here, after a long hike, you can make yourself comfortable on the large, cozy corner sofa, which offers plenty of space for the whole family (the sofa can also be converted into a bed for two people). Reflect on the day over a glass of wine or simply relax in front of the large flat-screen TV with satellite reception and a Blu-ray player.
The apartment has two bedrooms: The larger bedroom features a double bed (160 cm x 200 cm). Clothes can be stored in an antique linen closet. The second bedroom has two cozy bunk beds, each measuring 90 x 200 cm, built as a bunk bed between two half-timbered structures. There is also a rustic built-in closet here that offers space for laundry as well as other items. A patio door leads from this bedroom into the garden.
Or perhaps, after a strenuous bike ride, you’d prefer to take a hot bubble bath in the bathroom’s tub to relax your muscles a bit? In addition to the aforementioned bathtub—which is equipped with a shower partition and can therefore also be used as a shower—the bathroom is, of course, also equipped with a toilet and a sink.
The vacation rental is rounded out by a storage room that houses a washing machine and can also be used to store items such as crates of beverages and the like. If the weather is nice—which we hope it will be—you can also make yourself comfortable on the patio furniture located on the terrace. In addition, we offer the garden as well as a fire pit and grill area for shared use.
The “Lindenhof Bergenhausen”
We warmly welcome you to the Lindenhof Bergenhausen in the beautiful Westerwald.
In the village of Bergenhausen, which has only 12 houses, we offer six spacious, non-smoking vacation apartments on our property—formerly a farm—accommodating various group sizes. You’re also welcome to bring your dog and board your horse on our spacious pastures or in our open stable. Bergenhausen is a district of the county seat Altenkirchen, which offers all the shopping and services typical of a medium-sized town. You can easily reach these in just a few minutes by car. Despite its close proximity to Altenkirchen, Bergenhausen has a very rural character, surrounded by forests, meadows, and the Wied River. This means you can set out directly from the house for a beautiful hike, a bike ride, or a horseback ride and enjoy nature. Incidentally, Bergenhausen itself has only one access road, which ends at the edge of town. So there is no through traffic. As mentioned, we offer 6 vacation apartments of varying sizes, each designed for different occupancy levels: The “Kornspeicher,” the “Wäller Stube,” the “Bauernkate,” the “Spatzennest,” the “Sattelkammer,” and the “Heuboden.”
