The village lies around 400 metres above Lake Lucerne and is the northernmost municipality in the canton of Uri. It consists of the parts Sunnenberg, Oberdorf and Unterberg. The lowest point of the municipality lies at 434 metres above sea level on the shores of Lake Lucerne, while the highest point at 2,117 metres above sea level is on the Oberbauenstock.
