Island Idyll at the Old Friesenhof – A Special Retreat on Sylt
This special house is located on the southern outskirts of Westerland, where the built-up area gradually gives way to open space and Sylt becomes noticeably quieter. The Island Idyll in the Old Frisian Farmhouse is located in one of the island’s oldest Frisian houses—a historic, thatched-roof building with a character all its own.
Even from the outside, the house’s original architecture is evident—a classic Frisian thatched-roof house, shaped by its history and the island’s typical building style. The interior is all the more surprising: with great sensitivity, high-quality materials, and a keen eye for detail, a living space has been created here that is at once stylish, warm, and exceptionally harmonious.
Spanning two levels and approximately 75 m², the space offers a spacious living experience for up to four people. The rooms feature an open layout without sacrificing a sense of coziness—ideal for couples, small families, or anyone who wants to treat themselves to a little more space while on vacation.
The living area forms the heart of the home: hardwood floors, a soothing color palette, a cozy sofa nook, and the wood-burning stove create a pleasant, almost effortless sense of comfort. It’s a place you’ll love to return to after a day at the beach, where you can let your mind unwind and feel the stresses of everyday life slowly fade away.
The kitchen is high-quality and fully equipped—everything you need is there without being obtrusive. Cooking, sitting together, winding down the day: exactly how a vacation should feel.
Two bedrooms offer retreats, each with its own character. One of them has a slightly narrower bed (approx. 1.40 m wide) and is therefore well-suited for two children or even two adults who prefer a more compact space—a detail that’s helpful for transparent planning.
The bathroom blends seamlessly into the overall aesthetic of the house. With a keen sense of materials and proportions, a space has been created here that captures the character of the historic building while offering modern comfort. High-quality fixtures and a well-thought-out design create a pleasant, serene atmosphere that consistently upholds the home’s high standards in this area as well. This is complemented by an additional guest restroom—a welcome addition, especially when entertaining multiple guests.
The serene overall atmosphere continues outdoors: A private garden offers secluded spots for relaxation with sun loungers and seating—a place for peaceful mornings or long evenings outdoors. In addition, a spacious communal garden is available, offering plenty of room and naturally open for shared use.
A private parking space is available right next to the house. Ample storage space is provided for bicycles. There is also a small, covered storage area.
The location combines tranquility with good accessibility: Located on the southern edge of Westerland, the surroundings feel noticeably more open, while the beach, town center, and shopping options remain easily accessible. Even without a car, you can get around easily here.
The island idyll at the old Frisian farmstead is not a traditional vacation home—it’s a place with character. It’s perfect for anyone seeking an authentic experience without sacrificing comfort and who values a harmonious, high-quality atmosphere.
