Tucked away among the gentle hills of Montalcino and at the heart of the Brunello wine region, an authentic Tuscan farmhouse sits gracefully atop a hill, offering a stunning 360° panorama of the surrounding countryside. Here, amidst ancient vineyards and olive groves, time moves slowly, wrapped in the silence and beauty of the Val d'Orcia. It is the ideal refuge for those in search of tranquility, relaxation, and nature, where each sunset paints unforgettable scenes that linger in the heart.

The apartment is located on the first floor (floor above the ground floor) and features a spacious open-plan entrance with a fully equipped kitchen and a cozy living room with a usable fireplace.
It offers two comfortable bedrooms: one with a double bed and one with two single beds.
For maximum privacy, there are also two separate bathrooms, both with shower.
Outside, guests can enjoy a private space with a table and chairs and a panoramic garden with a barbecue and sunbeds, perfect for relaxation.

The house is located in the heart of the picturesque Val d'Orcia, a UNESCO World Heritage site, about 50 minutes south of Siena and an hour and a half south of Florence.

In just 20 minutes, you can reach the center of Montalcino, world-famous for its renowned Brunello di Montalcino wine, while San Giovanni d’Asso, known for its precious white truffle, is only 10 minutes away.

In 20-30 minutes, you can reach San Quirico d'Orcia and Pienza, known as the 'ideal Renaissance city' and for its Pecorino cheese, where some scenes of the famous film Gladiator were also filmed.

Essential services such as a supermarket, bakery, café, pastry shop, and pharmacy are located in the nearby village of Torrenieri, just 10 minutes from the property.

For thermal bath lovers, Bagno Vignoni is about 20 minutes away, while the free thermal baths of Bagni San Filippo with the famous 'Balena Bianca', and the thermal baths of Rapolano Terme can be reached in about 40 minutes.

For those who wish to take a day trip to the sea, Castiglione della Pescaia or the free beach of Marina di Alberese in the Uccellina Natural Park are about an hour and a half away.

Wonderful place. Rustic, country farmhouse with beautiful views of the countryside and sunsets. Angela and Alessandro were very welcoming and helpful. Great location for day trips but we loved coming back to spend the evenings enjoying the view.

Amazing Views of Tuscany!

Wonderful apartment with views of the Tuscan hills - such a peaceful setting! Wish we had more time than our 5 days to just relax at the property while exploring the medieval villages close by. Angela and Alessandro were wonderful hosts and waited at the property for us to arrive after dark with flashlights to guide us! A bit tricky to find as it was 1-2 miles up the gravel road past where our GPS ended. Hubby got lost one day and they met him and led him back to the property - sooo kind and helpful!! Angela communicates using WhatsApp. You'll ejoy your stay - we will be back!! ❤️❤️

Toskanisches Landhaus mit traumhafter Aussicht

Wir haben im Montechiari wunderschöne Tage verbracht. Wie bereits in den anderen Bewertungen angegeben, befindet sich das Anwesen abseits der Hautstraße und ist nur über eine recht steile und kurvige Schotterstraße zu erreichen. Hier war es hilfreich, dass wir die Beschreibung eines anderen Gastes parat hatten: Am Castello links vorbei und dann an der Gabelung rechts dem Schild "Montechiari" nach. Am Haus selber ist dann kein Schild mehr, das hat uns etwas verwirrt. Man muss das zweite Tor nehmen. Ohne Auto ist man aufgeschmissen, mit öffentlichen Verkehrsmitteln kommt man nicht in die Nähe. Angela und Alessandro haben uns sehr herzlich mit einem selbst gebackenen Kuchen und einem Glas Wein empfangen. Wer Italienisch kann ist sicher klar im Vorteil, aber wir kamen auch so gut zurecht. Die beiden sind reizende Gastgeber und sehr bemüht, ihren Gästen einen angenehmen Aufenthalt zu bereiten. Sie helfen immer gerne und geben hilfreiche Tipps für Ausflugsziele und Restaurants. Die Lage der Wohnung ist sehr gut. In Torrenieri mit einem guten Supermarkt ist man in max. 10 Minuten, in Montalcino in 20 Minuten und in Siena in 45 Minuten. Wir haben außerdem sehr schöne Wanderungen unternommen und viele Radfahrer gesehen. Es gibt drei Wohnungen, von denen zwei vermietet werden. In einem weiteren, gesonderten Gebäudeteil wohnt Angelas Bruder, von dem man aber gar nichts mitbekommt. Wir waren in der oberen Wohnung, die einen separaten Eingang hat. Die Terasse der unteren Wohnung ist auf der anderen Hausseite wie der Außenbereiche, der zur oberen Wohnung gehört. Man kann sich also wirklich aus dem Weg gehen, wenn man das möchte. Die Wohnung selbst ist im toskansichen Stil rustikal eingereichtet. Die Fotos des Inserats geben einen treffenden Eindruck. Das "Leben" spielt sich in der Wohnküche ab, neben dem Esstisch gibt es dort noch ein Zweiersofa. Gefehlt haben uns Kleiderhaken für die Jacken und es könnte wirklich etwas mehr Geschirr da sein. Aber das fällt nicht weiter ins Gewicht. Da wir an Ostern da waren und es noch recht kalt war, mussten wir vor allem am Anfang viel heizen, was gesondert auf die Kosten schlug. An manchen Abenden haben wir den Kamin angemacht, was wiederum gemütlich war. Absolut sensationell ist die Aussicht. Vor allem die Sonnenuntergänge über den sanften Hügeln sind spektakulär und der nächtliche Sternenhimmel ebenfalls. Wir können das Montechiari empfehlen und kommen gerne wieder.

The Views are Spectacular

The views from this VRBO are spectacular… the house is comfortable and clean. Look no further. I highly recommend this place! If I were to create a hilltop villa in Tuscany, this is what I would build. This VRBO is a quiet beautiful comfortable hilltop home. It is so comfortable, quiet, and serene. The drive up to the villa is slightly challenging only because after traveling a few kilometers north of Torrenieri and taking the left turn onto Strada Castelverdelli, the road is gravel, narrow, windy, and at the 1.2 km point, the road seems to end at the castle. It doesn’t though, keep going up the hill to the left of the castle, and after another 1 km, you will see a small hand-painted sign, “Montechiari!” Take this right fork and travel 0.8 km further and you will find this wonderful Montechiari home. There are five window views in all four directions of the compass. Each one has spectacular views with the everchanging Tuscan light. Golden light! Even after sunset, the stars above and distant lights of Montalcino from the living room window are simply amazing. This home dating back to 1700, has hand-hewn exposed beams supporting vaulted ceilings. Form and function are perfectly balanced with modern conveniences added over the years. As a home renovator and careful observer of architecture, I found the details extraordinarily interesting. One evening, the hosts, Angela and Alessandro visited to ask if everything was okay – we gladly replied that all was perfect. They offered us a glass of wine and we sat together on the veranda enjoying some Italian/English conversation while the sun set on the landscape below. We speak English. They speak Italian. We made it work. This total immersion is what international travel is all about. We thoroughly enjoyed this. As hosts, they were great – attentive and mindful. They received our visit, showed us the rental, gave us the key, and left us to explore and enjoy their hilltop villa. The other two apartments in this structure were unoccupied during our visit. So we essentially had the entire villa to ourselves. So relaxing and wonderful. After several day trips to nearby Montalcino, Pienza, and a longer 90-minute drive to the Tyrrhenian Sea – I realized that the hilltop views from this VRBO are so impressive that it isn’t even necessary to go anywhere else. The local supermarket in Torrenieri has everything we needed. Just be aware, that familiarity is hard earned, so arrive in daylight. Cheers!!!

Heaven on earth

This apartment is situated in a typical toscana style house on one of the most beautiful hills of Toscana. The incredible 360 view ist just amazing and you feel like „heaven on earth“. The apartment is very well equipped and furnished with love. This apartment is ideal to forget the daily stress and to enjoy real life. Enjoying a glass of wine in the beautiful garden, hiking in the fields, mountainbiking or visiting the beautiful cities around Montechiari. All popular Toscana places are quite close, we stayed one week and visited Siena, Firenze, Montepulciano, Pienza, Montalcino and the amazing Bagni San Filippo. We had a very warm welcome from the hosts Angela and Alessandro who informed us about possible trips and all the things you need. We highly recommend this apartment and will come back for sure. Many thanks Angela and Alessandro for the splendid holiday we had, one which stays in our heart

A wonderful, idyllic find & welcoming hosts

'Montechiari' is a wonderful converted tuscan farmhouse at the top of a hill near Torrenieri. We couldn't have asked for a more beautiful or peaceful location and the 360 views were stunning. Angela and her husband were lovely and made us feel very welcome. It was a great location to explore the Val D'Orcia with its hill top towns and vineyards. We had everything we needed and would highly recommend this as a perfect get away. Thank you so much!

Amazing property and awesome family!

We really enjoyed our stay at Montechiari. Angela's daughter Adele met us with a smile and was very helpful, cheerful, and informative. They helped us with information on a wine tasting, restaurants, etc. Angela and her husband were very kind and happy. This place has beautiful views over the fields of Tuscany. It is in a great location outside of the touristy areas, yet only about 5 minutes to a small town for supplies/coffee/etc. It was easy to tour the towns of Montepulciano and Montalcino in about 20 minutes from here. If you would like to stay away from the busy tourist area in a beautiful place, I HIGHLY recommend staying here! We also shopped for food at a nice supermarket in a nearby town and cooked breakfasts and dinners. We can't wait to come back and share this amazing spot with more friends. Thanks Angela and Adele!

Fijn landelijk gelegen huis met 2 verhuurbare appartementen en rondom prachtig Toscaans uitzicht. Functioneel ingericht, alle voorzieningen aanwezig. Zeer gastvrij ontvangst. Lekkere plek om uit te rusten of om op pad te gaan in Toscane.

Zum Wohlfühlen

Das Haus liegt auf einem Hügel mit toller Aussicht über die Landschaft der Toskana. Die Wohnung im ersten Stock hat einen separaten Zugang. Unten befinden sich zwei weitere Wohnungen. Die Ausstattung ist gut, sehr sauber und gepflegt. Das Ambiente ist im typisch mediterran-rustikalem Stil. Zwei Schlafzimmer und zwei Bäder gibt es. Es gibt eigentlich nichts, was uns negativ aufgefallen ist. Ein paar mehr Teller und Besteck für Spülfaule wären vielleicht zu nennen, denn man muss spätestens jeden zweiten Tag spülen. Aber das ist ein Luxusproblem. Ums Haus herum gibt es einen gepflegten Garten mit mehreren Sitzgruppen und Liegen. Alles sehr liebevoll angelegt. Wegen der Größe des Gartens und der Lage rund um das Haus hat man auch trotz der beiden anderen Wohnungen seine Ruhe, wenn man diese möchte. Zwischendurch bekamen wir immer wieder Besuch von einer Schafherde die die Wiesen in den Hügeln abgrasen. Aufs Grundstück können sie aber nicht. Auch die Vermieter Angela, Alessandro und Adele sind sehr nett, sehr gastfreundlich und umgänglich. Die Verständigung klappte zwar oft nur mit Händen und Füßen aber das sorgte für allgemeine Erheiterung. Zum Einzug bekamen wir sogar einen selbst gebackenen Kuchen und eine Flasche Rotwein. Uns es wurde uns sogar eine Erstversorgung mit Milch und Saft in den Kühlschrank gestellt. In der Nähe, ca. 10 Autominuten entfernt in Torrenieri gibt es einen kleinen Supermarkt. Allerdings ist das Haus auch mit Navi nur schwer zu finden. Man sollte sich vorher eine genaue Anfahrtbeschreibung geben lassen. Alles in Allem ein Ort um die Seele baumeln lassen zu können und trotzdem mit einer guten Anbindung an viele Sehenswürdigkeiten der Toskana. Siena ist z.B. nur 45 Minuten entfernt. Montepulciano nur 20-30 Minuten. Und in Florenz ist man innerhalb von 75 Minuten.

A small piece of heaven

Montechiari was not the easiest to find since it’s away from the offical street with only a small and winding gravel road leading towards it but once you find it it is like finding a tiny and cozy paradise. Angela and her husband greeted us so lovely (with selfmade cake!) that we immediately felt at welcome and at home. The apartment itself is just perfect for spending relaxing days in Tuscany. It is very beautiful and contains everything you need, every piece of furniture fits together, creating an atmosphere of rustic luxury you often see in interior magazines. But the best thing is the amazing view into the tuscan landscape and the solitude and quietness of the apartment. Even though there are 2-3 more apartments on the property there is enough space you will feel like you’re alone there. From Montechiari it is only a 20 minute drive to the scenic town of Montalcino and maybe a 40 minute drive to Pienza and Montepulciano. But there are other nice places to discover all around and Angela and her husband have a list of tipps for you. We spend such a nice and relaxing week there and couldn’t have wished for a more beautiful apartment or more lovely hosts! We would gladly return any time. Many thanks and best wishes from Germany! Beautiful rustic Tuscan farmhouse

A beautiful farm house with 360 degree views. A warm welcome awaits at this very quiet home. Hearing the bees, birds and the occasional tractor go by. Our apartment was spotless, with fresh linens including a few flowers. Our hosts Angela, Alexendro and Adele were amazing. They were always there when we needed them. We cannot thank them enough for all of their help and kindness. One week was not enough. Peace and quiet is guaranteed. To see the stars at night without any light pollution is rare indeed. We'll certainly be returning !

Lovely house and location

I stayed in Casa della Nonna for a week in May, with a couple of friends and I must say that it was an amazing experience. We arrived there on a rented car, and even if there were some problem with the Navigator and were late for the scheduled time with the owners, Angela and her family was waiting us late night with welcome berry pie and all her kindness. Next morning we were able to find out this extraordinary place near Montalcino! One bedroom’s window had a great view over Montalcino, we had our private patio garden with view over the mount Amiata and hills of the Val d'Orcia with scenic farms. Apartments was styled in country style and was very good, and kitchen was well-equipped (but no frills for agrotourism like a dishwasher and washing machine or TV-set). In rainy evenings, we were able to kindle fire and spend a beautiful romantic evening by the “camino”. What definitely added to our stay was the fact that we could eat and drink Toscana wines outside and enjoy the beautiful Tuscan natures - garden blooming acacia and we enjoyed its fragrance. The Casa della Nonna is an oasis of calm and when you take a small walk by country road behind the house you will spot roe deers, hares and pheasant! Place is conveniently located for visiting all the small towns of southern Tuscany: Montalcino, Montepulciano, Pienza. Time to go to Siena is no more than 40 minutes too. We had a very happy and relaxing time staying Casa della Nonna and I would highly recommend it, especially in the spring.

Wonderful stay and marvellous view in the Tuscan Countryside

We were invited to a wedding nearby this place. We were very positive surprised about the flat. The appartment which we booked is very comfortable and is arranged with much love. The owners are very good and likeable hosts. They looked a few times discreet for us and checked if everything is fine for us. The appartment is in the tuscan hills and you need always a car. Should we plan our Holiday in the Tuscan we will come back!!!
